Sky reporting we have made Enquiries for Sunderland Duo Romaine Mundle and Dan Neil. can't say i have seen either of them play recently but Neil was pretty decent last year i am sure he was Captain when they were promoted.

09 Jan 2026 16:51:05
MyStar might be able to give us a good insight am sure he watches a lot of Sunderland.

09 Jan 2026 16:58:30
Don't no anything about them, any good.

09 Jan 2026 17:00:13
Liking the look of these guys, Neil is a left footer, handy to have a few of them.

09 Jan 2026 16:46:16
Polar best Sunderland cm last season, his problem this season as he has far better cm's in that team now, very good player, would be chuffed if we got him, it will be a struggle as many clubs in better leagues are interested, told he was seemingly been offered a deal from Roma, out of contact in June.

09 Jan 2026 16:46:29
If Danny Rohl rates them then they have my vote.

09 Jan 2026 17:07:06
Ive a mate who is a black cat die hard. Texted him earlier to get his thoughts, which are as follows,

Be surprised if we let Mundle go, he's quality. Dan Neil is decent, though not sure he'll set the world alight.

09 Jan 2026 17:10:25
G4 Really like Neil, best cm last season, Bellingham included, different role mind you, like Mundle always his problem is hamstring injuries, he's rapid mate and always driving forward and beaten men, likes a goal as well.

09 Jan 2026 17:12:47
hopefully, this is made up nonsense.

Neither of these 2 are of the required quality and again is us doing what has failed us so many times and shopping in the English league for players who can't get game time.

09 Jan 2026 17:16:22
Mundle is an absolute baller!

If we get that kid it's a real quality signing with bags of potential and huge valuation growth.

I would be surprised if we get him.

Shades of Aribo. But arguably much better.

09 Jan 2026 17:16:55
Sunderland fan i work with rates them both, especially Neil, he was their captain when they got promoted, and only lost the armband when Xhaka joined. he's loved in Sunderland, as he's a local boy.

09 Jan 2026 17:24:55
Bigbluejim lol clearly you've seen them play, so Roma wants Neil but Rangers wouldn't, fgs man.

09 Jan 2026 17:27:05
Dn Neil is a good player who is valued around 6 million, but heading ooc.

09 Jan 2026 17:35:33
My mate knows a Sunderland season ticket holder basically says same as mystar that Neil would be quality addition and mundle would be a coup.

09 Jan 2026 17:40:57
Let me guess Star, Neil is going to the top of the game and would walk it up here for us? He can't get game time over an ageing Xhaka and was last good in the championship when they got promoted. Hmm that sounds really familar to another midfielder you rated and where is he now?

I have nothing against the lad personally but I'm sick to death of being let down by English league signings who we end up paying good wages and they do nothing and get sold for peanuts.

So because he is linked with the amazing Roma that means he has what it takes to play for us, jesus!

09 Jan 2026 17:54:37
Dan Neil wouldn't be a loan. Read an article that several English clubs interested in Dan Neil however Sunderland would be incentivised to deal with Rangers as he's in the last 6 months of his contract and can talk to non-English clubs, Waiting 6 months, he goes for free, Selling now they make some £££ and given he's a home grown player, it works on a PSR front.

Given he's captained Sunderland through their journey to the Premier League, I think this would be a great signing.

09 Jan 2026 18:05:46
An ageing Xhaka tells me enough mate, outstanding this season bigbluejim, probably the best signing of the season, take it you don't watch EPL games? many clubs want Neil not only Roma, this will be on Rohl because he's seen him.

09 Jan 2026 18:07:11
He has only just turned 24, but you'll know better when never seen him bigbluejim ?.

09 Jan 2026 18:24:48
Star I live in England and watch plenty of EPL and Championship games but when their captain from a promotion season can't get a game because they signed an older player then it tells me he isn't that highly thought of.

You have your opinion and I have mine and they don't align.

But I'll just finish with, we have been burnt way too many times to be gambling on more signings from England who would want good wages.

