It would seem we are working down our list of targets rather than up

04 Aug 2026 10:58:04
If we can't get 1st choice which has been eluded to many times on here, then of course we need to work down the list. I wish fans would realise that in world football (not Rangers fans' minds), we are no longer a major attraction for world class players.

04 Aug 2026 11:04:11
Is that not how lists work, u start from the top and work your way to the bottom 😁. Jokes aside, is it not because we could not get our top target so we move on to the next?

04 Aug 2026 11:05:20
Just had a bid 8m rejected, so maybe trying again for higher up the list.

04 Aug 2026 11:10:05
It's how a transfer window works. No-one works from the bottom up, Fourlads.

Glad you're not on the recruitment team, pal. :)

04 Aug 2026 11:27:06
Wishy, Ghedjemis's club Frosinone are wanting a fee in the region of between £13million-£17million for him. 😲 We've had an £8million plus bid turned down and Celtic have had a £6million bid turned down for him a couple of days ago. 🤔 I hope I'm wrong, but I genuinely think he'll be too expensive for us and them for that matter. 🤔 He's a good winger with good numbers, and him and our about to be signed Japanese right winger Daisuke Yokota would be superb additions and absolutely sort out/enhance our problem right wing position big time.

👌🇬🇧 We're allegedly also chasing a Turkish winger for the left wing position. 🤔 So things kicking on and proving our owners absolutely mean business. 👍🇬🇧

04 Aug 2026 11:29:32
Sorry, lads, but it's concerning for me. Going from targets such as Dahl, Cerny, Cozier-Duberry to a German second division winger is worrying. Our recruitment seems to be getting to be at the desperate stage, where, in fact, we couldn't afford to get it wrong this summer.

Time and time again the same happens and we get the wool pulled over our eyes. imo the recruitment isn't good enough so far. We need quality and difference makers.

04 Aug 2026 11:41:07
Yeh, but I think the Japanese lad is a squad back up which is good biz.

04 Aug 2026 12:02:17
FourLads, those are only the players you've heard about in the media often via agents looking to create interest in their clients. Cozier Duberry, as an example, was playing in the 3rd tier of England last season, a league many of our fans have had complaints when signings are made from this league.

To do a deal you need 3 parties aligned.
A seller willing to sell at agreeable terms
A buyer willing to meet those terms
The Player wanting to join - football, financial, career progression, family life & lifestyle (all things considered)

If one of these can't be satisfied then you have no deal.

Everyone is keen to jump the gun, assuming it's the buyer who is at fault, which often isn't the case.

04 Aug 2026 12:05:32
Perhaps he is GDog but we need proven players if we want to win the title.

04 Aug 2026 12:10:06
TrueBlue, not true.
Players have been mentioned before they have appeared in tabloids and main stream media.
By a few of us over the period of months, media only now picking up the info.

04 Aug 2026 12:22:29
TrueBlue, we have missed out on numerous targets already because we wouldn't pay the valuation for the player. Our recruitment has been shambolic to say the least. Key areas haven't been addressed, and we are going into a Europa League qualifier on Thursday weaker than we were last season.

04 Aug 2026 12:32:25
FourLads, Cozier-Duberry was playing English League 1 last season & Brighton have already knocked back a £5 million bid for Anderlecht, aren't keen on selling him at all. I'd rather have the Japanese winger for £2 million than someone who, level so far, is League 1 for £6 million plus.

Cerny was probably never on the cards tbh, as much as I'd love him back, but he's on £45k a week & about £8 to £10 million to buy.

Dahl isn't a winger, there is a clear focus on wingers right now & something that needed to be addressed.

I still think we need a player like Dahl in the middle as we only have Aasagaard as a forward-thinking midfielder.

We've all been complaining we only shop in England & now we aren't, there is still complaining. Hearts signed players from divisions & leagues we never went near, Motherwell always seem to find talent too.
We'll never be able to buy talent for the top divisions for countries like Germany, can come from the Dutch or Belgian leagues, but they haven't been brilliant for us so far.

