We need to get shot of Diomande and Raskin n get as much money as possible for both. There is a severe lack of creativity in the squad and has been for a long time. Raskin looked capable on that no8 type role when Ferguson was in temporary charge. I don't really know who we could realistically go for to fill that role now.
Maybe the answer is already there in the squad if we gave em a crack at that position but I can't see it. The lad Just from Well could've done a job for us there a reckon. Anyone any ideas just for talking sake?

Can't see us getting much for Dio. The fact that you're saying get shot of (which I don't disagree) indicates we're not going to get much. Dio is a very frustrating player, as I think he's a good player who confines to offer less than he should.

Dado, Diomande is in Istanbul for a medical with Corum FK. Deal said to be £4.5m. A slight profit on what we paid. Corum keen to get him in for their first league game on Friday, so think this will move quickly.

I don't know if it's true, but the figure I've seen for Dio is 4m. If true, then that would represent a loss on him.
I've always felt that he was nowhere near as good as some on here made out.
Diomonde can be filed under the exaggerated worth to Rangers alongside the likes of Hagi, Kent, Yilmaz and many more, who came at a price, and who left leaving a deficit. Another flop!

Sunshine, Dio showed class in flashes. There is a player in there, but he doesn't show any consistency and can be erratic in tackles. We do need better, but can we truly afford the cash required for a serious major upgrade? Our team has lacked real creativity for years now, and, like most fans, we know it needs addressed.

Where you seeing that, Sunshine? All reports I have read are saying £4.5m - £4.8m. Both would represent a slight profit. There's not a great deal between your reported fee of £4m and £4.5m - £4.8m, with our original purchase fee being somewhere in the middle. So, not all the doom and gloom of another player we made a loss on and leaving a deficit.
Getting roughly what we paid for a player who has been inconsistent and not lived up to expectations is a good deal in my book. Frees up funds to reinvest this window.
We're all going on reports until something is confirmed, so I guess time will tell.

Even at £4.8m, that's my point, he's not going for a big fee, at best, we likely break even.
I agree, Tav, he's not as bad as people have made out, it's just really frustrating that he doesn't influence a game enough. He seems happy to float plunder the radar.

Not going for much and not going for a big fee are two different things. We were never going to get a big fee for a player who floats under the radar. Good business if we make the deal.

We have had him playing for 2 years + now though. Way the accounts work as well is that half of his value will still be on books, so we have made probably around £2.5m 'profit' which goes straight into overall turnover to be spent on transfers should we choose.

We can live without Diomande. I'd be happy to break even and reinvest. Getting our money back is just fine by me. Better than offloading to get off the books which has been the norm x Good deal.

It seems the majority of us share the same views on Diomande, inconsistent, has potential but hasn't lived up to it, floats under the radar. Do we continue to moan about his performances for another two years? Or be happy we got our money back to reinvest in a more impactful player? I guess the third option is to sell him and still not be happy we didn't get a big fee.
Given our views on Diomande, how can we complain about not getting a big fee for him?
Personally I'm hoping this deal is concluded this week.

It's all well and good lambasting the club, managers, recruitment and deriding our league, but there don't appear to be 'solutions' out there from those who think the club is hurtling towards oblivion.
Have mistakes been made, YES, but let's be real. In 2 of the past 3 seasons the team has been in the thick of the title hunt only to painfully fall away. Is that a mix of an inability to cope with pressure? Management tactics? Quite probably, but it is not easy to recruit players to Rangers and the SPL. I don't think for one minute the fans would have tolerated Braga, kyzeridis or some of the Hearts recruits at the outset and I have no doubts the fans would have pelted the players as being 'not Rangers class' swiftly had success not been immediate.
The fact is that it is NOT easy as a player or manager at this club. The fans rightly have expectations of success in terms of trophies and expect us to not only challenge, but also be successful domestically and in Europe.
The board are not blameless, but if people here don't think they've put money where their mouth is, I am astonished. You may not like those players signed but AC (who admittedly is no football genius and so has tried to recruit football people to the board), has shelled multi millions to make us competitive. In the meantime we have gone through a succession of managers, from Gio to Rohl. None of whom appear to be able to satisfy fans. Very few seem to be in agreement as to who could actually make the team winners and names like Mourinho (not sure our budget would cover his salary alone) or Knutsen (who clearly prefers the stress free environment of Norwegian football) are absolute non starters.
At times this site offers a perfect window into the disharmony amongst the fanbase, and you only have to view some of the signings or failures (in terms of not getting players either signed or sold) to show that. We cannot force players to leave, or demand that clubs pay what some feel they should and equally cannot expect others to be desperate to come to the Gers because of some historical legacy. Players today want glamour, big bucks and top 5 league football, and galling though it may be to lose signings to the likes of Hull, Burnley etc is simply a fact of life (galling as that may be).
I am a lifelong fan, born in Govan and recall some magic times, which currently are sadly over the horizon. I don't believe this will change immediately, but DO believe the current owners are invested (both in terms of money, a little ego, and track records of success albeit in a business environment). The manager needs to start winning and soon, and this Thursday epitomizes this. Whilst I am baffled at some selections, like a few it is clear we have had ample opportunity to win every game so far. We also need more recruitment across all areas of the pitch (whilst trying to sell on, as profitably as possible), those deemed surplus to requirements, but the lottery is we simply don't know which players will sink or swim at Ibrox, as reputation really don't count when the whistle goes. Dio may not have been fabulous, Raskin may not be the creative answer, but equally who is to say the Dahl would be a world beater? Coming from relative obscurity in a middling Norwegian side (as let's face it I suspect the pressure he would immediately be put under at Ibrox would be as nothing he has ever experienced).
In conclusion, as I ramble away, I desperately want success across all facets of the club, and as a fan am entitled to offer options and constructive criticism if I feel it's merited, but equally will always offer my whole heart support to whatever manager, players and owners are at the the club.
For me the only way is up, and I genuinely have faith we will get there.

Should have clarified, because we've taken the remaining two years' amortisation off the £4.5m sale, as Angus rightly said, we have a current year profit of approx £2.5m. This absorbs the next two years' amortisation. So, the next two years we are £1m+ up, plus Dio's wages of, I would guess, £1m per year.

He has been a middle of the road signing. I don't think he is suited to Scottish football, but that may be completely wrong, and I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Not said he was ever a superstar or anything like that. The recruitment team have a lot to answer for.

Regardless of a profit or not, it's still extra cash to fund transfers.
Personally, I think Dio has been ok, but I don't think he has improved as we hoped, unfortunately. Probably best to move on if we are getting c£5m ish.

McNaughten, it's not up to us to come up with solutions, mate. There's people paid a hell of a lot of money to do that, that are making huge mistakes. Surely you or I could spend all the millions we spent and finish 3rd, it wouldn't be difficult, would it?
