Well fellow bears we have the announcement from our owner/chairman andrew cavanagh today, that we were speculating on from last week when the season ticket renewals were postponed until this week ?No sporting director will be appointed at this moment in time and a fresh share issue to the tune of £16million will be out there immediately and our season ticket renewals will have an increase of 6.5%?Cavanagh very happy with Danny Rohl and he will be backed to the tune of a £16million budget this summer ?I think Danny Rohl will take us to where we all want us to be and i'm delighted he's our manager/head coach ?Our club is absolutely on the right track to again become the premier club in Scottish football ???Cavanagh has only just started ?
25 Mar 2026 18:58:57
Walter, where does he say Rohl will be backed to tune of 16 million.
25 Mar 2026 19:00:52
Can't fault a single word of his statement, not one.
25 Mar 2026 19:16:04
It's a valid question. Cavanagh talks about an investment in the first team, and things that are being done to allow that to happen, including a £16million share issue, but he doesn't say that all that money, or that only that money, will be invested.
25 Mar 2026 19:16:12
Sir Walter hea right though. He doesn't say anything about 16mill transfer money. Some were stating on here we would only have 4 mill to spend this season. Spent 10 times that.
25 Mar 2026 19:21:47
He states acquisition of players and other things, and, of course, the budget could be £16million or slightly less or even slightly more depending. ?
25 Mar 2026 19:24:43
Walter, I thought u could direct us to something we have not seen.
Can u go in and block me.
25 Mar 2026 19:25:34
Thanks, Wsl and Paul.
25 Mar 2026 19:37:23
He could be spending £30m, he's just raising £16m through share issue for transfers and other spends. That was my take.
25 Mar 2026 19:44:47
Walter, I honestly thought u had read something else.
Josh Barrie talks about Cavannagh saying Stig will remain at Ibrox.
He and Chris Jack have interviewed Cavanagh. Alloa, I think your figure will be closer to the net spend.
25 Mar 2026 20:03:07
Heard that too about Stig, happy with that move. Early days, but January window looks the most promising for some time.
Also mentioned Dan Purdy has stepped up, metaphorically speaking, which was interesting.
25 Mar 2026 20:24:37
Cavenagh did not put any figure on recruitment spending and no right-thinking chairman would. There are so many variables, like player sales, clever scouting, clever negotiating, cost cutting measures in other areas, to increase spending power on players, and much more.
Recruitment spending is highly fluid and can fluctuate wildly. He also said nothing about the budget being '£16million or slightly less or even slightly more depending' for exactly the same reasons.
Just be happy with what he did say without the usual craving for embellishment.
25 Mar 2026 20:43:10
Thorntonsuite, great post! You have so elegantly echoed what I have articulated over the last week.
25 Mar 2026 21:07:03
Jeezo, talk about getting your knickers in a twist.
25 Mar 2026 21:39:02
I read an article online that looked at UEFA rules and spend. It says we have headroom within those rules of 25m. Doesn't say we will spend that though.
25 Mar 2026 22:51:47
I expect us to spend 20-30m in the summer.
I also expect us to bring in over 20m in fees from 2 top player sales.
26 Mar 2026 06:10:58
Like you, Stevie G, I think we'll likely sell two players minimum ie. Fernandez, Raskin and possibly Dio and Chermiti. ? We're allegedly interested in Dundee centre half Luke Graham and one or two Motherwell players. ? We'll have Findlay Curtis back from his loan spell at Kilmarnock and I hope to god we can keep Mikey Moore for another season on loan ? I definitely think there's room for both Moore and Curtis in our Rangers team, and that gives us superb attacking options.
? ??
26 Mar 2026 07:09:16
Don't think we will sell 4 key players, SWS, that would be crazy and unsettling.
26 Mar 2026 07:25:06
Money talks and we're geared for player trading geesadodothat, so I wouldn't rule selling anyone out mate. ?
26 Mar 2026 08:44:05
The main thing for me was the openness and simplicity of what Mr Cavanagh said, he is definitely here for the duration, and is totally focussed on how he wants us to move forward, in my opinion, no hidden agenda, which is in itself good to see.
26 Mar 2026 08:47:34
Coops, yeah mate. I'd say £30m spend, but we may even make a profit ivwr the summer, depending who we sell.
I'd expect Raskin and Diomande to move on.
Don't think Chermiti will leave this summer. Fernandez is 50/50, really, isn't it?
26 Mar 2026 09:16:50
Seen something on FB saying Rangers will demand 40 million euros for Fernandez as there are a few big hitters looking at him, can't see us getting that though.
26 Mar 2026 09:25:30
It's all top clubs seemingly interested in Fernandez.
26 Mar 2026 10:11:28
The £16M raised through the share issue can't be spent on transfers or salaries though as it isn't revenue. It can be used towards general expenses and things like stadium refurbishment.
However I think EHL said the other day that we operated below the UEFA-allowed 70% squad cost ratio last season (transfers/wages vs.
revenue), yet we still reported a net loss within the annual accounts.
So it could be that the £16M will go towards the general expenses and allow us to spend a further portion of that 70% we didn't last season. Therefore, raising the transfer and salary budget that way.
