Pleased to hear Liverpool were bidding 110m for Diomande, until I realised it was Yan Diomande ?
05 Jun 2026 08:51:55
Yes, the same Yan Diomande who was once on trial with us scored 7 goals in 4 games, and we offered him pennies to sign. He then signed a 7k contract at Leganes before moving to Leipzig. What a balls up.
05 Jun 2026 09:18:27
True Ayrshire, we've let a few slip through our grasp.
05 Jun 2026 10:01:21
He was 16 years old at the time and had never played a professional game of football in his life, and some are moaning we never offered him £thousands a week to sign!
05 Jun 2026 10:14:49
Not moaning about it MPH, simply stating some facts about it. If he had come to us, we most likely wouldn't have given him a chance, and it was a gamble we weren't willing to take, and there was no guarantee of his development at our club anyway.
Just saying, with hindsight, it's a balls up which can't really be argued when he's about to move for 110m.
05 Jun 2026 10:32:22
We can't be paying 7g to a 16 year old, let's get real. So it wasn't a feck up at all.
05 Jun 2026 10:44:35
Yet we offered King an inflated deal! But won't offer this highly rated youngster who shone on trial a decent deal, and we won't offer that cash, but Leganes will, wow!
05 Jun 2026 11:05:45
Even the player criticised his agent for being too greedy. Yes, it's a miss, but who knows if our managers would have given him a chance.
05 Jun 2026 11:09:09
I agree with Ayrshire, it's a balls up, the balls up being Leganes could see his potential, but we couldn't. The boy must have been different gravy to, firstly, score 7 goals in 4 games, then for a team like Leganes to pay 7k weekly, he must have been special, but we couldn't see that.
Pretty sure we could have got him for less, being a bigger club with more exposure.
05 Jun 2026 11:17:44
7k a week clearly worth it, but is what it is.
05 Jun 2026 11:46:44
Why do we get so upset about these things? It's not a balls up. Obviously, Rangers, for whatever reason, thought it's too high a risk. Now, many players do we hang on to, hoping they come good. Some teams, with more money and better pathways, might chance it.
Rangers obviously thought better of it. Ok, a missed opportunity, but it's not a balls up. A balls up is SG not allowing Morelos to go when we had the opportunity.
05 Jun 2026 13:02:56
It's only a balls up because what he has gone on and done so far, the chances of that happening with Rangers are very slim, as we don't give youngsters a chance, so it would probably not have worked.
05 Jun 2026 13:23:47
Sure, I read an interview that he wanted to sign with us, but his agent at the time asked for stupid money and signing on fee that made us withdraw our offer.
05 Jun 2026 13:34:37
Remember Alex Lowry?
Lots of us thought he was a talent.
And we gave him £6K a week at 18 years old.
Now plying his trade in League 1 in England.
If everybody that rocked up with talent at a young age was given a decent wage, we would be back to 2012 all over again.
05 Jun 2026 14:33:40
Geesa, who is upset? It's just a thread with people giving opinions. Leganes doesn't have more money or better pathways either. They took a chance.
Exactly, mph gave Lowry 6k, but knocked back Diomande for a grand more; typical of the way our club has been run. That's my whole point.
05 Jun 2026 14:48:48
So how would we have known at that age BB$, which one, if any, would have worked out. It's a guessing game and someone has to decide if it's worth the risk or not.
05 Jun 2026 14:51:45
Naebody is upset, just quite rightly saying we missed out saying as he's worth over 100m now???
05 Jun 2026 14:53:18
Is 7k really a risk for us? Spanish clubs outside of the big ones aren't exactly cash rich, but Leganes took the chance. It's clear the Yan would've got a chance if he went to Leipzig after 10 games & is on his way to Liverpool after one season, so he's clearly special.
We don't give youth a chance is maybe down to the fact they aren't good enough.
There's only ever 1 or 2, rarely, that could make it, & they end up attitude problems like Lowry or leave like Gilmour because Gerrard didn't give a chance. That's been a problem with our youth setup for years & years at this point, it needs addressing. Clement gave youth a chance only for Martin to get rid of some of them.
05 Jun 2026 15:24:44
Plus, no player in Scotland is being bought for £100+ million.
It's because he is going from one top 5 league to another.
Otherwise, Chemiti would be valued more, as he's scored more.
We would have got the £20 million Leganes got.
And we've done that already with a young player in Bassey.
05 Jun 2026 17:29:41
We never let him slip, we wouldn't give him silly money at that age. It happens to players all over the world; clubs release them and they go on to have a fantastic career.
05 Jun 2026 17:50:54
Bb4, how do you know that team hasn't got better pathways than us?
05 Jun 2026 18:25:18
A don't storm, it's my opinion, mate. It was in reply to Geesa, saying teams with more money and better pathways would take a chance, was pointing out that that I don't believe Leganes have more money or better pathways, they did take a chance.
