Hearing this afternoon that norwich city have offered james Tavernier a contract for next season with a coaching job in the offer ?Our captain is in the short term only focusing on Rangers in their fight to win the league title and Scottish cup and won't entertain any talks on his future until the season is over ? He'll sit down with his agent in the summer and decide what he's going to do beyond this season ? He's allegedly a couple of offers to weigh up as well as an offer from Rangers ?

Good. Best of luck to him.

Tav has been a great servant, but for him and us, he has to look for a move after this season ends. He prob could play a bit-part role as the backup to a younger fullback, but his time has been up, and I'd love him to go with a trophy or two as a parting gift.

I'll pack his bags.

Nah, to be fair on Tav, he's still one of our most important players after all these years. Yes, he is miles off what he used to be! Yes, his defending and positioning stink! Yes, he's one of the most unsuccessful captains in Rangers history! But even so, he's been our best signing over the last 10 years.

Take it. Take it!!

At this stage, Rangers have not made an offer. Unless Danny is fibbing.

I think that would be a great move for Tavs. He has been a legend for us during some tough years, and he has stats that will probably never be broken. Best of luck to him.

They'll read the room and decide what's best for all at the end of the season, I'd imagine.

14 Feb 2026 20:37:49
Good move for player and club. It's the correct time to part ways.

14 Feb 2026 22:14:46
It isn't Tavs' fault. He is the most unsuccessful captain that is on the previous board. Tav is a Rangers legend, and the highest scoring defender.

14 Feb 2026 22:30:44
Taxi!

14 Feb 2026 22:42:33
Regarding Tav, I don't think people appreciate how good Connor Goldson was as right centre back.

He was (under the radar) brilliant at organising the defence, moving across to a 3 to allow Tav to bomb forward at will.

It was only when Goldson got injured and was subsequently sold that Tav "lost it".

I'd argue that Rangers have never replaced Goldson in CB.

So Tav, who got together with the leadership group of players and went to the higher-ups to complain about Clement and get him sacked, is now being pursued by the guy that got sacked and that he didn't want to play for (like many managers before)? Not sure I believe he is off to Norwich.

14 Feb 2026 23:14:48
Almost as believable as Clement being desperate to hook up with Matondo again. I could see Clement giving Souttar a contract offer as being a more likely scenario. Panathinaikos in Greece are said to hold an interest in James Tavernier, so he could possibly team up with Cyriel Dessers again next season.

His goal and assist average per season since joining Rangers are 15 goals and 15 assists. Any team in the world would love an RB with those kinds of average numbers, and teams pay a fortune for players that can deliver those numbers.

Tavernier is a Rangers legend. He could have left in his prime, but his allegiance to us, considering all the changes of managers, etc., meant he stayed and extended his contract a few times, and the fact every single manager has picked him as captain speaks volumes of his qualities.

Yes, he has flaws, but so does every player at every level of football.

Newcastle made a big mistake letting him go. As we have all seen in Europe, in games against very high quality opponents, he has done the damage time and time again, from assists to goals, to penalties, to free kicks. He would have been worth a packet and could have gone on to a bigger club if Newcastle had nurtured his qualities and kept him for longer.

Pace in the Championship and the open style of football will destroy Tav, as he can't run anywhere near what he used to.

15 Feb 2026 13:04:39
100% correct, Forever, he's more likely to go to Saudi, the US or Cyprus.

15 Feb 2026 17:35:32
I think Tav has had about 3 good seasons since he arrived. I'm not even talking about the trophies when I say that, as he was badly let down by the quality around him.

All he seems to be good for now is taking pens. He's been really poor since the Europa final. I wish him all the best, but I really hope this is his last season.
