Rangers enter the race for ESTAC Troyes centre-back Sankhoun Diawara (20)
02 Jul 2026 16:30:29
Galatasaray in for Manny. 17mill is Rangers asking price being reported.
02 Jul 2026 16:31:30
This would suggest to me he's Manny's replacement.
02 Jul 2026 16:36:48
Would give Rangers around 11 million clear profit.
02 Jul 2026 16:36:59
17 million is far too low. Especially with the sell on, we would have to pay.
02 Jul 2026 16:37:14
Would love more Peterpanloyal, but then I'm greedy. Realistically, making that kind of profit on a player so quickly cannot be sniffed at. Hopefully an actual bid might force the hand of some of the English clubs to go in for him.
02 Jul 2026 16:39:17
More likely Djigas replacement, left sides CB/LB.
02 Jul 2026 16:40:21
Have we ever actually sold a player to Galatasaray? Every window there is speculation they are interested in this player and that player at Rangers, but to my knowledge we've never sold anyone to them.
Think if the rumours of interest from Germany and England are true, that is a better option for him and got to hope there is more money in this deal than £17m.
02 Jul 2026 16:41:56
Surely we've got to be asking for over 20m.
02 Jul 2026 17:04:32
Peter, it wouldn't. We have to give his old club 30%, so they would get 5.1 of that and what we paid 3.5, so we would only make 8.4 profit, which is far too low for him.
02 Jul 2026 17:05:41
Inflation confuses me, Fernandez is more than a bit of a scare in the SPL where we finished third. Sounds like a crazy price to me at £17million. Likes of Carlos Cuellar and Boumsong looked flawless up here, names like Bougherra, Amoruso and Gough all spring to mind, and Fernandez doesn't sit near that kind of company, but maybe that is the going rate for this level of player nowadays. Celtic turned down £25 million for Engels. I can say with all due respect that I was glad to see the back of guys like Larsson, Nakamura, Moravcik and Collins, but Engels is not an opponent that worries me. They can replace that same as we can replace Raskin, who's apparently worthy of what seems to me to be excessive valuation of what he actually offers.
Rommens cost £3-4 million. I think I'd rather we had 5 or 6 players of that quality than 1 Raskin or Fernandez because he's actually a class act. Got fans saying we paid over the odds for Naderi at £4.5million but we're expecting 4 or 5 times that for guys who managed to finish a limp third in the SPL.
I'd be delighted if we can get it. If Forest are happy to pay £25million for Engels, I'm not actually saying it's even unrealistic. It just seems crazy and excessive for decidedly unremarkable footballers because there are better ones going for a lot less.
02 Jul 2026 17:30:53
No way, we sell for 17m. Don't see it.
02 Jul 2026 17:31:38
I don't think Fernandez was a scare at all, I thought he did quite well. The team lost the SPL, not one player, so I don't see that connection, plenty of players finish in the lower part of leagues and go for huge money.
Fernandez is worth 20 million plus imo. Mf has everything in his locker, pace being the expensive part, and, if he stays injury free, could give another club 5-10 years service.
02 Jul 2026 17:31:47
We apparently rejected 10m for Gassama in Jan. I don't think these Americans are going to sell any players on the cheap. Manny is an asset who we have on a decent contract, he only goes for a big fee imo and I don't think 17m is anywhere near what we would want.
02 Jul 2026 17:34:58
Goat boy, my understanding is 20%. Also any sell on fee is usually on the profit made, not the actual fee. ?
02 Jul 2026 17:36:45
Great post Zungu. ???
02 Jul 2026 17:38:07
20% is what percentage is due to Peterborough on any profits we make on Fernandez. We paid around 3.5 million.
02 Jul 2026 17:55:23
Thought there was a 24M bid from a Prem team?
02 Jul 2026 18:06:12
My price would be £30m.
02 Jul 2026 18:23:22
Coisty, exactly.
02 Jul 2026 18:24:27
Shouldn't be entertaining anything lower than £25m.
02 Jul 2026 18:24:32
What has Fernandez done to be worth £30m?
02 Jul 2026 18:32:09
His attributes and skill set. His physique. His fitness and stats. His goals and his potential to improve. There is no ceiling for him.
