First time poster but regular checker of this site
Seems no one really knows who is going to be taking the managers job but seeing a lot of negativity surrounding Russell Martin.
It's a fresh start for the club regardless but from what I saw with Russell martins Southampton side was that he tried to play attacking football which was seen in the championship which is a demanding league, clearly failed in the premier league due to not wishing to change the style but in reality as a club that should be dominating games domestically is attacking football not exactly what we are looking for?
The other side of the coin would be in comparison that style wouldn't work in Europe similar to the struggles he had in the premier league.
{Ed001's Note - why do people keep saying Martin played attacking football? The Southampton fans all say his football was boring, passing backwards and sideways football. Most of them wanted him gone, even when they won promotion. In fact there was a string of arguments on their site between one guy who didn't agree and everyone else. And even his whole defence for keeping Martin was based on his assumption that whoever replaced him would be just as bad, rather than that he thought Martin was any good. Everyone was of the belief that Saints got promoted despite him, rather than because of him.}

Totally agree ed, his football is terrible, makes gio look fantastic attacking manager.
{Ed001's Note - so why do people get this impression he plays attacking football? I keep seeing it on here but never seen any sign of it when I watched Southampton under him.}

The number of times I seen Southampton trying to pkay out from the back and losing possession. What is the saying about the definition of madness. Ni matter how many times it cost them they never changed. Terrible season but aye if course Martin is a good manager. ?.
{Ed001's Note - exactly! They were terrible under him for just throwing away goals out of nothing.}

I don't want Martin anywhere near the club but some seem to think he is great. Hopefully we don't get the chance to see it.

My fear is he talks incredibly well and comes across as a real football enthusiast, let's see what happens.

I've said from day one Martins football would have us in the dreaded horseshoe for most of game.

Rosevale, wouldn't be the first time someone talked their way into a job. I think We need better.

I can't for the life of me see us changing as a club from top to bottom and starting our new phase with Russell Martin, it makes zero sense imo. If that is the case I'll get behind the guy but I'm afraid our new owners would be getting first huge decision wrong.

Don't think you can hoodwink these guys markymark. Smarter than that I reckon.

I don't want him but my gut feel is it will be, I hope I'm wrong.

When Martin's name came up for Leicester job their fans definitely didn't want him. Friend is season ticket holder at Leicester and said Southampton one of worst teams they played, reckoned 1 in every 20 passes was a forward one.

Thanks Ed and others. Was beginning to think I was watching something else when listening to people talk about his attacking football. It just isn't. It's just about "dominating the football", possession based, coming from the GK inviting pressure. No thanks, not for me.
