Why do we go for players we know we can't afford or are unwilling to meet club asking price, Dahl being perfect example.
Who is setting what we bid, the same with what we want for our players. They need to have a check on reality.or is it just a big con on behalf of club making bids to appease fans in the knowledge bids will not be accepted.

Let's be honest Americans bought club because they think they can make money out of us through future sale, don't think they are in it for long term.

Jasp, I'm pretty sure we were told the price they wanted 6 months ago and since the boy has played well, his value has increased substantially. Surely it makes good business sense to enquire for him around the previous value and then, if a Premiership team offers more than we're willing to, your big idea is that we shouldn't have enquired in the first place? Total madness.

Have we not bid EUR10 for Algerian lad, yes, knocked back, but we bid reasonably similar for Dahl, Tromso moved the goalposts. Why would we bid what we think the player is worth if we don't want them, it's called negotiating not appeasement, one club has a value as does the buying club, can't just throw money out the door, look where that got us in the past.

You say Americans are in it to make money, throwing bids above frugality/ viewed worth down the road is not how u make money, it's risk verse reward, books need balanced without over extending.
So are all the players we've enquired about just a smokescreen, that's just nuts.

To be honest, I think we offered what we felt Dahl was worth, his club (and Hull) disagreed. I think the value is decided by a multiple of factors, some are externally fixed and others will be internal.

Let's say we paid the EUR10m for another centre mid. The cost of that signing would have been wingers we've both signed and are looking to sign. We've got Yokota and are linked with the boy from PSV (who is a more realistic target than the Algerian lad). Both those players can be signed for the same money as Dahl. Does that not make more sense given the lack of wingers and the oversubscribed centre midfield players?

There have also been a number of comments relating to Dahl being a number 10 and McInnes not playing a formation which contains a number 10.

Let's not forget about Aasgaard, who I suspect will have a very good season (hopefully for us).

We can't simply pay what clubs demand. It's all a negotiation. Some we will win and some we won't. It's the same with selling; I'm still waiting to see Raskin being sold for this mythical £20m or Fernandez for the pie in the sky £25m.

Yes, not signing Dahl for 10 million when we've got about 27 midfielders is a big con on behalf of the club.

You don't actually believe that, do you? Think you need a reality check, not the owners. 😂

Well, the appeasement isn't working, is it, as fans are still moaning that we haven't signed anyone and that we should just pay every price the press report is being asked for. So, as a strategy, it isn't a very good one.

Can I ask what would make you happy, though, as we buy players for little cash and they aren't good enough.

We then try to buy players, for, what, for us, are extremely good transfer fees, and you still aren't happy.

It always seems to me that folk just like to moan; more do when we aren't winning, and as we haven't won for a while I can't remember what happens then. 😉

These posts are honestly unhinged.

Jasp, your theory doesn't stand up, my friend, regarding our American owners not prepared to spend money. 🤔 Into the bargain, who's to definitely say we were all in 100% trying to sign Dahl in the first place. 🤔 We absolutely needed wingers, and that position had to get prioritised.

🤔 With Yokota now signed for the right wing, and hopefully Driouech signed for our left wing, that's more than enough in the attacking third, with Aasgaard more than capable of playing where Dahl would have played. 👍 🇬🇧

We can and could have afforded Dahl, but do you think two higher level wingers are less important than bringing in another CM, no matter how high his ceiling is?

I wanted a Dahl a lot, but not at the expense of making do, winger wise, or settling for sub par fillers there.

I actually applaud the efforts of this current board. They are repeatedly putting money where their mouths are. The fact is, we have limits in terms of both spend and what we perceive as value (as in the case of Dahl). With many, I feel Aasgaard covers the '10' position and can kick on this year, as he seems to have added a little World Cup swagger.
We need wingers (as well as defensive reinforcements), so to pay around £10m for 2 players, for me, shows real intent.

We now have Yokota in, and are chasing Driouech, which, for me, speaks volumes on commitment.
Some fans need to understand the road to recovery is small steps. We need to shop in affordable markets for potential gems, which these days increasingly costs £3-6m. It is reality, and I, for one, have faith we'll get it right.

Roll on a good result tonight!

Some supporters really need to stop with this theory! Does anyone really think our board are purposely putting in low ball offers they know will be knocked back, in the hope supporters think they are doing everything they can to sign a player? Please! Do you really think these high powered business men would go to all this trouble to appease the masses? Behave!

What posts, Wishy? Op posted, and forum responded. Explain how the rhetoric used in response is incorrect, not unhinged, and just balanced responses.

It wouldn't be the first time clubs have done that though, Sunshine. Daniel Levy did it all the time at Spurs. Make the club look like they are active and ambitious, then late in the window bring in cheaper player, saying you just couldn't quite get the deals done.

And also clubs also use other clubs and media to drive up interest in their players or as contract negotiations with their own. Nothing surprises you in transfer window.

{Ed001's Note - Levy did no such thing. He was not trying to look active and ambitious, he was just trying to pick up bargains. You are getting mixed up with what agents do and clubs do. It is agents that use the media.}

He regularly got into unrealistic bids with players and clubs he knew there was no chance of them signing. He's not the only one. It happens a lot that clubs look to create headlines.

Agents, obviously, do the worst of it like happening with Vini Jnr and Arsenal, but only works because clubs play the game too. Not saying this is what we're doing, but it certainly happens.

{Ed001's Note - whatever, you clearly know f all about it, I am not going to waste time on ignorance.}
