There’s obviously been a lot of talk recently regarding Lewis Ferguson and whether or not he’s good enough for us. I’m not going to say whether or not he would or wouldn’t be able to make it at Rangers (I’m not Gerrard, Michael Beale or Ross Wilson so luckily that responsibility doesn’t rest on my shoulders! ) . Also if there are teams in England after him then his fee may end up too steep (can see Aberdeen trying to hold out for close to £4million which probably wouldn’t be value for money for us) . However for those writing him off it may be worth considering the following: 1) He’s not yet turned 22 yet has now played virtually 4 seasons of first team football, 3 of which at the (supposed) 3rd top team in the country, you can’t buy that kind of experience. He’s Aberdeen’s best player, most of us would of said that at the start of the season too and probably would of picked him ahead of Scott Wright before we signed him yet look at how he’s performed since coming to us. He’s scored 10 goals in 41 games this season (and that’s with often being played in a deeper position as well), a better record than say Scott Arfield (I’d imagine long term that’s the similar type of position he’d play) whilst playing in a far worse team. He’s Scottish and will know Rangers inside out due to his connections so no worries about needing time to ‘settle into the Scottish game’, how often do we see good players coming from abroad taking between 6 to 12 months to get up to speed with playing in Scotland and playing for Rangers or just not making it at all (I’m sure we could all rhyme off hundreds of names. Peter Van Vosen springs to mind, looked hopeless, leaves us, gets back in the Dutch national team?!? ) . I’d also trust our coaching teams ability to be able to improve him as well. We seem to be looking much more at bringing in slightly raw talents and developing them rather than just signing ‘the finished article’.

Previously I was never really interested in us going for Ferguson but the more I look at it and consider it, depending on how much he would cost, I personally wouldn’t be against it.

More Ferguson talk🤬😠🤬😠🤬😠🤬😠🤬
Some good points made though Ger1978.👍
Still a no from me at £4 million.

2.) 24 May 2021 12:11:09
Question I ask myself about ferguson is he better than what we have and improving our team onto the next level, I doubt it at the moment. long term who knows. What I do know tho is Gerrard can see raw talent and get the best out of them. Arfield has maybe 2 more seasons in him so Ferguson could have plenty time to improve. I very much doubt gers will pay his asking price tho but may be able to sway a deal with, katic, itten, kennedy or Kelly going on loan for a season.

3.) 24 May 2021 12:46:19
Would take Ali McCann before Ferguson. Use Middleton as a make way. Pretty sure st j. Want him back. Let him learn from his hero Davis. Ticks all the boxes. Also a know a keep saying it but young Stephen Kelly deserves a chance. Just don’t see the Ferguson thing at all. Bit boring now if am honest 🤷‍♂️.

4.) 24 May 2021 13:09:08
Not sure on Ferguson. Arfield and Davis have 2 seasons left max. Jack is 29.We need fresh legs to come through and replace them. If Gerrard can develop Ferguson then probably go for him for all the reasons Ger 78 made so well. Would grudge paying the sheep £4M though.
I like McCann at St Johnstone who also would be a positive signing for us.

5.) 24 May 2021 13:56:59
I wrote about McCann two years ago got slaughtered on here.

6.) 24 May 2021 14:30:05
Let's look at this from Ferguson's place. Right now he's on about £3k a week at the sheep and plays every game. If he comes to us, as a player who can't get a sniff for Scotland never mind Rangers, he'd be on about £9-10k maximum and wouldn't be a first pick. He'd probably get 15 games in his first season. If he goes to Watford he gets a game in the Premiership, gets seen by all the managers, scouts and coaches there, and immediately doubles his earnings from anything we'd offer him. He'd also probably be closer to the Scotland squad if he moved south. I think that's where he'll be heading.

7.) 24 May 2021 16:39:12
Would be a great addition to the squad John. No doubt. Wee terrier. Kind a boy ye want to man mark a player that changes games. 👍tenacious wee clucker 👈.

8.) 24 May 2021 19:49:52
12th man NI have identified him to replace Davies. We could do worse imo.

9.) 25 May 2021 10:09:04
I think in two years he would be ideal replacement for Davies.

Interesting to see that Rangers have now suddenly refused permission for Zungu to play against Sudan🤔. Previously they had said he could which would of meant him having to isolate on return and miss the Cove Rangers Scottish cup tie. My guess was they were expecting him to be suspended for it anyway along with Patterson and Bassey due to the C.V. breaches. Now Rangers have suddenly sent an email to the SouthAfrican camp refusing permission for him to travel to Sudan. Does this mean that the outcome from yesterday’s meeting is that they actually won’t be facing any suspension? Why else would we suddenly change our minds about allowing him to play? Especially if he was going to be suspended on his return anyway?

