RB Salzburg have apparently made an approach for Danny Rohl.
Florian Plattenburg reporting on X
11 Jun 2026 12:04:58
Massive news, and judging by his wording on that tweet - one that could move quite quickly. I think it's probably best we move on. He done a decent enough job rallying a squad we knew wasn't good enough but has no credit in the bank now what so ever.
11 Jun 2026 12:07:30
Here we go again, queue the Gerard noise now.
11 Jun 2026 12:09:28
An absolute disaster if true. All players profiled for Rohl's style of play. Like him or not, we need to find similar manager or just don't let him go.
11 Jun 2026 12:10:57
The way we finished the season, not sure that's a bad thing.
11 Jun 2026 12:11:11
Exactly what a thought with the wording he will be away, got a feeling if he goes, the board will go for McInnes.
11 Jun 2026 12:12:11
Usual suspects will be Gerrard and McInnes that are thrown about with a sprinkling of Muscat.
11 Jun 2026 12:12:45
According to Sky Sports, Danny Rohl is only one of a number of names RB Salzburg are looking at as their next manager and no contact or talks have taken place between the clubs as of yet. ?
11 Jun 2026 12:17:26
Might not be the worst news, he was undone in the games that mattered most and record against the top 6 wasn't good enough. Obviously players have to accept part of the blame there too.
11 Jun 2026 12:17:40
Gerrard ?
McInnes ?
McKenna ?
Frank ??
Edwards. ??
11 Jun 2026 12:21:32
None of the above. ⬆️
11 Jun 2026 12:23:16
I'm begging, please don't start the Stevie G and Muscat fish!
11 Jun 2026 12:26:09
I'm pretty sure we won't be looking for any manager because Danny Rohl will remain Rangers head coach/manager. ?
11 Jun 2026 12:32:45
Ayrshire, this may have legs as there are a pile of places now starting to report this. Sounds like if it is going to happen it will be quick. Hope we get a good fee, as suspect it won't just be DR, but backroom team, plus we would need to move quickly to appoint a manager, so we could have to pay compensation to another team too.
Given that 49ers have close ties with RB teams, I don't think agreeing compensation would be an issue.
11 Jun 2026 12:33:53
It's not a disaster if Rohl leaves. I think it's a blessing. Unfortunately the guy I'd have wanted has left Motherwell already, but tbh, Gerrard or Muscat for me. Gerrard didn't get money to spend, and he did sign very well. He knew exactly what to do in terms of signing players.
11 Jun 2026 12:38:10
If Rohl does leave, then imo we need to spend more money on a higher quality of manager. Absolutely no Gerrard, knock us back twice now & no other club wants him. Only reason he won the league is he was allowed time to build a team & no other managers have been allowed that time.
McInnes is a no too, just choked the league after sitting at the top for pretty much the whole season. Muscat is having a nightmare in the CSL. Might leave cause of that.
11 Jun 2026 12:38:15
It would seem a bit strange for someone like Florian Planttenburg to put that out there if there wasn't anything to it, whether it happens or not, I'd hope it would happen soon.
11 Jun 2026 12:40:34
Sir Walter, I would've agreed with you, but the connection with Red Bull could sway this one - just a hunch!
Like you, I firmly believed AC and DR when they said that he wasn't going anywhere. However, things change and this could very well be true.
I'd prefer that we stick with DR, as we are so close to Pre-season, have transfer targets in play, and Euro qualifiers soon to be upon us. However, could be that it would suit all parties.
11 Jun 2026 12:42:22
Aye, I don't think now is the time, 6 weeks ago was.
11 Jun 2026 12:45:41
Hey Chasni, absolutely valid to want Gerrard or Muscat. It's your opinion, which I respect.
Although, surely there are other managers out there that haven't knocked us back that would be a good fit?
We've debated Gerrard returning and Muscat loads of times. imo they won't come, and tbh there are other better candidates that I believe are out there.
11 Jun 2026 12:46:55
Muscat team were docked points and lost players.
11 Jun 2026 12:52:00
I pray to the almighty that this is true. Gerrard for me. Say what you will, and you will say plenty, but he left for reasons every single one of us would (family proximity, money, ambition), and we have never been the same without him.
Rohl has never won a big game, including losing every single 'cup final' after the split, until the last day friendly. If this is true, the board have played a blinder as we will get money for a dud.
11 Jun 2026 12:55:30
I don't think it's great, especially at this point in the season. We're a week away from starting preseason. We're told that Rohl would be going nowhere and he'd be our coach next year. I would imagine that we have scouted and approached players who will fit into the profile he wants.
For us to lose him now would mean more time needed to find another manager, back room staff, different players possibly. And we're only about a month away from our European Qualifiers.
It's a no from me.
11 Jun 2026 12:58:37
SWS, Plettenberg (Sky Germany) ended his tweet by saying the clubs are in talks. So don't know where you've got that from, bud.
11 Jun 2026 12:59:04
Here's my 2 cents:
At the end of the season, I was 60% for letting Rohl go and 40% that we should keep him and back him. I was fine either way, but once the decision was made I felt we should back him.
Now, I believe Rohl and Cavanagh were honest when they spoke. I also believe things have changed since then because of Rohl's affection for RB, and he is defined as a RB style coach. He's not all the way home, but closer to home, and he still gets what he was looking for, a team to challenge for trophies.
On our side, it will appease a large portion of the fan base and bring added income into the club. It also removes that pressure of no more slip ups. Florian Plattenberg is a great journo, and rarely wrong. He's also German, and in Germany, where Rohl has been since end of season, so I expect he's more likely to be accurate than British media.
