Long term follower and first time poster. Just wanted to throw my thoughts in lads.

For me the squad in terms of SPFL and more importantly Glasgow Rangers experience is just about there. I do like Penrice and think with him being a Rangers man he could add a lot on and off the pitch. Also probably won't make too many waves if he does find himself playing second fiddle to Rommens. I would be tempted to try and find a Bassey type player who can play both LCB and LB. My priority would however be a first choice right back as I don't feel Mccrorie or Sterling are of the standard required to be first choice at our club. At that point mccrorie and Sterling then become your utility RCB/RB cover. This effectively gives you a settled back 4 and plenty of cover. There is a lot of hype around manny and there is potential there but the boy needs stacks of work. He isn't a killer in both boxes and this is largely down to his positioning which I won't say is woeful but certainly needs a lot of improvement. Luckily for him we have a manager that is renowned for improving defenders.

We certainly need a RW that isn't even up for debate but we do also need a LW as young Curtis is still very much in development and is not ready to fire us towards a title. Unfair on the boy to suggest otherwise.

A lot of clamour for the boy Dahl as well which I totally understand however what I would say is that there is another Norwegian who plays a similar role to Dahl, already playing for the national team, not too much older than Dahl and also has bags of potential. The best thing about this player is that he is already on our books! Should we shift those in midfield that have been mentioned then 💯 sign Dahl as that creates that conveyor belt of talent and potential sales but Aasgaard I feel might just surprise a few next season. I wasn't the biggest fan of the guy last season but if Mcinnes can speed up his game and add that yard of pace he could be deadly for us.

I'd rather wait until the end to add the best quality we can to the squad than panic buy just now to be fair. The sensible work has already been done now it's about bolstering the defence and adding that proper match winning quality for me.

Apologies, a bit long winded. All the best!

Penrice does not consider himself a Rangers fan, he is 100% a Man City fan (direct from the horse's mouth).

Bigshanksloyal, Dujon Sterling, I disagree with you because he absolutely, for me, is the required standard, ability wise, and it's his injury issues that are the problem. 🤔 If Sterling didn't have any injury issues, he wouldn't be playing in Scottish football and would be playing in the English Premier League with a decent size club. 🤔 Sterling is a very good defender. 👌🇬🇧

Coops Sterling is bang average, mate.

25 Jul 2026 09:13:34
It's all opinions, mate, but for me, barring a strong tackle, I find Sterling wanting a lot. As you say, he has a lot of injuries, so it may be down to that, but other than the 2 months under Clement he was used all over the pitch, I don't see the hype around him. I don't know Penrice personally, but I know someone who knows his dad very well, as we are from the same neck of the woods, and he is a big Rangers man so I assumed he would be as well.

Not someone I would be overly excited about anyway, and as mentioned, would prefer a settled back 4 with adequate cover to see us through the season.

Another Ryan Jack, 'if he was fit, he is first on the team sheet', But!

25 Jul 2026 09:25:21
Good post Big Shank, people overlooking Thelo are mad imo.

I never really understood the Dahl hype tbh. Normally I'm just the same as everyone and normally would have wanted Dahl wholeheartedly, but I'm too busy wanting a right winger and for players deemed not good enough to go. It will open up the transfer window for us.

I do think that's a lot of folk that have just watched his highlights package, have seen him score a few screamers and thought he'd be great for us. I don't have an issue with that. I've done it myself.

We have a really talented player in Aasgaard, who looks like he has a point to prove.

The most important part though is that our gaffer rates him, and for me that's the most important aspect.

I'm a wee bit concerned about our winger situation, especially with Dundee United coming up. I get we've been busy, but I'm not going to lie, either, I am a little disappointed they haven't got a right winger in yet. It's been our problem position for too long. I'm sure they've tried/trying though.

Spot on SWS, Sterling is absolutely the standard we need at RB, arguably been my favourite player until recent events, has performed well in a range of positions he's played, but he has struggled a bit towards end of season in terms of the few performances he did make. Appreciate he has an unusual condition that impacts him.

