As most of today was the topic of goalkeepers on here ie.charles, ernst,
seimen etc regarding how good these highly rated goalkeeper's were not only good shot stoppers, but superb with the ball at their feet, it got me thinking of our former dutch keeper ronald wattereus ?I think he's easily the best Rangers goalkeeper i've ever seen, with the ball at his feet ?He was absolutely superb ? Thoughts ?

02 Apr 2026 20:32:15
He was vastly underrated SWS. Klos my favorite Rangers goalkeeper. Not good with ball at his feet though.

02 Apr 2026 20:52:53
Kilos ahead of Goram for u, Aphe? Goram was better than Seaman, Schmeichel, Nigel, whatever his name was at Leeds. He was world class, mate.

02 Apr 2026 21:02:36
Stevie, unfortunately, I was not a follower of Rangers when Goram was playing, so I cannot say he is in my thinking.

02 Apr 2026 21:11:13
Andy Goram, the best Rangers goalie I've seen, followed by Alan McGregor.
But as for the best, no contest for me, Andy Goram.

02 Apr 2026 21:30:55
Co, u also need to include Woods in Rangers best goalies imo.

02 Apr 2026 21:42:13
I did say favourite not best.

02 Apr 2026 21:46:08
Nobody, absolutely nobody, comes even close to Andy Goram. Best Rangers keeper of all time by a country mile.

02 Apr 2026 21:46:29
Agree, John.
When we signed Goram to replace Woods, at the time, as a young lad, I was gutted.
Woods should be in the conversation also.

02 Apr 2026 21:50:05
Woods went 20 hours without conceding a goal for Rangers, which was a record at the time, most definitely should get a mention.

02 Apr 2026 21:51:39
The 3 greatest Rangers goalkeepers I've ever seen were 1. Andy 'the goalie' Goram, 2. Chris Woods and 3. Allan McGregor. ? ?? Goram for me was just another level. ? An absolutely outstanding goalkeeper. ? ??

02 Apr 2026 22:01:47
Aphe, quite right not to include the goalie if u didn't see him.

I'd urge u to go watch his video on YouTube. Simply called the goalie.

Please watch it, mate, u will be in awe.

02 Apr 2026 22:10:40
I'll always remember the save he made from Van Hijdink who hit a volley and the goalie somehow saved it.

02 Apr 2026 22:13:19
A lot of kids did not see the goalie, so yes, that video is worth watching.

02 Apr 2026 22:26:48
Woods
Goram
Greegsy

Honestly couldn't split them,

Woods was amazing when I was growing up watching the Gers.
Goram was amazing.
Allan McGregor amazing.

All 3 absolute legends for me and will take some keeper to fill any of their boots going forward.

02 Apr 2026 22:29:14
Andy Goram, aka the goalie, if I remember correctly, his first season he had a bit of a mare, but think he was outstanding at Elland Road against Leeds in 92/93 and that was the making of him, what a great goalkeeper he was.

02 Apr 2026 22:49:54
Had a mate against Hibs, I think we lost 2-1.

After that he started to perform.

Believe he had chat with his old coach and pal Hodgkinsom and he helped get him through the rough patch and back to himself.

He was well on form before 92/93 European campaign.

02 Apr 2026 22:50:11
Goram far and away the best goalie. Never mind retiring numbers, they should retire the word goalie after him. Even after he was way past his best and his knees were gubbed, he was still good enough to sign and play for Man Utd. Woods, Klos and Greegs can all battle it out for runner up spot.

02 Apr 2026 23:12:42
No contest, Andy Goram number 1, in every sense of the word.
Chris Woods closest to him, then Stefan Klos. Must say I also really liked Ronald Wattereus during his brief spell at Rangers.

02 Apr 2026 23:20:14
We've always been blessed with top goalies, y top 3 would be Goram, shagger, Klos.

02 Apr 2026 23:22:32
In fact, did Hodgkinson not come in and join Rangers as Goram's coach, and that's what helped him through his rough patch. He'd been with him since Oldham, if I remember right.

03 Apr 2026 00:18:38
Goram is heads and shoulders above anyone; he's up there with Casillas and Buffon as best I've ever seen.

Better than Schmeichel d va Der sat better than Cech.

Maybe not better than Courtois, tbh he's a beast of a keeper.

Better than Kahn.

If Goram didn't drink n all his carry on he'd have been in Premiership at the time and been rated as best in the league.

Sean couldn't strap his gloves.

03 Apr 2026 06:11:33
Stevie, how would u remember 92/93 were u not about 3 or 4. ??

03 Apr 2026 06:52:18
Think we can all agree on this, we've had some smashing goalkeepers.

03 Apr 2026 07:37:55
Like one of the other posters stated, I was also gutted as a boy when we sold Chris Woods to Sheff Wednesday. ☹️ When we then signed Andy Goram from Hibs as Woods' replacement, I knew we were getting a good goalie but just never visualised how good. ?? We sold the superb England no.1 Chris Woods to Sheff Wednesday for £1.2million and bought the Scotland no.1 Andy Goram for just short of £1million and got an even better keeper than Woods and banked a small profit of around 200k, into the bargain, and the rest is history, my friends.

? In my time of watching the superb Andy Goram, I'd sum it up like this, ie. he's the best goalie in British football imo, and at the time only Peter Schmeichel comes close to 'the goalie' for me. ??? I can pay the late great Andy 'the goalie' Goram no higher compliment. ? An outstanding goalkeeper/the greatest. ???

03 Apr 2026 07:39:54
Goram was all the more remarkable given his height being under 6 foot. Read an interesting article for short keepers on the impact it has on them physically, and how they have to make up for it more with their positioning and leg work and confidence coming for crosses and handling etc. Despite his shorter stature, he was head and shoulders the rest.

03 Apr 2026 08:48:37
Goran then Woods for me, very close 2nd, loved Woods.

Goram was not better than Peter Schmeical. He wasn't better than Czech either, that's crazy talk. I loved Andy Goram too. Let's not have the heart rule the head here.

03 Apr 2026 08:58:42
I was far too young and can only remember Peter McCloy at the end of his career. I think it was Nicky Walker for a short time that took over from him.
As I saw very little of Peter McCloy, I started wondering how he was as a goalkeeper, as none of the posters that would have seen him really mentioned him.

Can anyone vouch for where he would be in the grand scheme of things and how he was as a Rangers goalkeeper?
John, you would have seen Peter McCloy, maybe you could vouch for how he was as a Rangers goalkeeper?

03 Apr 2026 09:41:28
McCloy was a Rangers great and would be in the top 5 easily.

03 Apr 2026 10:28:00
Storm, is it crazy talk when it comes from Laudrup, who played with both? And the likes of Gazza, who played with and against the best in the world?

03 Apr 2026 10:33:12
I've mentioned McCloy a gd few times, great keeper who used to put snow on the ball when he kicked it out.

03 Apr 2026 12:48:54
In my opinion, Andy Goram was better than the keepers you have mentioned, Storm. That's my hand on heart honest opinion. ???

03 Apr 2026 13:57:15
Fork, 92/93 season I was 7, that was my favourite Rangers video growing up. We had all the players' own videos and all the league winning videos.

92/93 had No No Limit as the theme song through it as it showed u the highlights.

Can't remember the name they chose for that video, but remember 7 in a row was 7th heaven.

Watched the videos over and over and over, mate, along with players' individual videos, I've got a good knowledge of those days from all that mate.
