Latest news from a greek journalist on James Penrice is that Rangers currently hold no interest in the player and will not be pursuing a deal.
26 May 2026 22:23:42
Do you think we will stick with and sign Meghoma as back up to Rommens as number 1 LB?
Would make sense financially in my opinion.
What you think, Ayrshire?
26 May 2026 22:31:29
I don't see it, Stig. I think Meghoma, for what we'd have to at Vs what he's worth in terms of impact, just isn't worth it in my opinion.
If you said Meghoma or Robbie Fraser, for example, I'd go get Fraser back and let him play back up to Rommens. I just think Meghoma is slack defensively, and purchase price would be too high.
Even though I posted this, I kind of view Greek journos similar to Turkish in that they are very unreliable, but could be way off.
I tend to trust more from Rangers Review than them, and I think it was a week or two ago that they claimed (think it was Joshua Barrie) we are looking at Penrice again. Obviously, that could have changed, and an update may be provided tomorrow on that.
It's going to be a long window, but I'm here for it.
26 May 2026 22:47:22
Ayrshire, I like Penrice. I think he'd be a great squad player, and him and Rommens could fight it out for the LB position.
I must say, I love this part of the year when we can speculate, guess, debate and discuss who we'd like to sign and why, and talk about the rumours we hear etc.
Some of what I hear is probably make-believe, but it's good to switch off from work and other worries and just chat and have a bit of banter with everyone.
And it's even better knowing we've got owners who are actually willing to throw money at the team to bring success and listen to the fans.
Andrew definitely seems all-in from listening to him, which has really put my mind at rest. He seems to have the best intentions, and that's something we can all relate to and get behind, mate. ?
26 May 2026 22:47:37
Would you consider Robbie Fraser as back up to Rommens?
Im sure we have a buy back clause (pretty sure posted on here when he was sold to Dunfermline).
Would help with homegrown quota for Europe also.
26 May 2026 22:58:58
Meghoma is valued around 10m so not a chance!
26 May 2026 23:01:21
Completely agree regarding AC, the way I look at it is he was bound to make a few errors coming in. We all make errors, especially when involved in something new. I always relate it to being a parent, like none of us, if we're being honest, get the hang of parenting on day 1. My daughter is 3, and I'm still making errors here and there, but that's how we learn. So with AC I believe he's learning from his mistakes, not just owning them. I think DR will do the same.
I believe we're in safe hands.
Coisty, I don't know about a buy back, and I'm not saying Fraser would be my first choice back up, but I'd prefer him to Meghoma. I don't watch much Championship football, but every time I heard anything about Fraser it was that he was performing well, some even using terms like "standout". Give me a bit and I'll have a think who I'd quite like to bring in and I'll get back to you with a name that probably wouldn't happen, like ever lol.
26 May 2026 23:02:35
Absolutely. ?
Actually, didn't want him to leave in the first place.
26 May 2026 23:08:32
Meghoma was bang average at best. I wouldn't be too happy if we signed him on a free as back up, let alone paying a sizeable fee for him.
I'd rather have half the league's 1st choice LB as a back up, as a more affordable option.
We have a 16 year old LB who is exceptional.
I hope he's training with 1st team squad over the summer. Can't remember his name, but watched him a few times playing for Scotland U19s, and he was miles the best player, similar to Alan Hutton: bombs up the park all day and good turn of pace to glide by players.
26 May 2026 23:11:44
I'd maybe take a punt on Owen Beck. Knows the league and done well in it. My big concern is he was injured the majority of this season and it was a muscular injury which required surgery.
If not Beck, then I'd probably look at a player like Doig just for a different profile to Rommens who is more comfortable delivering from deep.
26 May 2026 23:15:55
Ashton Scally 56. He's regarded as big a talent as Gilmour and Patterson, according to Rangers Review, who say that's what they've been told from "Ibrox sources".
27 May 2026 05:01:34
I'd love us to bring back Fraser. He was a very neat and tidy player who now has more first team experience.
27 May 2026 06:08:56
I'd rather take a punt on a younger player that can maybe play left or right back.
27 May 2026 06:47:18
There must be better than Meghoma out there for a lot less cash too - another one who looks like the jersey is a tad too heavy. ? Good luck to the boy, but don't see him with us longer term.
27 May 2026 06:55:18
Doig would be too expensive, and he's not going to come here and play 2nd choice LB.
Rangers wanted Beck 12 months ago and the asking price from Liverpool was about £10m. Again, he wouldn't want to play 2nd choice. That's why he's been getting loaned out for game time.
27 May 2026 07:01:26
Doig would cost you £10m plus. No chance of that.
They'll sign a left back and Penrice would be the perfect rotation for Rommens. They'll definitely be doubts over Rommens staying fit for a full season.
Would expect Scally to go on an affiliation loan for part of the season.
27 May 2026 07:07:09
Meghoma is only 19 years old. He'll have a good career ahead.
27 May 2026 07:37:19
I would not bring Meghoma back, as he looked out of place in the matches that he played. Not sure if it's because he is 19; he could not cope with the pressure of playing in front of big crowds.
If we are bringing in a back up Left Back, I would look at free agent Max Lowe as he knows the league well or sign Miguel Freckleton from St Mirren, very good young Left back who can defend and attack and knows how to score goals.
27 May 2026 07:47:09
Totally agree, my star Megoma was a decent wee player. I really liked him; plenty of room for him to develop into a top player, but unfortunately he's way out our price range.
27 May 2026 07:54:50
I will leave it to the club as they will have a broader search for players. When we discuss it on here, it is always the same handful of players whom we know. So no-one knew about Rommens, so I hope they have another LB who hasn't been mentioned so far who will fill our competition for LB, not back up, as that means Rommens can relax a bit as he will never be challenged.
btw on every position, it is unlikely I know, but I want a second player who isn't happy sitting as back up and comes here wanting seriously to be first choice. That is the only way the players on the pitch keep at it all the time.
27 May 2026 07:59:01
Rid, don't even think Brentford would sell him. His next move will probably be a Championship side.
27 May 2026 08:31:40
Would rather we got first team starters through door first in key positions, no problem with youth being back up, along with a couple of utility players who can play a few positions, all about timing for young players and taking their chance like Patterson did for us.
27 May 2026 09:23:00
Why are people saying back up to Rommens? Yes, Rommens has been great so far, but players go in and out of form. Let players fight it out and see who deserves to start.
27 May 2026 10:23:10
Davie, quite simply, because Rommens is viewed currently as the number 1 and is an asset to the club. He was vital to our attacks and, therefore, as it stands will be referred to as the number 1.
Nobody suggested that Rommens plays every game regardless of form or fitness. It feels a bit nitpicky to say why everyone is suggesting back up.
Also, it is the job of a back up player to push the recognised starter all the way or "fight it out". Chermiti was undoubtedly the Rangers' starting striker, but last season it was down to Miovski and Naderi to push him for a starting spot, making them second and third choice or back up strikers.
27 May 2026 10:44:51
Ayrshire, I agree, but I think Davie and I are saying the same thing here. But, without putting words into his mouth, I want the 'back up' player to be of a standard that they do continuously push Rommens for his spot. Yes, we can have youth in the background, but I don't see them in the main being that other player.
We have seen before the drop off from players, either knowingly through lack of competition for the jersey or just loss of form, and how that affects us. So, we need someone to come into positions when that happens.
So, 'back up' is the wrong word really, just competition more what I think is needed.
