Gentlemen, in order to distract me from the current state of our beloved football club I as trying to list all the managers we have had in the last 10 years and rank them best to worst.
I've gone for:
Philippe Clement
Giovanni van Bronckhorst
Steven Gerrard
Mark Warburton
Danny Röhl
Michael Beale
Pedro Caixinha
Russell Martin

Will be controversial, I know, but for me, if all the others had the same time and investment as Gerrard, they would have far outperformed him. As has been proven since he left he's a mediocre manager at best.

Not sure how you guys are ranking them, but No1 by a long way was Gerrard.
Inherited a mess, but year on year made us a force in Europe and won the league with an invincible season. Also built a team full of assets which we sold for mega profit. Paterson, Bassey, Aribo and Kamara.
Must have made about £50M on those lads.
Gio did well in the Europa League, but was awful in the league.
I think Rohl would have gone on to do well this season. But we'll never really know.
The rest all range from awful to mediocre.

Goram, c'mon eh. Caixinha stood in a bush after our most embarrassing European result ever, and spoke about caravans and dogs barking. Gerrard won 55 undefeated, and restored our name in Europe, yet Caixinha is above him? You clearly don't like Gerrard. Get a grip, eh! We wouldn't be in this mess if we had brought him back, let's be honest!!

The best manager is the manager that won or 1 and only title in 15 years, no matter what he has done since.
The rest are just competing for who wasn't a total failure.

I agree with John. Gio was the man we should have kept. Bottom line, we have no more room to manoeuvre. We have to give Derek a chance.

If we gave Clement, Gio (both won cups in the first months) & Rohl, maybe Warburton (Gerrard got way more money than him), they'd of achieved that same if not better than Gerrard. Everyone bar Gerrard didn't get a full season in the SPL & had no opportunity to improve year on year. Gio & Clement both done good in Europe too.
Gerrard didn't even play Bassey.
Aribo was decent under him, but excelled when Gio played him properly through the middle. Surely the credit would be Gio's or Ross Wilson for finding them.
We spent most of the money on Russell Martin & needed more than the 4 we brought in for Rohl. Thought that was recruitment's but now it's the managers' fault.

Clement, for me. If he had the £ backing, a functional structure to rely on, and could have dispatched the troublesome "leadership team", he'd have won us a couple of leagues, a couple of cups, and a deep run or two into Europa imo.

Just to throw this in, guys Michael Beale has the highest percentage win record from them all. 🤔 For me it's Steven Gerrard, not a doubt, especially with the biggest mess he inherited, and he won the main trophy. 👍 🇬🇧

Nah, I went fishing and caught a few bites.
Would have Gerrard somewhere in the middle of the list, but I do believe most, with the same level of time and investment, would have won more than Gerrard did, and let's not forget that the way the club was run at that time nearly put us into administration again.

Gerrard - has to be top due to winning the league although I do think Gio and Clement are technically better managers.
Gio - treated disgracefully imo. Team let him down with attitude/behaviour in pre-season from influential players which carried into the season he was sacked. I feel those players cost him the dressing room. Taking that squad to the Europa League final was absolutely remarkable - and that game could easily have gone either way.
Clement - a gentleman who was operating with both hands tied behind his back. I strongly feel if he had been backed and the club wasn't in turmoil throughout his tenure he'd have been a success.
I think both Gio and Clement with time and support would have been more successful than Gerrard.
Rohl - got us back into it but when the pressure was on we totally collapsed beyond belief.
Warburton - operating with a very poor squad, hard to compare him to anyone other than Caxinha due to the squad.
Beale - people throw around his winning percentage which I think wasn't a true reflection of his tenure. Dislikable character into the bargain.
Caxinha - least said about that the better.
Martin - as above x 10.

I suppose the caveat to my comment on the potential success of Gio/Clement is the fact that I also think Gerrard would have won the league the season he left us, had he stayed.

No way should Gio have stayed. The football under him was just as bad as it was under Martin and now McInnes in the league.
