Surely it can't be possible to have a player/s playing at the WC and not being good enough for Rangers, can it?

I've seen enough of Assgaard during his time at Rangers that see there's real talent there.

I just hope McInnes can get it out of him. POTY for us if he can.

26 Jun 2026 20:51:51
He's definitely got something about him mate, just needs to have the right coach or be played in the correct position to bring it out of him.

26 Jun 2026 20:52:29
There's definately a player there. 1st touch, strong on the ball and some nice flicks and tricks along with a very good shot. Which makes him one of the most frustrating players ever to watch, as you know, he has that in his locker. You can see him hiding in games and not wanting the ball. Looks like he just needs to be doing more.

Aasgaard to me shows everything I hate about some modern footballers. He's a jogging footballer. I've never once seen him run.

Will be (partly) to plan for all 3 France goals as a massive lazy gap in the middle of the park, jogging back.

I'd hope that we'd get a profit selling him this summer after getting first start with both teams through. A lazy lazy player.

26 Jun 2026 21:09:14
Technically he's 100% good enough. His mentality is the issue, but maybe with guys like Shankland and McInnes in the dressing room, it will maybe rub off on him and we will see a different Thelo.

26 Jun 2026 21:09:17
Not he's strong on the ball in Scotland. Gets bullied ever game.

26 Jun 2026 21:11:34
Often have said it on here regarding Thelo Aasgaard after watching his first season at Rangers. ? He's a talented footballer and technically good, but just puts the tools away during games and plays in phases when he wants. ? If he finds consistency and character under McInnes, we'll have a very good player on our hands.

? Talent not in question for me, but character is. ? Still young enough, and with it being his first season with Rangers in Scottish football, I'm hoping he'll kick on even more this season. ???

26 Jun 2026 21:29:24
I think most people agree, with the ball at his feet, he is technically good, and is useful at set pieces. However, off the ball he is nowhere near good enough. And I've said it before, and can see it watching tonight's game. At times, when you watch him out of possession, it's almost as if he doesn't know where he is supposed to be.

And doesn't get back into position quickly enough.

That said, he doesn't have the tools to be very good, if he can improve on the other side of the game, and I will also say I thought his performances improved towards the end of the season. So still hoping he comes good, and, like others have said, maybe McInnes will be able to get the best out of him.

26 Jun 2026 21:38:36
I saw him against Celtic, no chasing down balls and lazy. That's enough for me to say no!

26 Jun 2026 21:51:22
Malik Tillman was constantly slated for being like that, yet he is world class.

26 Jun 2026 22:21:43
As an attacking player, he will provide some defensive cover, but my front three or four shouldn't be sprinting back and playing like full-backs. Look at players like Dembele and Doue; they don't do that.

Their teams rely on defensive specialists to win the ball back and feed it to the flair players. He isn't the type to sprint around aimlessly just to satisfy work-rate critics, unlike players like Barron, who run around like headless chickens supposedly by doing just what you are asking for.

He possesses genuine tactical intelligence and understands that creating space requires clever movement, not mindless running. He would thrive much better moving to a league that actually respects technical, possession-based football. We, meanwhile, will get Devlin. ?

26 Jun 2026 22:47:49
It's because players like Devlin work in our league, Angus, Aasgaard is a very good footballer, would be better in a more technical league, felt the same with Diomande for a while, Aasgaard could be a player for us, but he isn't doing what a big percentage of fans are looking for.

?
Does what his manager asks, he'll be fine, hoping he kicks on next season.

26 Jun 2026 23:30:05
Some players are better suited to different cultures and styles than others. Wouldn't be the 1st player to look good for his country or in one league but not work in another. Hope if he's staying he improves the other parts of his game.

27 Jun 2026 01:56:41
6 - Watt
8 - Since I don't believe Ferguson will happen, Jens Hjerto Dahl, which I believe is even less likely. ?
10 - I'd take Just for this role or stick with Aasgaard.

27 Jun 2026 05:22:46
Stephane Guivarc'h won the World Cup. Then he came to Rangers and failed as a player.

This is why I keep saying you can't make a guy that has never kicked a ball for the club captain. Who that person is, and what they have achieved prior to joining Rangers, means nothing. Doing it at Rangers, and doing it somewhere else, is two totally different things.

27 Jun 2026 07:43:45
My issue with Aasgaard is creativity. Is he too scared or too cautious to make passes, or does he not see them? I think it's the latter.
Just missing that bit of (as Thierry would say.) va va voom.

Ehl can explain va va voom in football terms. ??

27 Jun 2026 07:55:16
Pieter, so does he have selective ability to see passes as he makes them for Norway. Or there is a third: we don't have players who make the runs for him to make the passes.

27 Jun 2026 08:48:22
Angus, haven't watched him play for Norway so can't comment.
Only based it in what I have watched at Ibrox and stand by it.

27 Jun 2026 08:52:43
He tries harder for Norway than he does for Rangers. He's not going to make it in Glasgow. He just doesn't have the fight in him.

27 Jun 2026 08:53:26
Sorry, replied, never answered the 3rd point.
I think we do have a front line, and players that don't see a lot of runs to make. Until Naderi came, he is for me good at breaking lines and running angles. But it's just not Aasgaard; there are a number of players who either don't see it, or aren't brave enough to pass.

I sometimes think it's always about ball retention, but then you see, for me, an obvious pass and it doesn't happen.

27 Jun 2026 09:20:44
Kaiser, Aasgaard is as English as they come. He's just lazy. Anyone remember Lowry?

27 Jun 2026 12:11:48
Lowry was anything but lazy coming up thru the ranks, fantastic ability, but lost his way, unfortunately.
