Am I able to ask you a question mate?

If Butland leaves, and we know Tav has already left, in your own opinion does that help Danny straight away in the dressing room - do you think we will see the best of Danny this coming new season given these players are leaving?

Does it help the atmosphere around the team?

For the past couple of seasons I've had a feeling that, if there has been any dressing room split, Tav and Butland may have been involved in it somewhere along the line.

But if you can set me straight on that, I'd appreciate it. I'd genuinely like to know if my thinking is wrong.

As much as I loved Tav I tend to agree, Stig, albeit no inside knowledge.

100%, Stig.

I think it changes the full dynamic around the squad.

I also think reducing the squad size in general will help massively.

Stig, my personal view is that we don't win a league with Butland in goal. Sure he makes saves but that's his job. There has been a lot of goals we concede where I think he should have done a lot better. Kelly is a good backup but let's get a new goalie in. As far as the serial losing leadership team in the dressing room, it doesn't say much for the previous managers that they have allowed people like Tav and Butland to have so much influence when they consistently fail every year.

So good on DR for picking his team he thinks could win a game. I'm glad we have a manager who stood by his principles.

Appreciate the reply, mate. That's sounding very positive, to be honest.

Feels like Danny has a real chance to build his own culture now rather than inheriting one. Perhaps, given your reply, I've been possibly too harsh on my overall thinking and opinion on Danny.

Reducing the squad size should be a big factor, as you say.

A tighter group with players all pulling in the same direction usually creates a far healthier atmosphere and hopefully will help build the foundations for a strong quality team for the coming season.

EHL, thanks, love your input on here.

BT - I think we're starting to see a clearer picture.
And, like you, I think we can have much better in goals and glad we will have a new captain this season.

I think I've maybe judged Danny Rohl too harshly at times. A lot of it probably comes from the constant failing and collapse season after season, and the emotions of that can sometimes stop you from looking at the bigger picture properly.

Even then, I've always had my doubts about Butland and Tav possibly causing issues behind the scenes.

If your leadership players aren't fully buying into the manager, or are resisting what he's trying to implement, it becomes very difficult for any manager to properly express or get across the style and mentality he wants from the team on the pitch.
Hoping now we're having this proper clear out, change in captain etc.

We will see a revamped Rangers this coming season.

I think you are correct regarding Tav and Butland potentially stirring things up - was the source of the recent leaking of team news down to one of them?
Much as I admired Barry Ferguson and Kenny Miller as players, I think they too had too much influence.

22 May 2026 10:15:49
I'm not a fan of reducing the squad. Time will tell if it is the right call.

22 May 2026 10:54:09
Interesting, Rfc22 - any particular reasons why?

Think this could be quite an interesting debate.

What was it we said before.
We should have quality players to cover every position.
Injuries.
Suspensions.
Competitiveness within the squad.

So for me, ideal squad size would be around 26 - 28 players max?

The big problem I see for next season is the amount of changes that are inevitable. The team will need to gel quickly, or the fans will again be on their back. It's already been said on here, any earlier failures and Danny needs to go. What chance do we have of success when we are ready to pounce if we fail.

Whilst I am looking forward, it seems it's the same every year with another rebuild, we shouldn't have had as many loans, that was the biggest issue mainly because we couldn't get our targets in or RM decided he didn't want them anyway.

Shocking state we find ourselves in yet again.

A squad of 18 seniors who can give flexible cover of all positions for me is perfect. This can then be complemented with youth that are ready to step up and play.