09 Jan 2026 18:41:11
But you're are talking about Xhaka man, that's enough from me as well bigbluejim.
He ain't on big wages either.

09 Jan 2026 18:49:15
We've had more good players from England than bad signings.

09 Jan 2026 18:51:43
To be fair to BBJ Rothwell was going to stroll it up here and was sensational for Leeds (I wouldn't know I don't watch them) in the championship.

09 Jan 2026 18:59:07
Big Jim I think Neil's attributes are exactly what we're missing in mf. He'll sit in front back 4 break up play and be that disciplined defensive midfielder we need.
He'll help soften the blow of Barron too.

09 Jan 2026 19:03:58
Bbj you're talking complete nonsense. It's no slight being second pick to one of the best performing CMs in the league. If you had watched plenty of EPL you would know that.

09 Jan 2026 19:26:10
Xhaka is the best transfer in what sense? The whole wide world?

09 Jan 2026 19:27:03
OT If Rothwell was sensational for Leeds why didn't the sign?

09 Jan 2026 19:46:39
Correct wishy one of the best cm in the league on form keeping you out if the side ain't stopping you from being a good cm.

09 Jan 2026 20:03:50
Exactly my point OT, Neil was captain and good in the championship and is a direct comparison to Rothwell albeit younger.

Xhaka the best performing cm in the EPL, wow the delusion on here to justify a signing is unreal man. Yeah I get he is playing well for a team that is over performing and for his age too but that claim I'm talking nonsense Wishy, give it a rest.

He might not be right now Star but to join us he would want a decent wage and would use other interest as leverage.

Stevie we need goals from midfield not someone sitting protecting our defence.

09 Jan 2026 20:11:02
Does anybody think that the ageing Xhaka wouldn't walk into this Rangers team. If Neil is second best to him it doesn't make him a bad player.

09 Jan 2026 20:40:25
I said one of the best cm in that league on form, he has been outstanding this season bigbluejim.

09 Jan 2026 21:58:06
Bigbluejim Xhaka was captain at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arsenal (still gutted we sold him), is the Swiss and now Sunderland, not sure if he was at Leverkusen and is vastly experienced, helped Leverkusen win their first league title ever and has been fantastic for Sunderland. I'd say only Rice and Zubimendi are better than Xhaka atm.

Just cause the current bunch from England aren't performing doesn't mean we should avoid the market all together. Thelwell shopped the lower championship to league 1 and that was the problem. There's been many that have come to Scotland, not just us and done good.

09 Jan 2026 22:01:25
For the team he is playing for and his age I think Xhaka is having a fine season Star but it doesn't compute that Sunderland drop their captain who by your own accounts, had a great season last year as they got promoted.

I'm just stating my opinion that we should be looking at better and away from the English leagues in general but when I do this I get told I know nothing about football, never watch the game and spout nonsense.

09 Jan 2026 23:00:18
Woods, Stevens, Butcher, Roberts, Steven, Walters, Wilkins, Drinkell, Hately, Gordon, Francis. Hurlock!. yes, stay away from the English market!

09 Jan 2026 23:35:00
Bigbluejim, you clearly just don't know how good Xhaka is, only using these posts.

10 Jan 2026 02:34:32
Well you are talking nonsense as you're slagging a player for being second choice to one of the best performing CMs in the league. Xhaka has been outstanding for Sunderland this season. Anyone who's watched him this season would know that.

10 Jan 2026 07:41:45
Like there isn't another 2 midfield positions that he could play? I used Xhaka as an example due to being an ageing player who come straight in and demoted this "highly" thought of player and captain to warming the bench.

I haven't slagged the player, just stated that I don't want another clubs bench warmer from England playing for us.

East I could name many more that flopped and certainly many more recent than the ones you used, so you want to use sarcasm then at least use recent examples of success.

{Ed001's Note - they brought in a whole new team, to be fair. Even the highly rated Rigg has struggled to get minutes. Xhaka and Sadiki have been absolutely brilliant, it is no slight on a player to be behind those two.}