1.) 26 Mar 2021 11:12:51
A friend of a friend of a friend told me that the Rangers CV5 were going to escape punishment after Killie and St Mirren got their points deduction voided after using the Celtic Dubai Stag Party as their evidence why they shouldn't be punished.
I've heard Rangers are using the same evidence of the many breaches of protocol by Celtic in Dubai and on their return as their reason as well.
Don't know how much truth is in that though.

2.) 26 Mar 2021 11:18:43
Does seem a bit weird if true.
If suspended he wouldn't play again this season, and would be surprised if he was here next year tbh!

3.) 26 Mar 2021 12:54:19
Any lawyers on here, Am I correct in thinking the police charged the players for breaching the C.V. rules and would something similar to the double jeopardy law mean they couldn, t be punished twice.

4.) 26 Mar 2021 14:08:20
I'm not a lawyer BB but any punishment from the SFA is a football punishment and ha snothing to do with police punishment. Regardless of what is stated above I still expect them all to receive at least 3 game bans.
However, the arrangement with Zunguis strange. Especially when we will have Davis, Kamara, Arfield, Aribo and possibly Jack available.

5.) 26 Mar 2021 14:20:11
BB44, Any lawyers on here mate? .

They charge upwards of 100 quid per hour so you will get nothing for free on here from any that do have a look at our site.

Mind you there were a couple celts posters on here a couple o years back claiming to be lawyers, what a joke that was.

6.) 26 Mar 2021 14:24:50
I'm no lawyer BB44 .

Think police charges and SFA charges could maybe be separate issues.

Sure some of our non lawyer posters have some info on your question though.

7.) 27 Mar 2021 09:00:48
Possibly don't want him going to sudan incase he brings C.V. back to the rangers camp. Perhaps it is similar to dubai in claiming C.V. doesn't exist there. Just a thought because if i had the choice i'd try to sign another player at end of his loan as i can't see anything special about him but just my opinion.

15 Feb 2021 15:28:38
Like everyone else on here this whole incident has left such a bad taste in the mouth and is so so disappointing. With everything going so well just now and with this being the week the Europa league kicks back off it’s just unbelievable and so disrespectful that any player would be so stupid as to put the club in this situation, not to mention to put themselves in the situation they will likely be in having witnessed the fallout and knowing what will happen in the long run to both Jones and Edmundson.
My guess is the club will end up suspending all the players involved for the rest of the season. Then if they show enough contrition and work hard enough over the summer and preseason they may be brought back into the fold for next season. HOWEVER, what I’m concerned about most now is that if it is Bassey and Patterson (and by all accounts it seems to be) we will now be left without any cover whatsoever for either fullback position for the rest of the season. That means one injury to either Tav or Barasic and we’re pretty screwed. And with Europe and the Scottish cup still to play for along with seeing the league through that’s a lot of important games still to be played.

1.) 15 Feb 2021 16:26:33
Tav doesn't miss many games through injury. But Jack has filled in there previously.
As for LB, could Balogun slot in if Barisic gets injured.
Problem solved. 👍.

2.) 15 Feb 2021 16:53:44
Jack Simpson can play lb seemingly.

3.) 15 Feb 2021 16:54:00
The trouble is some club will pick up a couple of decent players cheap
And we need to replace.

4.) 15 Feb 2021 16:55:40
Jack Simpson could play left back and Balogun would be better at right back.

5.) 15 Feb 2021 16:59:31
I though Jack Simpson can play left back too? Is he not left footed who has covered at left back before?

6.) 15 Feb 2021 17:51:10
Folks, there is a big difference between ‘such and such COULD play there’ and actually having properly drilled replacements who have worked on their positions all year and know their jobs inside out. Especially when our system and style of play relies so heavily on our two fullbacks. Just look at the number of goals and assists that have come from those two positions not just this year but over the last few years. Ok so neither Bassey or Patterson are yet of the quality of Tav or Barasic but I’d be a lot happier if they had been ready and available should one of them get ruled out through injury or suspension. So sorry, shoving Balugon or Simpson (who’s yet to even play a game) in doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence.

He is 23 but he’s still playing for Germany at the under 21 euro finals just now. It’s because any player who would of been eligible last year when the tournament was meant to be played has been allowed to play, even if now they are ‘over age’.

