Who we thinking for captain then?
I'm guessing we take Nico out the equation, Shankland? i'd really hope it's not Neil, Godfrey or Sicknote Sterling.
I don't think it goes to any of the current forwards. Baron, Raskin look like they will leave, There's clearly players it's obviously not going to be, so that pretty much leaves a couple of the new guys, Manny, Rommens and Sicknote. Common sense would then say it would have to be between shankland and Neil with Devlin for the outsiders punt

Think Mciness will know better than us, good having a handful to choose from now. Ekger.

Drago? To be captain of your team at 20, he must have some qualities, might be a bit left field, but you never know.

I think Ben Godfrey will be our new Rangers captain, with Shankland as vice captain. 🤔 However, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it was the other way around. 🤔 🇬🇧

Shankland won't start every game or finish every game, and would prefer to see the captain with the game in front of him.

I think if the intended captain was in the building we'd know they had it by now. No idea who, but if I were DMc, the only reason I wouldn't have sorted it yet is I'm waiting for the squad to be finalised, hoping I get who in after.
If his intended was already there, I don't see any reason not to have done it already.
Unless, of course, he has, and it just isn't public yet because he wants to protect the player a bit from us. Which is understandable. Imagine he'd given it to someone who didn't start well on the park in the friendlies. Our fan base would be cooking them. 🤣

I'd agree with Godfrey. He's the most likely starter. And, with so many new players, no one really stands out. Let them establish themselves and see who deserves to be long term captain.

Gdog, McInnes knows who is making our new captain and is naming him before our game on Friday night, mate, so he's not waiting on anyone still to be signed. 🤔 🇬🇧

Based on nothing more than gut feeling - Ben Godfrey, I think. As this is new times, a new leadership group, I think, with Ben being 28 with experience, I think it's going to be him. If I didn't know anything about Rangers and was just randomly watching them and was asked who do you think their captain is, I'd probably point to Ben. Ben just needs to stay fit and it's one hell of a bargain if we exercise his option at the reported 3.8 million.
I have my doubts on it being Shankland outright because the gaff has said normally he doesn't like strikers being captain, and because the gaffer has quite a few to choose from I think he could be vice.
There's a chance it could be Dan Neil. Ex Sunderland captain and very vocal behind the scenes.
I don't think it will be Ross Mc or Sterling, both for the same reason, injuries and because they are constantly going to be rotating with each other.
Left field suggestion is Drago - my doubt about that is, has the manager looked at him close enough in person to say that's the right decision? idk. 🤷♂️
To be honest I'm not that bothered, what enthuses me is there is a team full of captains. That's wee guys like Devlin step up.
Exciting times. Only 2 sleeps to go u til we get to see the real stuff.

Gdog, that is why he gave the arm band to 5 different players in the friendlies and he has said he is close to his decision. So suspect it will be one of those 5. He has also said in the past, I think, that he prefers mf to be the captain but with Hearts there wasn't a candidate so Shankland got it.
But what we do have now seems to be 5 players that the manager thinks are leaders on the park. So that will stand us in good stead during games whoever gets it.
By the way, there is no need for the sick note comment. Have a bit of respect and grow up.

Guys saying Drago for captain. Partizan make all their young academy products the official captain because that's how they make their money selling young academy players.
It looks good to clubs and fans when a player has had experience of being a captain.
In reality, they have senior players at the club that aren't always moving on that actually do the job.
This info has been on a few podcasts when talking to Partizan based journalists and fans groups.

For me, if Godfrey was ours, it would be him. Can't have a loan player be captain. Been racking my brains and can't think of that happening at any club.
29 Jul 2026 09:19:49
It's not ideal, R1, but if your other options are being rotated or on the bench, what do u do?
29 Jul 2026 11:57:37
Dan Neil - Captain by looks of it.
Shankland I reckon vice captain.
29 Jul 2026 13:03:14
It won't be Godfrey, he's a loanee.
Neil or Shankland will captain the team until Ferguson signs on the last day of the window. He's been promised it as part of the deal apparently.

Turns out I was right, Shankland it is. 🇬🇧
