Myself personally don't see all the Hype about Ferguson. Aye he'll give 110% every game and 200% against C*ltic but who is to say that that 200% is good enough? He never shown much at the world cup. And I've not seen much of him at Bologna to give much of an opinion at club level.

I do want him signed its written in the stars.

But is there better out there for similar money?

He was Scotland's best player at the World Cup. By far outplaying McGinn and McTominay. He's a very good player. Only reason I don't want him is the fee. I feel 17 mill could get 3 cracking players with that.

06 Jul 2026 13:01:37
Never shown much at the World Cup? That's an unbelievable take. He was Scotland's best player in all 3 games, like Peterpan said, outperforming the so-called higher profile players. 17m is, for me, a little too high, but that's the premium you pay when buying players from Italy.

06 Jul 2026 13:05:05
I think the fee is too steep. I agree, Peterpanloyal, but like you I think Lewis Ferguson would be a terrific signing for us and we can build a team around him. ? ??

06 Jul 2026 13:08:32
Scotland were stinking at the World Cup, being the best player doesn't really say much. I'll of course support him if we sign him, but I've no idea what he plays like in Italy as I don't watch Italian football.

06 Jul 2026 13:09:11
Fee is too high, but it is what it is - he would likely be our captain and with us for several years, and if we win the league and get into the Champions League, it would be money well spent - we paid almost nothing for Raskin, so if we get enough to buy Ferguson with that, why not - CM a key position for us, and he would definitely make us a better team and bring some dig and leadership.

??

06 Jul 2026 13:35:19
Ayrshire need to disagree with you there, mate. He was Scotland's stand out performer at the World Cup.

06 Jul 2026 13:37:09
Most if not all players of his stature or quality or price tag ain't coming to play in Scotland. We struggle to convince guys like Dan Neil. The only reason it's even being talked about is because he's a Rangers fan. Any 15m player challenging for CL in Serie A isn't even looking twice at our league, and same goes for most leagues like that.

06 Jul 2026 13:59:57
Saying he was Scotland's best player at the World Cup doesn't go for much, though, as nearly the full squad underperformed.

06 Jul 2026 14:08:20
Imagine using he was Scotland's best player at World Cup as reason to sign him. The mascot was our 2nd best player and we don't have one. ?

06 Jul 2026 14:26:18
Our best player at World Cup and played his position well, he can play further up park and will have bigger stats on assists and goals right enough, DM played him all over Aberdeen midfield, worry about that if we sign him right enough.

06 Jul 2026 14:27:46
The fee is high for a reason. He is a good player with interest in Italy and beyond, and somebody will be only too willing to pay that premium. Bologna would probably prefer not to sell to a league rival, though. The onus this window is to restructure our leadership group, and I don't think we are in a position to try doing that on the cheap. If we want someone to drive on others, I think Lewis Ferguson ticks the box of the player we can finally build the team around whose heart beats Rangers.

If you want a trading model signing, team him up with the Serbian lad Vanja Dragojevic and let Lewis drive his development, thus paying huge dividends down the line and hopefully bringing back the silverware in the process. Lewis Ferguson would be a bold and inspired signing and bring back an edge that has been missing for too long.

06 Jul 2026 14:32:40
Strom, he played well though. If other members of the squad performed like him they just might have qualified. ?

I think, if you're going to spend that kind of money, it has to be for someone who will really make a difference and take you to the next level, and it has to be someone who contributes in the business end of the pitch with goals and assists.

Lewis Ferguson is a good player, no doubt, but not someone we should be smashing our transfer record for, in my opinion. Being the most consistent Scotland player in a terribly performing team shouldn't be the standard either.

06 Jul 2026 14:52:36
Yeah, Livingston had a best player as well, but they got relegated and were rank rotten, just like Scotland. Being best of a bad bunch isn't something to shout about.

06 Jul 2026 15:01:17
He was good though and we didn't not qualify from the groups because he performed poorly.

06 Jul 2026 15:02:27
Would take Ferguson, but for £17m I'd be getting Cerny, Dahl and Watt for that money. Getting all 4 would be unbelievable! ?

06 Jul 2026 15:42:04
But perhaps he was able to play well as we were defending all the time. Perhaps if we set up to attack more we would have got more out of McTominay and McGinn.

I agree, I would rather that we get 3 x £6M players for the same money and improve more of the squad.

I also can't see why he would want to come back to Scotland if he has the opportunity to play for Juventus or Milan or in the EPL.

Robertson signed for Spurs despite always saying that he wanted to sign for Celtic later in his career. Being a fan only counts for so much when you want to play at the top level. It is like Stevie G all over again with all the excuses for why he couldn't come (tax man, Thelwell etc). This time it is why he would come (a fan, his wife wants home). Think the same result will be evident at end of day.

06 Jul 2026 15:49:50
In the forums for a long time we've talked about wanting "Rangers Men" at the club. If we sign Ferguson for £17mil and he becomes our captain, we win the league and get the Champions League money. The £17mil will be worth every penny.

06 Jul 2026 16:03:16
I don't think there is any guarantee that we would win the league if we sign Ferguson. I think you win the league as the result of being a team, not one man getting you there, or football would be 1v1.

06 Jul 2026 16:12:29
Orange tinted? You say Scotland under performed? I think the word you were looking for was crap.

06 Jul 2026 16:19:16
As a club, there was a big outcry at £8m we paid for Chermiti. But £17m is a massive fee to sign Ferguson if the media reports are correct.
Got to agree we could sign at least 2/3 players with that sum of money.

06 Jul 2026 16:59:10
Do we have alternative targets if this one goes belly up? We always seem to have a saga every summer that drags on for the full transfer window. Looks like this could be the one for this year.

06 Jul 2026 16:48:04
Do we actually know the feeling, or is it just speculation?

06 Jul 2026 19:14:32
I want him signed, but wouldn't pay over 10 million, so we wouldn't get him.

06 Jul 2026 19:44:00
If being the best player in a Scotland squad is what you are aiming for, then definitely downgrading.