04 Aug 2026 12:43:27
Not for me, Djb, we need quality difference makers, not someone else who can't cut it in our league. Our defence also isn't good enough. How we find ourselves in this position time and time again is atrocious. Key areas that should have been addressed months ago haven't been.

04 Aug 2026 12:47:03
Fourlads, need to stay within our budget, so club needs to be sensible too - this is time of window when games start to be played by selling teams, and we can't be dragged into a mad bidding war as they mostly want - offer top price we can afford and if no sale then move on - it's the way of the world 🤔👍 Mahwanise imo would do a job - wonder what his price would be?

04 Aug 2026 12:47:53
Lower league Germany, have we not learned with Naderi?
I know we are shopping in the bargain bucket, surely we can have a bit more imagination than that, looking at past failures from areas we keep looking in.
If we thought Dahl was going to be the next great thing & make us a fortune in the next 2 years, why did the club not pay the going rate for him?
The board are taking fans for mugs.

By the end of the window there will have been no net spend. If this is a requirement to get the club back into profit, we will need to live with that, but don't come away with statements you can't back up.

04 Aug 2026 13:02:09
I agree, Blue Floyd. Mawanashe would be a great signing for us. Young, proven in our league, and would cost 3-4million. It's players like him we should be targeting rather than spending 2.7million on boys that have played 150 games in a Latvian league. 🙈

04 Aug 2026 13:14:51
Jasp, lower league with better quality, that makes a great deal of sense. 👌
Fourlads, have you seen that Japanese player playing? Clearly, you must have for having your opinion on him.

04 Aug 2026 13:24:57
Four lads, the second point still stands on what it takes to get a deal done.
We also speak to agents of players to understand what it takes to get a deal done, and whether a player is keen on the move.
Clubs can change stance when they see interest increasing. Not everything is in our control.

And there isn't a bottomless pit of money to get everything we want.
Interesting valuation of Maswanhise, a lot lower than what Motherwell value him at. Just because you as a fan value someone at 3 or 4 million doesn't mean that Motherwell should accept that.

04 Aug 2026 13:24:17
Fourlads, how do you know that our new japanese right winger daisuke yokota won't be a good signing for us with his pace and direct style of play taking opponents on to create chances for our strikers 🤔🇬🇧 Give the guy a chance and because his name wasn't mentioned how do you or anyone of us know that his name wasn't always as one of our signing targets, we don't know, i'll answer it for you 🤔 He's the type of winger we're looking for so let's wait and see how he performs for us before judging 🤔

04 Aug 2026 13:38:44
TrueBlue, it's been widely reported Motherwell value Maswanishe at 4million. It's interesting to get other fans' thoughts on matters. I am concerned, as it seems to me we are shopping bargain basement now. Our business now seems to be getting desperate rather than thought out. As I said earlier, our problem areas such as the wings should have been addressed earlier in the window.

04 Aug 2026 13:39:35
Where is the focus on Scottish players or players that know the league before foreign players? Is it that no one bar free transfers Shankland and Devlin want to come, or that clubs won't deal with us?

Seems strange, after AC comments, that we haven't been in for the likes of Just or Mawanshe of Motherwell.

Second season in a row with 1 Lb so far.

If Souttar and Barron go, that's another hit on the association players quota if not being replaced with others.

Apart from Pandur and maybe Shankland, who have we genuinely signed that is a starter and improvement on last season?

Needs to be a very very busy few weeks transfer wise.

04 Aug 2026 13:53:54
Back up, aye right.

04 Aug 2026 14:03:35
Writing off players before they've played a game isn't for me.

Shopping in the bargain basement, I'm not sure I'd agree with either.
It's maximising the budget we have available due to UEFA financial sustainability rules. A reported £8m offer rejected for Ghedjemis is hardly bargain basement stuff either.

These players also have to want to come here. A lot fail to acknowledge this. Or we could just offer them silly money to make sure they can't turn us down. Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo, Cifuentes etc.

04 Aug 2026 14:09:58
Some good points there, Coisty. Cavanagh certainly talks the talk, but he has yet to walk the walk

How, at this time of the season, we can be worse off than this time last year is terrible business for me.