Bottom line is there is no place for sentimentality. We can't keep players who are available to play about 50% of the time all whilst paying them a fortune.

I am not sure about McCrorrie being first choice RB, but he is versatile and can play CB and CM also so get the logic in signing him.

We need Sterling out and another RB. Reading other posts, sounds like Skoglund deal could be that first choice RB others seek. We need competition for places, so let them battle it out.

Fav player until recently, the right back we need, but let him go. 😂

25 Jul 2026 10:45:07
Dujon Sterling bang average is your opinion, Storm, but he's far from bang average imo. 🤔

25 Jul 2026 10:55:51
Good post, big shanks. Agree with your points apart from your opinion of Sterling. Sterling is a very good player. The problem is that no matter how good a player, if he is not fit and sitting in the stand, he is useless to the team. Sadly, he needs moved on.

25 Jul 2026 11:15:09
I still think the starting 11 is well if it, mate. imo we need 1 new starting midfielder, 2 new starting wingers, a new starting cb and a new starting rb. We need 5 starters to compete imo.

25 Jul 2026 11:20:27
Sterling is a very good player, solid in the tackle and puts himself about. He has the leadership and mentality qualities that McInnes looks for in a player. The problem is that he is injured more than he is fit, and we can't afford to have players that we can't rely on.

I'm hoping he can stay fit, because I think that he would be a great fit in a McInnes set up.

25 Jul 2026 11:29:09
I agree he is a McInnes type player and, as mentioned, McInnes has a great record of making players better. I thought Sterling had great potential probably 2 years ago, but is now beyond that. I can't speak for his leadership qualities, as you'd really need to be working with them to know that, but personally for me, and injuries aside, I'm yet to see consistent quality from him. In fairness, 1 vs 1 he is more robust than Tav.

Regardless of ability, and, as others have rightly said, we need a new starting RB because his fitness can't be relied upon. Plenty of work to be done, but I'm optimistic for this season and hopefully if there are a few disappointing results at the start we can all keep behind the team and not capitulate as we have done. Last season proved that anything can happen.

25 Jul 2026 11:29:22
I understand why some think Sterling is bang average, one million a year the last three years.

Available for less than half our games, as McInnes said after St Etienne had to take a jag at weekend and hopes to have him fit for some minutes on Sunday, if we can't sell him, that's another million wasted.

25 Jul 2026 11:44:37
I agree that Penrice would be a good signing and provide competition for Rommens, but I believe someone in here said we've no interest in the player.
I'm hearing that the dark side are monitoring him and I think he'd be good for either side, providing cover in 20+ games per season.
If we're interested, I hope we don't move too late.

25 Jul 2026 12:51:19
We need to bring in another RB even if Sterling stays, as he can't stay fit and will leave us short.

When he does play, he is decent, but not outstanding. Not great on the ball imo.

If we can sell, then I would.

25 Jul 2026 12:52:57
Great 1st post, bigshanks, agree with just about all u say. Re Sterling, can debate his ability all we like, but at the end of the day, if u can't play, you're no good to anyone.

25 Jul 2026 13:01:24
Only talking about Dujon Sterling's ability, John, and he's in no way average for me. 🤔

25 Jul 2026 13:18:53
I'm looking at the bigger picture, Walter, 4 million in salary, ten league games he participated in last season.

25 Jul 2026 13:27:16
We need a right-back that can attack because McCrorie can't do it. The fact is, Rangers will be in possession and attacking, most of the time in Scottish football. Having attacking full-backs will be a real asset for those games when we are trying to break teams down, chasing a goal, etc.

Rangers currently lack an attacking fullback on that right side.

Put the more defensive guys in when we are in Europe, playing against Celtic, etc.

Tell me you didn't read my post properly without telling me you didn't read my post properly, Storm. 👍