If he played in any other country he'd be worth £30-40m, so why not here?
Also, it doesn't really matter what we think, it matters the maximum we can get.
If u think he's worth £15m, why shouldn't we still try and maximise it and try and get £30m?
There's nothing wrong with overpricing players if a club is willing to pay it.
What had Chermiti done to be worth £9-12m, whatever it was? Nothing. But his attributes and potential were worth that.
02 Jul 2026 18:50:04
We have already turned down £24 million, bud, from Crystal Palace.
02 Jul 2026 18:54:53
Agreed, Stevie and 1872.
Mid 20's plus sell-on to get it done.
No need for a fire sale at Rangers.
Bassey money or he stays.
02 Jul 2026 19:13:49
Copeland boy, only seen that on here, absolutely nothing official about that.
02 Jul 2026 19:23:08
That was it, it was Crystal Palace 24M + sell on I believe.
02 Jul 2026 19:32:37
Nobody actually knows what the sell on clause is. All speculation. It's undisclosed, with neither club saying what the sell on % actually is. There's no way we would or could've known how much his value would sky-rocket in the space of a year, so I doubt very highly we would agree to a 30% sell on clause (for any player).
That's just crazy. 20 and 30% sell on clauses are for when you're buying a hot prospect who everyone knows for sure is going to make the buying team a hefty profit at some point, not for 24yr olds being bought from Peterborough, nobody has heard of, who might one day be a half decent player. We got lucky.
02 Jul 2026 19:47:38
What does it matter what he's done to deserve 30m if the club think they can get it, why wouldn't they? We paid 10m for Chermiti. What had he done? Modern football teams pay big money for data and he obviously excels in it.
You think a team cares where we finished when they are buying the player? Spurs just paid 85m for a player that got relegated. Where the team finishes is utterly meaningless in modern transfers.
02 Jul 2026 19:59:03
If the rumour is that there is a bid from Galatasaray for Fernandez, then the supposed asking price probably came from the Turkish media who are famous for making up stories that benefit their own clubs. We have a supposed offer in from Crystal Palace of £24 million, which we knocked back, so why would we be asking £17million from Galatasaray.
Also, the fact that we are looking at a left sided centre back doesn't mean Manny is going, he is right footed and could easily switch on to his more natural side, and we still need another centre back.
02 Jul 2026 20:00:12
I smell Istanbullshoite. What is it with Turkish media are they not half full of the old Turkish Delight when it comes to transfer stories. Worse than the Daily Racketeers over here. Rangers are looking for a lot more than 17m for Manny Fernandez.
Maybe they read what Bologna are after for a player we are looking at with more than a passing interest and just plucked that figure out the air for a fake headline.
02 Jul 2026 20:27:24
I want to keep him, but anything north of 20 million with a sell on we need to think about. Same with any player.
02 Jul 2026 21:35:08
The modern football recruitment system, it seems, is less about scouting player skills and ability than judging players on their data and stats. As well as fitting into a system of play.
02 Jul 2026 21:56:47
So much smoke and mirrors. £24m from Crystal Palace? I'd say unlikely, but if true then bite their hands off. Manny is strong, very quick, but still very raw.
02 Jul 2026 22:53:39
He's anything but quick, and laxadacical as hell getting back. Less said about his passing the better.
03 Jul 2026 00:18:30
Lanzarote, he will likely move to Palace after Laxroic's move to Chelsea is finalised.
He's wanted to leave him.
It's a domino effect. What happens is clubs agree in advance, then go find replacements, and normally, once the first move happens, it creates a domino effect throughout the different leagues.
03 Jul 2026 09:25:49
There was zero truth in the Crystal Palace bid story.
If it were, he would be their player already. No contact.
03 Jul 2026 08:05:22
The only mistake we made with Fernandez last season was waiting too long to play him. Look at all the European games he sat on the bench and could have made a difference; his value would have been higher. I wanted him in the team from the 1st game after we signed him.
Is he Bassey level yet? No, they will make a solid pairing for Nigeria though, lcb Bassey rcb Fernandez their correct positions,
Manny was forced to play as a lcb for us which is not his strongest position, he is a natural rcb, as the buying team will find out as his value increases at his new club once he moves.