Part of the bigger issue here is the apologists who seem to think that it was ok for our ‘fans’ to 1) Illegally drink in the streets 2) vandalise areas of Glasgow that are there for everyone, not just so that our fans can throw a party 3) break memorial bench’s that now have to be paid for and replaced 4) vandalise and smash up the Celtic shop (yes it’s the Celtic shop, yes we hate them, but come on, grow up, no need to resort to that. And 5) break lock down - now you may say ‘so what’ to that one but considering so many folk haven’t been able to see family, have weddings, attend loved ones funerals, receive vital hospital care and lost loved ones all because of this situation do you think it’s fair that all those folk should of flouted the rules?
At the end of the day those of you that are sticking up for the folk in George square (or that were there themselves) have to accept that those things I’ve mentioned above are all illegal and all happened and have just ended up giving our support a bad name and given those that already don’t like us another big stick to hit us with. So no point in just shrugging your shoulders and saying ‘what’s the problem, there was nothing wrong with it’ because the fact is there was. No matter how much we all would of loved to be out celebrating.

The big worry now is this could get worse. The green brigade are already calling for their fans to ‘come out and protect’ Celtic park on the 21st after what went on yesterday. If that happens and groups of our fans turn up in response or trying to be ‘clever’ it’ll lead to full scale riots.

Don’t think he was Ed, he was born in California and played for a junior team called Irvine Strikers before signing with Orange County. Never been on our books up till this point.

{Ed001's Note - as I say I can only go on what FIFA said on their TMS. If that is wrong then I am sorry for giving duff info.}

Can I ask where you’ve heard this from? Other than the report saying that we, along with a number of other clubs are interested in him that was on ‘Ibrox News’. Not saying you are wrong, just interested in what the source is and how reliable it is?

KJA9, you started this whole thread with a post written in such a way as to suggest Helander is looking to leave. You’ve now stated (correctly) that during a general interview he mentioned he’d like to finish his career where he started, at Malmö, along with an old team mate. Way to go creating a story out of nothing! 😂. He’s only 27, long way to go before he’s looking to ‘finish his career’. No story to see here. As for who’s the better defender? Both of them have been very good this season, Helander better in the air and prob reads the game better, Balogun more pace and bit better with ball at his feet, both good in the tackle. There was a stat mentioned the other day though that said something about us not having conceded a league goal when Helander’s has been on the pitch since September, which ain’t bad.

Unfortunately Doiger there seems to be a selection of Rangers fans (I’m guessing mainly younger ones) who buy totally into this, we are Unionist / Loyalist that therefore means we have to hate everything Scottish (you know, the place that they live) They detest how Celtic fans go on about Ireland, call them plastic Irish and hate how they make everything political yet don’t see the irony in the fact that they do exactly the same. I don’t like the SNP, would never vote for them, I have no particular like for the SFA (I think them completely incompetent rather than inherently biased though) However I always have and always will support Scotland, the football team. I only care about the game, I don’t want to bring politics or any of that nonsense into it. And yes you will have ‘tartan army’ fans who hate Rangers, but then you also have tartan army fans who hate Celtic (and probably any other team other than theirs. we just happen to be the biggest team! ) You can’t just turn against your country because of individuals who’ll always just be numpties though, just ignore the haters.

We only need to win by 2 goals if all the other groups games go against us. If tonight Ukraine beat Austria or Austria beat Ukraine (as long as it’s not a draw) and Belgium beat Finland then in those groups the best a third place team can get is 3 points. Which means any win for us against Croatia would be enough.

No Davie, I’m not basing my opinion on watching one game, please try to understand the point I was making. I actually kept an eye on how he was doing on loan (as I did with Barker and Edmundson too, as well as all our younger players that are on loan) He made 21 appearances in total, scoring 3 times, not exactly a great record. The majority of his appearances were from the bench, suggesting that (although your pal may of liked him) the Sunderland manager couldn’t of considered him vital to the team. The point I was making about the play off game was that Sunderland used 16 players during the game and none of them were Jones, considering that for the last 40 mins they needed a goal and still their manager didn’t feel it was right to put him on then obviously he couldn’t of rated him that highly.
To me Jones is your typical ‘badge kisser’. Says the kind of things that fans like to hear and occasionally does something like score a bit of a worldy. However he never seems to impress his managers enough to get a regular start and constantly seems to get himself mixed up in off field nonsense. Simply he isn’t good enough as a player or professional enough as a person.

I’m sorry but Jones just ain’t and never has been good enough and will be sold this summer. I watched Sunderland’s play off game, they needed a goal or were out, Jones was on the bench, they’re manger used all of his 5 subs yet kept Jones on the bench. To me that says a lot, he wasn’t even considered good enough to help Sunderland reach the 1st division play off final (and believe me the overall standard of football in the game wasn’t that great) . Looking at his overall appearances at Sunderland, the majority of them were as a sub, couldn’t force his way into their starting eleven. We need players of a higher quality than Jones.

Rangers have now confirmed they have no interest in McBurnie (thankfully) . Load of nonsense, papers putting 2 and 2 together and getting 46. Sheffield want rid, he supports Rangers, that’s all it took for someone to come up with the story.