04 Aug 2026 14:26:39
The idea that Rangers will prioritise Scottish payers of similar ability if two are available and one is from abroad has already been forgotten, Coisty. It was a nonsense to begin with and simply a case of the board telling the fans what they wanted to hear.

Rangers will look for the best ability and value they can find. As it should be.

04 Aug 2026 15:10:54
There's a reason why as aren't signing Scottish or SPL proven players & that's they simply aren't good enough, the ones that are good are beyond our price range. Shankland was useless on Friday, didn't get service whatever, but he didn't press when others pressed & was jogging about the place, didn't hold the ball up & give poor passes. Devlin somehow didn't get a booking after 5 fouls in the first & more in the second.

McCrorie, who you forgot to mention.

EHL has hinted that we have actually tried to sign Maswanhise, Celtic tried, or at least looked, & didn't sign him. He wants to play down in England & not stay in Scotland. Just Watt & Maswanhise aren't proven at all. 1 good season does not equal proven & Motherwell ask for more money when the Old Firm ask too.

04 Aug 2026 15:26:32
Coops, it's not good signings we require, it's great signings. Quality over quantity, and this boy ain't it.

04 Aug 2026 15:07:33
sorry but who in Rangers has actually said these are the players we tried to get but failed, whether its on this site or in newspapers its still all rumours is it not.

04 Aug 2026 15:37:27
Fourlads, are you stating all this because your names on who you said you had good info we were signing haven't been proved correct my friend, is that the case here 🤔

04 Aug 2026 16:38:11
Coops, that's a ridiculous statement even from you. It's been widely reported in the media, the players we have been chasing, not just in here. If you are happy with the players we are signing over players such as Skogland, Dahl, Ferguson, Cerny, then more fool you.

I have seen this movie before, and I am witnessing it once again. Recruitment hasn't been good enough for years, and it's not good enough this year either.

04 Aug 2026 17:35:32
Fourlads, tell me how you know Yokota won't be a good signing for us. 🤔 You don't, as none of us do, but it's your opinion that he won't whereas I think he will and is the type of right winger we need, i.e. he's fast, very direct, taking opposition players on, can take our team up the park, has very good dribbling skills, all coupled with a very good attitude and terrific work ethic.

🤔 So give me your reasons how, in your opinion, he won't be a good signing for us, let's hear it. 🤔 We'll see on the 3rd of September if our recruitment has been good enough or not. 🤔 I've experienced, I'd guess, a lot more than your good self following my club everywhere for over 50 years now pal. 🤔

04 Aug 2026 17:37:24
Fourlads, the info you gave us regarding players' names we were allegedly trying to sign, there's absolutely no evidence we were trying to sign them because nobody knows the way Rangers now conduct their transfer business, pal. 🤔🇬🇧

04 Aug 2026 17:49:45
Fourlads, very entitled to his opinion like everyone else.
He's been a great poster since he has joined the site, always shares his opinion and rumours openly and intelligently without being rude.
Again, some replies making silly assumptions towards him, sorry, but no need to steep low.

Keep it real folks.

04 Aug 2026 18:01:03
Very much so, Stig. It seems you can't have an opinion on here unless it's all sunshine and roses. Coops, you carry on with your own beliefs, pal. Your head's in the clouds, though, if you think Yokota is a better winger than Cerny.

It's bottom of the barrel, desperate shopping for us to get a winger in by Thursday. I'm embarrassed by our recruitment. We addressed areas that didn't need addressing, such as GK, and left key areas to the last minute. You reap what you sow, I guess.

04 Aug 2026 18:45:11
We all don't know what the reality of these deals would be.

And who says we haven't tried to sign these players mentioned? There's only so much the recruitment team can control and that's researching and putting in the bids. If they aren't accepted or players don't want to come, it doesn't mean we haven't tried. Few of us know the facts and it isn't easy as some may think.

Our recruitment may have been working in the wingers etc for a while and it hasn't worked out who they'd hoped.

In regards to the Cerny thing, it maybe didn't make financial sense for the club with his age, fee being quoted and his earnings and again, maybe he doesn't want to come.
