Is anyone else hearing we're interested in former Hibs centre half ryan porteous who's currently playing in the MLS ? Just passing on to share what i'm hearing guys ?

28 Jun 2026 21:52:27
Porteous is Scotland's best centre back imo.

He's a fantastic young centre back mate.

I'd love us to sign him based solely on his football ability.

I can totally understand and respect why others don't want him near the club.

28 Jun 2026 21:57:05
He's an animal, would not be pleased at this, tbh.

28 Jun 2026 22:01:54
I sincerely hope not, Coops.

28 Jun 2026 22:16:54
Not one I would be thrilled with to be honest, Sws.

On a slightly tangential matter, I asked customer services at Sainsbury's today if they would look into restocking Stiegl online. I had an old contract there, but I'm not sure he can help.

28 Jun 2026 22:18:41
Same as Devlin for me. There's a nastiness in them both.

28 Jun 2026 22:31:14
Porteus at Hibs was a bit of a bam, good player and clearly had a disdain for us on the park.

On the pitch though, would 100% take him and he adds a nasty streak we miss.

28 Jun 2026 22:35:07
Hope that's a winde up. He is garbage. If he can't get in Scotland squads with that defence, then must be bad.

28 Jun 2026 22:36:34
Standards again. If this is the level we are looking at, we are in trouble.

28 Jun 2026 22:47:37
We've been missing that nastiness for years, need players who are scared to let the opposition know they are there. The key part is, can Porteous and Devlin do this in a controlled manner. In my opinion, Devlin has proven he can, I'm still not sure Porteous is mature enough to play for us.

28 Jun 2026 22:48:56
Standards again? How many of the non Scottish players signed from the Championship and other leagues since the 55 season have been of a standard that is considered at least half decent?

28 Jun 2026 22:56:09
Can complain about standards all you want, but that's exactly what we lack signing players from leagues outside of Scotland who don't understand the league or club. Signings like Devlin and Porteus as that grit and fight while understanding the league and demands.

28 Jun 2026 23:14:12
Def need that dig back, Ian Ferguson John Brown type of characters, not that Devlin and Porteous are anywhere near the players they were, but dig important and it is badly needed in our side, though I think Mccrorie will add some steel. ??

28 Jun 2026 23:22:44
On the list. Concerns with character off the park, as opposed to what he'd bring on the park. Camp say he's settled in LA.

28 Jun 2026 23:23:13
Why everyone not wanting RP? He rocked the boxes, still a good age, knows the league and is Scottish, so you lot should be loving this. ?

28 Jun 2026 23:35:46
He's had an incredible season so far in the MLS.

He's playing out his skin, few MOTM too.

29 Jun 2026 00:07:27
There's a difference between nastiness and passion and aggression though. They both have a nasty streak that I wouldn't welcome. Not for me.

29 Jun 2026 01:36:07
Would never like him near our club, was a village idiot when he was at Hibs with the crowd he hung about with on their money imagine what he would be like on our money and the Glasgow world he would encounter with.

29 Jun 2026 02:15:55
"That's exactly what we lack signing players from leagues outside of Scotland who don't understand the league or club."

So what happened in the lower leagues when we failed under McCoist, McDowell, and Durrant? We had Scottish players, a Scottish captain, we signed PFA Scotland nominees: Shies, Law, Black. We signed Kyle, Daly, Sandaza, Tampelton, etc. We had a squad filled with Scottish players, or Scottish based players that had done well, and it's the worst Rangers team ever.

It failed so badly the fans didn't want us to sign players from Scotland anymore. The fans united in the idea that there was better players and value to be had abroad - Which there very often is.

Celtic's player trading model is to bring young talent from abroad, develop them here, and sell them on for profit. It has been working on and off the pitch for them for over a decade. Why is that wrong, but Rangers have it right? They're doing better than us.

29 Jun 2026 02:57:58
Rohl, there is a happy medium involved here, mate.

We need a bit of both t same with youth and experience. It's just like all walks of life, mate. A wee bit of a mixture of the best from all relevant criteria.

29 Jun 2026 06:44:49
The right amount of nasty, if combined with quality, is a good thing. It's been a good long while since we had a player that makes the opposition fans stick the lip out the way the likes of Porteous, Devlin and, dare I say, Scott Brown have done with us. I think we need a s****house or two to inject a bit of fight into things.

29 Jun 2026 08:19:48
Ryan Porteous never went to the WC cause the idiot Steve Clarke was far too loyal to far too many who were absolutely honking. I wanted Porteous when he was at Hibs. The exact type of no nonsense rubbish house we need. Hated him playing against us, but I'd love him in our team.

28 Jun 2026 09:26:04
Porteous is 27. I wouldn't class that as young.

29 Jun 2026 09:13:36
So the new criteria is nastiness, knows the league, must be Scottish or played here.
Utter rubbish.
We need a core, not a full team.
How about, skill, football IQ, athleticism, pace, power, a strong mind set to win, and that's just for starters.

Not a criteria for me. Can hoof ball, run through a brick wall, can snap someone in a tackle, must all be Scottish.

We are Rangers, not Livingston.

29 Jun 2026 09:22:09
Iron Rangers, exactly that, mate. Exactly why he didn't go.

He's got pace. Good in the air and can play on the deck pretty well too.

Decent with both feet, but not 2 footed. He's a threat at the other end too, scores a few goals here and there.

He's genuinely balling over in USA right now, like proper smashing it on the park.

His pace, though, is a major pulling point here for me.

Some need to remember he was only a young and impressionable boy who made mistakes in life. God forbid our own kids ever made a mistake with how some on here act lol.
I've made hundreds of mistakes, man. Let the lad be.

29 Jun 2026 09:57:25
Porteous would be a red card most weeks. I don't believe anyone who desecrated a memorial should be signed by Rangers. No for me.

29 Jun 2026 10:42:21
Exactly, Bunster. And found guilty of throwing a plastic tumbler at a female, culpable and reckless conduct, a fine and costs. Better just avoiding.

29 Jun 2026 12:53:23
27 is very young for a centre back.

They hit peak at 30+.

John, I accept what you're saying, mate. That's why I added the bit at the end of original post.

However, we've had players do worse than that and make our greatest ever 11 and half of fame.
