Replying to posts further down the banter pages but Gerrard went unbeaten in the league when he stopped ten.
He installed a winning mentality. Not many teams go unbeaten in any league around the world.

He also lost to the 5th and 7th best league sides in the domestic cups when he should really have won the treble with that "winning mentality" he installed. ?♂️

So we're only paying attention to Gerrard's final season then, and ignoring the bin fire Celtic were that season. Ignoring the COVID struck sides and our minimally hit side in comparison. Yes, one Old Firm we did have a few out, but in the whole our squad avoided it.
Yes Gerrard set standards and a winning mentality. Took him 3 years though to win the league, whilst bottling two free cups with Celtic out of both leading to St Johnstone winning both.
I appreciate Gerrard winning the 10 and was gutted when he left, but I'm also willing to look at the facts that he was given the longest of recent managers and failed at many things, plus a number of factors went in our favour that season. Had it not been for COVID, he would have been sacked end of season 2, and he regularly struggled post winter break and against low blocks.
He found a style that worked eventually, and built a squad that had quality and work ethic.
Whilst some may not like to hear it, the reality is the 55 season is an outlier. It's the odd one out of the last 15. That includes Gerrard's previous 2, and every manager since and before that. We need a clear plan and consistency. That's the only thing we haven't tried since that outlier of a season.
Rohl has had one window and brought in 4 players. 1 of which is one of my favourite players of recent times so far from what I've seen of him (Rommens). I trust Rohl to get it right with the backing of AC next season, and I'm not fussed about Scotsmen or Rangers men. Just get players with the right character and mentality.

Lost both cup games to last-minute goals - St Mirren in LC after equalising moments before, and in the SC, Zander Clark's last-gasp equaliser for St Johnstone, taking the tie into extra time and penalties.
The point I'm making is the team had a bit of grit and fight, and you could always see green shoots in Gerrard's teams. Who can forget that LC final against them when we literally played them off the park, only to lose to a Frank Conner assisted offside goal.
That day, a combination of astonishing misses by Morelos, including a missed pen, and an unbelievable display by Fraser Forster stopped us winning the cup that year. Fine margins, right enough.
No green shoots for me with Rohl's management and tactics, and imo he has nowhere near the presence and influence that Gerrard had in Scotland.

It's about how you look at it, though, Seeker. In that case, Rohl only lost in the cup to Celtic on penalties because the players couldn't find the net. We only got knocked out the other because Aasgaard got sent off and the team tired in extra time.
We're only out of the league because of a last minute goal against Motherwell and failing to take chances in other games.
Nobody saw green shoots in season 2 of Gerrard. There is even an interview with Halliday from that time, saying the players are going to get the manager sacked, and plenty posts on socials asking for his head after losing to Hamilton. So let's not rewrite history.

Was going to say the same thing about fine margins in Cup, Ayrshire. Can't use them for one but not the other. We totally outplayed them, but just couldn't finish the job, and decisions went against us.
What about in the semi where Butland got kicked in the head, and nothing was done. All fine margins. Winning more points than anyone else is surely green shoots of recovery unless u just don't want to see them.
08 May 2026 16:48:56
That's not really true though, Ayrshire, is it? It was still a possibility to win the league after Motherwell, but we bottled it again against Hearts.
08 May 2026 16:59:25
Starting to think we should scrap 55 and forget it happened and just say Gerrard was a total failure.
Will make everyone happy and we won't need to argue over it anymore.
And we can just imagine Celtic is actually
Going for what would that be 15 titles in a row?
08 May 2026 17:04:14
BB4, but is that Rohl's fault? He knows what needs changed. We aren't willing to give him one decent window. Do you think Gerrard would have won the league this year with the crop of players we have?
08 May 2026 17:52:23
Geesa, who said it was? I'm not calling for Gerrard back either, so what has that got to do with my post? He's going to be here whether some like it or not. Personally I'm not over the moon with him tbh, but I'd never call for any manager, no matter who they are, to be sacked, especially after not having a preseason and at least 2/3 windows.
08 May 2026 18:44:18
We've got a manager who'll still be our manager for next season, he's called Danny Rohl. ? ??
08 May 2026 19:08:31
There is not one real fan on here who at the time would have had any problem with us concentrating all our focus on the title that year. We had not won a title for 9 years and it was a huge thing to do. I am not necessarily in favour of bringing Gerrard back, but this continued criticism of him winning the only title we will have won in 15 years is out of order.
The club was a shambles on and off the field when he took over, and though it took time, he fulfilled the remit set by Dave King, win the title and restore our reputation in Europe. Something else that this team of imposters has tarnished this season as we are back to the same standard of player that Pedro and Murty left.

Not at all, Stig. I think all (bar one or two) totally appreciate what SG did, but on the other hand, it's also annoying all the 'get rid of Rohl and bring back SG' because he's not done what he did, along with some pretty hazy memories and comparisons, forgetting any negatives. How about just thanks for what he did, and let's get behind our manager.
08 May 2026 20:49:51
Coops, it will go pear shaped quickly if we don't do something on Sunday. The knives will be out for him.
08 May 2026 21:24:59
SG? He's knocked us back twice now. He had his reasons, which I think we can all agree on. The landscape at Rangers has changed now, and if offered the job again, the current situation with the set up might be more appealing. If the board had backed him after Terry Munro, he wouldn't have gone to AV.
But, how many times do you get knocked back? DR has done a great job, but when we needed wins, it's fallen apart. If DR decides to go, I'd take SG. Best player of his generation, got an eye for a player, and young talent would want to play for him. P.S. SG gets the club.
08 May 2026 22:03:45
Stig, that's not really a constructive conversation now is it? You had a go about labels being thrown about, assumptions being made, and now because criticism or fairness and truth in my eyes is applied to SG's era, it should be ignored. I'm sure I wrote I appreciate what he did, but I'm not going to re-write history. He struggled massively for two seasons, winning nothing. Fact. He dropped two easily winnable cups, with Celtic already eliminated. Fact. The league title was important, and he won it undefeated.
Fact. Celtic were a mess that season. Fact. We had very little COVID outbreaks. Fact. Like, I don't see what the issue is.
I'm merely applying the same logic to two coaches, one who fans want back, that's knocked us back twice and jumped because he didn't get the finances he wanted to spend after 3 years, which is fair, and a guy who's had one window and, to me, has the right ideas and needs the right tools now.
