Yesterday's trouble was so avoidable
1. Why weren't police out in force? They should have been out in force for penalties to ensure their fans didn't do exactly what they did.
2. Players and staff- Tics RB ran from half way to broomloan, pretty sure this didn't help. Why were the staff and players allowed to stay on pitch to celebrate. Surely you usher them off and let them out to see their fans after Gers fans have vacated. This is what happened when we won league at porkhead. Yes it's sad players etc can't just celebrate at end of game but this is Old Firm we are talking about.
3. Stewards - don't get paid enough to put themselves in the line ao i get they're pretty ineffective.
4. This was brewing all throughout the game and I really don't get why it wasn't dealt with before it got out of hand. If they don't come into pitch it doesn't happen.
Why are our fans reacting like that and putting the club under further scrutiny.
5. Going forward. With the rise of the ultras is there room now for any old opposition fans in the ground. Probabaly not.
6. Celtis should also be held to account for the damage and their fans behaviours
Rangers should ban all out fans like wise.
09 Mar 2026 11:29:05.
The Union Bears need banned after yesterday.
Yesterday has probably ruined it for away fans being at Old Firm games in the future.
All this rubbish about Celtic fans "were only celebrating" is fine, but don't go on the pitch. Both sets are as bad as each other.
09 Mar 2026 11:47:11
One lot are as bad as the other. Should have turned on the sprinkler system and given them all a good soaking.
09 Mar 2026 13:08:35
Those sets of fans are as bad as each other and have ruined it for the away fans.
But watch the media and police make out like it's the fault of the Rangers fans.
Celtic fans knew fine well that if they went on the pitch, Rangers fans would react, and if Rangers fans didn't react, we would never hear the end of it and how the Celtic fans own Ibrox, etc.
09 Mar 2026 13:21:48
The root cause of this was the SFA rules, and they should be held accountable. There is a reason why both clubs had greatly reduced opposition fans in grounds, and we saw it yesterday, but the SFA 20% rule backed Rangers into a corner. In hindsight we should have refused, but we tried to comply.
The Green Brigades' posts and messages pre-kickoff implied they had something planned, not unexpected as it was a big chance for them after being shut out for so long.
I also have to ask, how is it that a group who are banned from Celtic Park were sold tickets by Celtic for an away game at Ibrox?
I just hope this stops ill-informed pundits and ex-players pining for the good old days, and they realise that the rise of the ultras culture has completely changed the landscape with regard to away fans.
09 Mar 2026 13:24:37
Love the tifos, love the noise they bring, but they need to stay at home for a few weeks.
09 Mar 2026 13:50:15
They'll be banned to the end of the season. It'll be more a token gesture, as there's nothing really to play for.
They'll be back to their usual rubbish from August again.
09 Mar 2026 13:58:57
I think the next cup games we are involved in may well be behind closed doors. Why were our fans allowed to burst in through the turnstiles with no ticket, and I get it, security tried to stop them.
Why did Rangers then not empty that part of the stand and make them all show evidence of right of entry to the stadium, and ban for life all the others who did not.
Having people in who have not paid is a) loss of revenue, b) breaching stadium safety limits, c) no accountability in being able to track down trouble makers.
09 Mar 2026 14:48:19
Broomloan Stand should have been emptied after the breach at the gates, and their fans should have had to start queuing up again, with added police/stewards at the gates. If that took till after kick off, then it would have been their own fault, nobody else. After the damage and behaviour yesterday, especially, I wouldn't allow them back in the stadium ever again, and I don't give a toss about the atmosphere after the disgraceful condition they left our stand in: smashed seats, disgusting graffiti about the 66 fans who died, the flooding after the toilet pans were all kicked to bits, as well as the nonsense on the pitch.
I'd rather give the tickets to our own fans.
09 Mar 2026 14:58:38
Bet stewards get paid minimum wage. Not sure what their job description is, but it is probably not to put their safety at risk with these idiots.
More, the club & police should have envisaged what occurred, and had better plans in place.
09 Mar 2026 16:12:18
Jasp, that's exactly the point I was making.
Police surely would instruct players and staff to be aware of the situation and the responsibility they all have. No players jumping into the crowd, get everyone off the park as soon as the game is decided. Celebrate when the opposition is out of the way, etc, especially more so if Celtic were to win.
Police should have been out on force in front of Broomloan when it went to pens. Seen them do it at Hampden often enough.
Police's plans for the match have to be questioned, and, given the 1st time they've had that many in, it's beggars belief.
Yes, both sets of fans are.
Ultimately, they are to blame, but it should and could have been avoided.
09 Mar 2026 16:33:15
It really just shows the strength in numbers.
(But let's not get political on here lol).
09 Mar 2026 17:03:21
Sorry, I just had a look in and won't be back again for a few days. But, let's be clear. This isn't the police's fault, isn't the SFA's, isn't the stewards' or the clubs'. This is all down to bampots of fans on both sides. If we had won, would we have wanted them to stop the celebrations? And not a minority, it seems, as is always the excuse. I hope this stops all away fan allocation forever, and SFA close stands for home fans where fans spilled out of.
It needs to be stopped once and for all, and if that is what it takes, it gets my vote and hopefully every decent fan's. Yes, the team on the pitch are poor, but nowhere near that embarrassment. I know when getting stick from mates it won't be the team but the fans who I get it for. Clowns, every last one of them. Rant at me all you want, btw, as I'm on a break and only on as my wife is in the Spa.
09 Mar 2026 18:11:52
Angus, good honest post.
09 Mar 2026 18:50:54
Angus, ? the fans are to blame, but that doesn't mean the police are without. Both these statements can be true.
The police should have had plans in place for managing the situation as it evolved, and I'm not sure they did or were adequate.
I am in no way condoning any of the actions by both sets of fans. The rise of wee boy ultras across all clubs in recent years is very worrying.
09 Mar 2026 19:47:41
Get back to your Mrs, you, but aye 100% agreed, bud. ??
09 Mar 2026 20:06:32
They get paid more than minimum wage.
