Daily Record reporting we're entering into contract talks with Nico Raskin. Anyone aware of any truth in this? He's out most valuable asset so would be ideal to extend his contract and put a clause in so we can get some guaranteed dough for him after World Cup, assuming he plays and plays well.
21 Feb 2026 10:23:14
Yeah, man, barring injury, Nico won't be here next season.
21 Feb 2026 10:58:45
He will sign a new contract to make sure the club gets top dollar for him.
21 Feb 2026 11:09:36
He has never wanted to leave and has rejected multiple offers to do so, I can tell you that factually.
He loves it here.
21 Feb 2026 12:25:33
A season in the Champions League would add millions to the squad in general. I hope we keep the likes of Nico and Fernandez for that very reason. Even a good Europa League run would do me.
I think the draw we got this year just came a season too early. A similar draw next season, and I think Danny could get us to the later rounds.
21 Feb 2026 12:35:46
There is a buy-out clause in his current deal that we're looking to increase, while, obviously, making sure the player and agent are equally compensated.
In other words, it's not necessarily a step to commit his future to the club.
21 Feb 2026 12:55:33
If his current deal is until 2028, it's a wise thing to do, but not urgent. If he gets an increase in wages, and we get an increase in his buy-out clause, it's a win for all concerned.
21 Feb 2026 12:57:26
Great post, Yoke!
21 Feb 2026 13:16:11
Looking after our asset.
21 Feb 2026 14:21:49
Hopefully the performance level goes up.
21 Feb 2026 14:38:48
He's never said he doesn't want to leave, only that he will leave on his own terms, kinda like he did in Belgium.
People need to remember his time in Belgium and realise he is not a Rangers supporter like we are.
Maybe he has a soft spot for the club going forward, but not like us. Top team comes in, he's gone or working his ticket, simple as that.
21 Feb 2026 14:39:09
And as long as we get a decent fee, I'm ok with that.
21 Feb 2026 15:42:41
Ehl, how much is the buy-out clause?
21 Feb 2026 18:02:33
Slim S, I wrote six months ago that he has a 12 million euro buyout, which we are desperate to increase.
I was shot down, many saying not true.
21 Feb 2026 18:36:14
John, you did that.
We are protecting ourselves by not giving him another contract. If we win the league and qualify for the Champions League, I'm thinking he stays; if he is not sold for far more than 12 million euros, hopefully he has a great World Cup.
21 Feb 2026 18:39:07
That's an absolute pittance for a man of his ability and credentials, John.
If we're going to keep these buy-out clauses, they need to protect the club and not help the player more than us.
My price on Raskin would be £25m.
That doesn't mean we'll get that, but the whole point of a buy-out is to ensure the club are secure in case of an attractive offer.
Other clubs have hundreds of millions in players worth £80m, for example.
21 Feb 2026 18:52:07
You did, John. I can't remember anyone saying you were wrong; maybe a few saying it was mad the club did that, as I remember saying all the power was with Raskin and his club, as he had only 6 months or so left on his deal.
21 Feb 2026 19:03:41
Sorry, by giving him another contract.
21 Feb 2026 19:14:44
Cheers, John.
Never noticed your post back then. I would hope that can be increased.
21 Feb 2026 20:45:05
Slim, I haven't personally seen it. However, rumours tend to vary between £10-12m.
21 Feb 2026 21:23:38
Would take £12m for Raskin, to be honest. Hopefully he has a good Euros and it bumps the price up, however.
22 Feb 2026 00:02:02
I respect you, EHL, and John, but I think that is a load of s***, tbf. He would have been snapped up for 12 million euro.
22 Feb 2026 01:24:19
Mentioned this a few days ago, yes, apparently talks have begun. Regardless, though, even if a new contract is signed, he may well be sold in the summer.
22 Feb 2026 01:30:45
Raskin's current valuation is 12 mill euros. That could increase if we win the league and cup. 25 mill is Bassey-level money, and Raskin is miles off his standard.
Raskin has had little success at Rangers, and consistent dips in performance and long periods of injury have held him back from achieving his true potential, which in turn has affected his valuation. Beale negotiated a 1.3 mill euros deal to get Raskin 6 months before he became a free agent in Belgium.
I think 12 mill euros is a fair price, as Rohl could use that to rebuild our midfield with 3 new young rising talents who could potentially net us bigger sale fees than Raskin. Dahl is a better midfielder than Raskin and has the potential to achieve a far higher fee than Raskin, as Dahl is a more complete midfielder than Raskin will ever be. Raskin is a very good CDM and nothing more, hence his performances improving under Rohl, where he is predominantly used as 1 of the 2 CDMs in Rohl's favourite 4231 formation, CDM in defence and pivots to CM in attack.
Even his stats for Belgium show he excels best as a CDM, as his higher performance stats predominantly show defensive midfield qualities, same as when he played in Belgium as a CDM.
If we get offered 12 mill euros in the summer, bite their hands off, as the longer Nico stays without extensions the less money we will reap on his sale. Sell him in the summer and reinvest in new talents.
Likely he will be on the bench at the World Cup for Belgium if all their key top-five league midfielders are 100% fit. If he gets selected for the World Cup, in such a prestigious competition that every country wants to win, there are always surprising non-selections by managers for various reasons.
Best of luck to the lad, both for the World Cup and wherever he ends up going after this season. Under Rohl, I think Raskin and Barron were an excellent CDM pairing, more on the defensive side, as Diomande and Chukwuani make an excellent pairing too, more on the attacking side.
22 Feb 2026 06:13:40
I think you'll find that the buyout clause will increase to anything around the £15million-£20million mark on Nico Raskin if he does sign a new, longer-term contract on a bigger salary. ? I honestly think Raskin would be happy enough to do that, and clearly loves playing for Rangers. ? ??
22 Feb 2026 06:29:22
Quite interesting that no teams took a punt at £10-£12m buy out in the winter. Would be pleased to hear if the player turned down a move and is looking to extend.
I really like Raskin and hope he stays but I don't think he's irreplaceable.
22 Feb 2026 09:06:30
When Raskin first arrived, he made it clear he sees his future in England, and I believe he even mentioned Chelsea specifically. Buyout clauses aren't normally placed in contracts, so if there is one there, the player or his agent has put it there.
If a bid from England came in, they wouldn't want a hefty price tag standing in the way of any potential move. Buyout clauses aren't simply placed there to protect the club, as someone else wrote. They are often there for the benefit of the player.
22 Feb 2026 09:33:04
Stevie, the whole point of a buyout clause is to protect the player, not the club.
Let's not forget that Raskin, for half of his contract, barely played games due to injury or being out of favour.
We woulda taken 10 mill for him and ran 1.5 years ago.
22 Feb 2026 09:58:45
We should be building our team around Raskin, making him captain and letting him play his natural game.
22 Feb 2026 12:24:30
No worries, RFC22. Simply just sharing rumours and responding to questions.
22 Feb 2026 12:43:33
If Celtic are getting offered 25m for Engles, how much will Rangers get offered for Raskin? It should be way more than 12m euros. Hopefully he has a great World Cup.
22 Feb 2026 13:10:58
Raskin did say in an interview his dream move would be Chelsea, but with the billions they squander trying to buy success, Raskin ain't ever getting a move there. Belgium or Holland are more his level.
