First day of retirement, second post of the day, so here goes-
What's everyone's thoughts on Butland, is he first choice, or does he become second choice. Gives me the fear is a busy 18 yard box.

Cbd you can't become good with your feet suddenly at his age, I think his feet were a big part of the reasons he wasn't a no1 at an epl team. If we are going to continue this playing all around the back we will be in trouble with butland, excellent shot stopper, poor with feet. Gives me the fear to mate, enjoy your retirement sir ?.

For me, if Butland rediscovers his first season form then fine. If we receive an excellent offer and we can reinvest in an identified replacement, then also fine with me as he's on a hefty wage/ staggered sign on fee.

I like butland, personally feel the criticism of him was way over the top last year, he's shown he can be a great asset to us, had some great moments, I'd keep him, few things in the back ground last year I suspect.

We heard that Butland can't play Martin's style yet he seemed to manage well enough against Panathinaikos. we aren't looking for a Messi here; the keeper needs to be able to recycle the ball to one of the CB or the sitting midfielder. he had a 78% success rate last year doing exactly the same.
he made 87 appearances in EPL (56 more than Rothwell? ) and had 21 clean sheets. decent enough showing if you ask me.

I'm not interested in he's feet. He's a good keeper I'm happy with him if we're going with him.

Angus you make that sound so easy but it isn't mate. I like big Jack's attitude but let's be honest he's honking with the ball at his feet, one game against pana doesn't change that. My thinking is he wasn't great playing out from back as it is, now it seems that it's going to be happening way more, which equates to way more mistakes. Angus I would love him to prove me wrong as I do really like him, just being honest with myself though, from what I've seen.

Angus to be honest the back 5 gave me the fear 1st half, to be able to play out from the back you need to be able to be calm in possession I felt there was a good few times i was just shout at the tv get it tae feck. Last year teams clocked butland in particular was slow getting his kicks away and got closed down often with heart in mouth stuff. It will take time for players to get used to that style but there's a time and a place to be doing it last tuesday we should've been punished by pana with our sloppy back passes. Butland looks way more comfortable shot stopping that ball playing.

Hopefully we control games enough this season better and he's not really needed other than the occasional worldy save. Which he has in his locker, those saves against Pana in first half is what Jack gives you.

Think when he made his blunders last year, it always unfortunstely seemed to be a big game? Hope he is over that and steps up,

Don't think Butland is a great keeper tbh and would look to replace him, that's said I don't think it's an urgent priority if he maintains the level of form he's providing atm.
The problem with Butland is though, his form can dip at any moment, even during games his head can go after the silliest of mistakes.

Welcome to the retirement club Billy, enjoy it as you have no doubt earned it.
Butland is a tough one to call, great shot stopper and was excellent in his first season. Obviously his form and confidence dipped last season but I hope he will come good this season. Think he will get a good run of games as other positions are clearly a priority and maybe let's see how he does playing RMs style up to January and see where we are at then.
