My view, it's very interesting to read in papers that Koppen is leaving as his post at Rangers was downgraded.
I remember all the stick dished out to him and the board as to why he was promoted
Also I'm being told that koppen stood down for his role and was not sacked.
I'm told he is to work alongside purdy and have a full handover. Koppen has agreed to move on and will not receive a pay off but will move to another Europe club.
It's not clear how long the handover will be, which he obviously is to be plaid for.
02 Jun 2025 13:14:42
So has purdy been brought in to replace koppen after he confirmed he was leaving or was purdy always coming in.
02 Jun 2025 13:15:00
Correct on all accounts again John.
02 Jun 2025 13:27:11
In this day and age when money is the only god for some, I find it hard to believe that many non Rangers people ( people who are not born into the gers, unlike most of us who follow, follow in our father footsteps) will walk away from 2,3,or in some cases 4 year deals and not take a penny, or taking half the money they are due.
02 Jun 2025 13:30:10
Sometimes individuals are permitted to ' move on' rather than be sacked. Koppen didn't deserve the embarrassment and black mark on his cv by being sacked but. he needed to move on. Jump before pushed but treated to respect by the club.

Very good info, John.
Really difficult to judge Koppen considering the circumstances he faced. Last year was a cost cutting exercise, tasked with replacing experienced heads with majority being players for the future.
A real mixed bag over his time but I do think the signings of Barron, Cerny, Igamane, Jefte, Diomande and Nsiala are seen as positives.
I'd argue had it not been for injuries outside of our control, Cortes and Kasanwirjo would also have received pass marks.
Propper and Bajrami have been disappointments but can still be sold on and have retained some value.
Hopefully and I believe we will, recruit players this summer with a better physical profile along with the addition of a few Scottish.
02 Jun 2025 13:51:35
He sounds like a really decent guy john.
02 Jun 2025 14:10:19
I was critical of his promotion as he was a recruitment special-ist and had been moved out of that role as a kinda defacto DoF. He had no experience in the new role and it meant losing him as a dedicated recruitment guy which was one of the things we got right in recent seasons.
I feel my criticism was justified and this news confirms the new board feel his promotion was a mistake.
I liked Koppen and wish him all the best but am happy we are implementing a better structure at the club.
02 Jun 2025 14:28:10
Basically the same info EHL gave us re Koppen this morning.
02 Jun 2025 14:49:20
Craig when they are under contract they technically can't work for anyone else if they want their full whack. Where there is a pay off or a no fee it's so that they can continue working for another employer.
02 Jun 2025 15:08:39
There Basically is no job for him at Rangers now without him willing to downgrade which fair enough he wasn't willing to do and who could blame him. Will leave with everyone's best wishes i am sure, i think he has done a decent job under the circumstances.
02 Jun 2025 15:27:44
Think koppen did a pretty good job during very challenging times at the club. The majority of transfers should hopefully make the a profit. Not a bad hit rate all things considered.
02 Jun 2025 16:14:08
Think Thelwell and Purdy decision was made a few months ago.
02 Jun 2025 16:21:33
Of Kippen was doing such a great job his role wouldn't be downgraded he's on the whole flopped with signings like Cortes. Propper Bajrami players that cost our club in the region of 10m and thatsonly 3 i can mention it wish him all the best and he maybe a nice guy but so was pc the thing both have in common is failing at there job. Good luck at what he does next I'm glad it's not recruitment at rangers.
02 Jun 2025 16:22:34
Totally disagree je was more miss than hit.
02 Jun 2025 16:41:52
Mystar i seen thelwell and purdy were both in attendance with cavvanagh at old trafford for our EL game.
02 Jun 2025 16:43:03
OWS, it's odd that NK often gets the 'blame' for the signing of Cortes - which isn't actually correct.
The reality is that he's done a great deal behind the scenes to advance the club and create the platform that we can now build from - unfortunately though he'll be remembered more for two poor signings in Proper and Bajrami.
Who'd work in football!
02 Jun 2025 16:43:10
Jefte is far from being a positive.