Now, the main point, I don't want Gerrard or McInnes.
I don't even know who I want but we need to be going for a manager who plays an attacking brand of football, that is work ethic heavy and a good man manager. Preferably someone who has managed teams to titles and most likely currently out of work or available for a low compo fee. Due to our striking options I'd like a manager who plays a 2 striker system as well.
Reason I don't want McInnes is as mentioned above that league was free for Hearts but they collapsed post winter window. He's also knocked us back before and I think Hearts were a horrendous watch.
Gerrard (not going to say 1 in 9) knocked us back twice, lost the dressing room at Villa, and done nothing in Saudi. He is not the answer people cling to him because he says some stuff and pumps his fist, stopped the 10 and that's it. For every successful signing there were multiple stinkers.
11 Jun 2026 12:59:43
Don't think the owners will be difficult to deal with to be honest, think they have listened to some senior x players of what's needed at Rangers and our signings this summer might show this, but the big one is the manager to implement this.
I don't know if Dr has it in his locker, although he does deserve more time. Rangers need a figurehead, but only my opinion.
11 Jun 2026 13:02:25
I'll look out my blue suit and brown brogues.
11 Jun 2026 13:07:47
DJBranger, McInnes didn't choke the league. We all saw what went down in the last few weeks of the season. Should've been Hearts title with a couple of games to go. If Rohl was to leave, then I'd say we'd be lucky to have McInnes if it happened.
11 Jun 2026 13:11:10
Ehl, obviously, if you can't say that's fair enough, but from your adventures on the 7s pitch - is this something from your opinion that's been a possibility?
11 Jun 2026 13:11:11
U up for the Hearts job. ?
11 Jun 2026 13:30:07
Good post, AyrshireMurphy.
11 Jun 2026 13:44:48
Agree, Murph. ?
11 Jun 2026 13:58:02
How can you say Gerrard didn't get any money? He was the reason we were skint after he left.
If Rohl goes I will be hugely disappointed. We need stability for a longer period of time. We can't just keep changing every couple of months. That's what's killing us.
11 Jun 2026 13:59:51
Gerrard didn't get money to spend??? Sick of this narrative. Best part of 45 million on transfers, never mind wages.
11 Jun 2026 14:15:00
Rangers have done prep. Met to English managers before Scottish Cup final.
6.5 million good return if he leaves.
11 Jun 2026 14:31:45
John - that is good money if he does leave.
AC etc aren't mugs. They will have been preparing for all scenarios.
Out of curiosity, John, what's your thoughts on dr? Apologies if you've stated and I've missed it.
11 Jun 2026 14:33:43
Seen that figure earlier. ?
11 Jun 2026 14:35:10
You've already eluded to Scott Parker, John. ?
Is the other one Steven Gerrard. ?
11 Jun 2026 14:38:55
My issue is Cavanagh, and Rangers' ambition is not matched by Rohl's ambition re Rangers.
11 Jun 2026 15:43:05
Geesadot, don't agree that he left us skint! We made at least 30mil back on just 2 players in Bassey and Aribo, both Gerrard signings.
11 Jun 2026 15:55:02
Your issue is Andrew Cavanagh, John. ?
11 Jun 2026 15:46:36
Athole from day we appointed him he is interested in using us for his means, ie return to Germany or an rb club
Athole. This is twice so far our club appears to be unstable, , he is simply a project, if he does not go now we will go thrithis again by Christmas.
If he stays we know what the press conferences will be about again
His tactics and team selection leaves a lot to be desired
11 Jun 2026 16:31:53
?? Agree, John, 100%! No Rangers manager should've survived what happened after the split in my opinion.
11 Jun 2026 16:40:28
SWS, I think he's saying the issue is Cavanagh, and Rangers have higher ambitions than Rohl does for Rangers. That's how I read it anyway.
11 Jun 2026 17:03:41
Walter, what remaking up now.
The issue is certainly not Cavanagh. He wants the manager to see out his contract, as he thinks we change too much.
11 Jun 2026 17:05:09
Ayrshire. Cavay wants best for Rangers. Rohl wants best for Rohl.
11 Jun 2026 17:48:45
Interesting John. Thank you for the candid answer.
You would think/hope AC would see this misalignment. I think the sentiment is correct, though we do need to settle on the right person and give them time.
Is DR that person? Popular opinion is turning against him, I'd say.
11 Jun 2026 17:51:10
So Rangers are second to his own ambition,
"Rangers Football Club. Do not enter unless you are ready to put yourself second - and that should be the one and only time second is good enough for you."
Walter Smith.
Enough said.
11 Jun 2026 18:12:17
Here, here, Fork!
11 Jun 2026 19:10:12
Can't disagree, Fork.
11 Jun 2026 22:27:41
How many people have applied that over the last 15 years in our club?
Scarily, probably very few.
11 Jun 2026 23:14:42
Rohl can go glad to see the back of him.
11 Jun 2026 23:32:36
SWS.
You are relentless. I wouldn't be so confident about that this time.
The journalist broke the Naderi and Skov Olsen transfers to us.
This is the strongest indication that Rohl could be away this summer.
11 Jun 2026 23:5 9:57
The money Gerrard spent was over 3 seasons though was it not? We've spent more in the last year. Not saying I'd like him back but it averages out to about 10/15mil per season he spent. He didn't have the type of funds that Martin and Rohl have had.