02 Jun 2025 17:32:23
Im assuming koppen isn't going to that transfer summit thing now.
02 Jun 2025 17:55:07
Ows just not true and no guy in his position gets 100% signings correct the average is much less than 50% am sure Angus checked this. Fans are just not realistic it's not football manager .
Royal Rangers not everyone would have seen ehl post either nae need for the snide remarks and I know that's rich coming from me but it's my opinion.
02 Jun 2025 17:55:29
Yes koppen is still going am sure ehl confirmed this.
02 Jun 2025 18:03:44
Ehl look back to winter of 24 we were going gor a title i know we had limited funds but wasn't he the 1 who brought in silva and cortes.
02 Jun 2025 18:30:19
OWS, I can't remember the exact dates, but I think he joined in the January - when we had zero funds to spend.
You are correct that we signed Cortes, Dio and Silva all on loan in that window - however Cortes had been identified and scouted by the club and the deal was very much in motion.
I'm pretty sure it was Bomber who went out to scout Cortes and gave him a glowing report.
He then had one summer window where we lost out on pretty much every key target - not the fault of the person scouting them.
Then a second January window where we had zero funds and loaned 1 player, Fernandes.
Considering he bought in Baron, Kelly and Nsiala for free - Jefte for pennies and Iga and Dio for a decent fee.
I'd give him at least pass marks.
02 Jun 2025 18:33:52
Onewalter he bought in silva, Cortes was already signed on loan.
02 Jun 2025 18:43:45
Koppen for me was a great success player wise. I think we'll appreciate him in 2 years from now when we have sold his batch of players and the young ins brought in this window are introduced to 1st team.
02 Jun 2025 18:44:34
Koppen won't forget us.
02 Jun 2025 18:55:08
Think Koppen did a decent job with the circumstances. History will probably look kindly on some of his signings when they move on for good profits. Wage bill down and profile of signing much improved (ie not aging/ average lower league players from England on high wages) . Was he the one that got the ball rolling on the club attending these transfer summits too?
02 Jun 2025 19:59:32
I tried to look the dates with Koppen and Cortes both joined Jan that's all I can find but am sure the majority of players would have been looked at before January it's that's what clubs do.
02 Jun 2025 20:57:29
John Brown had scouted Cortes before Koppen, Rangers tried to sign him before he signed for the French club.
02 Jun 2025 21:04:18
We'll probably get more in returns for a couple of players than any money Koppen used, I believe he done responsible well, should get money back for Propper and Bajrami (I'm keeping for next season) Jefte 800k, Diomande 4.5m, Igamane 1.7m, Nsiala 0, Barron 800k, Kelly 0, Kasanwirjo loan and hopefully but back for just over 1m, Cerny good return on his loan same as Sima, more success than failer in my eyes.
02 Jun 2025 21:52:21
Koppen's legacy might be the signings of Igamane, and Dio as they might command a decent transfer fee if they were sold sometime in the future.
02 Jun 2025 23:26:28
Koppens record at PSV in the years prior to joining us was superb, we know fine well how good the team he helped build as he progressed through the different talent scouting positions at the club, they skelped us silly in the champs league qualifiers, he bought players there for fees as low as 250k that are now valued at 35 mill plus, i wouldnt; be surprised if he ends up at PSV or Ajax or another big european club, making him DOF at Rangers was stupid he has no experience in that department, his key skills are unearthing and bringing in raw young talent with potentially high resale value, a job he excelled in a at PSV who have been a very good team for some time.
All the best to Nils in his next talent scout position, he will not be short of suitors when he decided which clubs benefits from the new young talent he snaps up for bargain prices, that then get sold on for big money.
one thing i highly doubt is that we will get a head talent scout with his knowledge and contacts in that is anywhere near as good as him.
03 Jun 2025 01:04:18
Cooper Jeftes being played in the wrong position all season, even though his value has increased by 2.2 million in one season.
Jefte best position in my opinion is at LW.
03 Jun 2025 01:24:31
Koppen, previously head of scouting for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, originally joined Rangers as director of football recruitment in January 2024 before the Belgian stepped up to become technical director 10 months later.
