Next season, a disaster for Scottish football.

08 Apr 2026 11:07:14
It's horrendous reading, Storm.
And just shows that without Rangers or Celtic being exceptional in Europe once in a blue moon, then the contribution from the other clubs is worthless.
Shamrock Rovers (LOI) gained the same co-efficient points as Rangers this season but more than Hibs, Dundee United and Aberdeen.

08 Apr 2026 11:26:36
You are correct, MPH. It caused a major uproar when I pointed that out also.

Rangers have been carrying the torch for years, 1 poor year, and this is what the result is.

08 Apr 2026 11:57:11
The other teams are worse than worthless. They actually drag our coefficient down. We would be better off if there was no 3rd or 4th team in Europe.

08 Apr 2026 12:08:17
Why we'll be better with only a few clubs representing our league. It's not only the Scottish league. We have a few countries that are depending on one or two clubs for boasting the coefficient points. ?

08 Apr 2026 12:35:24
Champions League? It should be called, the big 5, 12345 league. It's absolutely ridiculous what they're doing to the lesser leagues. It used to be one of my favourite tournaments to watch, but doesn't even interest me anymore, dirty greedy barstewards.

Couple of seasons without decent runs in Europe could be the death of some clubs, but they don't give a ? as long as the richest clubs get richer.

08 Apr 2026 12:40:52
I think it's only going to get worse. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but is it not equal points across all European competitions now, and am I right saying let's say there's 4 teams in Europe but only 2 make it through to the groups, do the other teams' potential coefficient points go onto the 2 remaining teams?

08 Apr 2026 12:48:43
It's easy to look at other teams and criticise them, however, we're equally as responsible.

Only 3 times have both teams qualified for the group stages. We have failed to make the group stages 11 times after qualifying, and we hold the record for the worst Champions League group stage record of all time.

We're a huge part of the reason we're losing a UCL spot.

08 Apr 2026 13:03:37
I had to agree with EHL, totally unfair blaming the rest of the teams. We are all to blame for JT.

08 Apr 2026 13:07:52
Fair enough, Ehl, but if they weren't putting 4/5 teams from certain countries in it, maybe it wouldn't be so difficult mate.

08 Apr 2026 13:19:51
EHL, I have to disagree here, as we obviously came back up and had to rebuild etc etc and Celtic and others benefited from this and never actually got us many co-ef points. We have single handedly got our country's points back up these past few years, and the other teams who were in at our expense have never kicked on.

Now, you point to only 3 times have both us qualified for the group stages, but as you will be aware, the damage from us being relegated meant our own clubs co-ef points dropped massively, and that in turn means we enter at earlier stages of qualifying and more potential banana skins, especially some of the good teams we have had to face.

We are not a huge part at all, maybe the supposed other big club in the country could contribute some points and actually bring something to the table.

Also, that record we have is solely down to our board and being left with Sands/King for a good chunk of that campaign. Maybe we should stop trying to blame our club and start looking at other teams in helping bring our game back up as Aphe said earlier, we have been carrying the torch for years now.

08 Apr 2026 14:01:23
Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United, St Mirren, Hibs and Celtic didn't bring that much to the table. Rangers have carried our coefficient points for too long on our own. We've picked up more coefficient points over the last five years than the rest of our league combined.

Wouldn't say Rangers are in any way a problem, one bad year in six, last eight a couple of times, last sixteen a few times.
Once it's only three clubs representing our league, watch the coefficient points pick right back up again. ?

08 Apr 2026 15:02:51
Totally disagreeing with you, EHL.
Rangers have gone from something like 200+ to ranked currently 37th (we were at 25th).
And have more co-efficient points these last 5 seasons than all other Scottish teams (apart from Celtic) added together.
So equally to blame doesn't wash.
Yes, we got a CL lesson and this season in the EL has been a disaster. But we've had more better than bad these last few seasons.
In the last 5 seasons.
Hearts worse season got bombed out by PAOK in a qualifier.
Celtic's worse season they got papped out all 3 Euro comps in the same season.
Aberdeen have been knocked out European Conference playoffs by Quarbag (2021/2022) and also finished 2nd bottom of the 36 team group in the same comp this season.

Hibs worse season was 2021/2022 when they were knocked out in the qualifiers by HNK Reijka.
Dundee United knocked out by Rapid Wein in a qualifier.
And that type of record continues for Killie, St Mirren, Motherwell & St Johnstone.
Now, we can talk about finances and the Old Firm should be doing better against certain teams.
But we also know that Rangers massively raised their game when we had some wonderful EL nights at Ibrox and beyond.
Rangers, however, need to pick themselves up from this seasons disastrous campaign and go again. I also think the CL will be a step to far again in the level of quality we will face. So next season might be further heartache.

08 Apr 2026 15:33:02
This year in Champions League there were 36 teams. 22 of them were from the Big 5. That's why it's so difficult. I get we are a part of the problem, but that's just ridiculous.

08 Apr 2026 18:07:30
Agree Boy Blue, it is not the same competition it was in the late 90s through to 2010. It is so repetitive now. Same fixtures year in year out.

08 Apr 2026 18:24:41
Exactly. ?

08 Apr 2026 20:11:22
You could say the SPFL for Rangers and Celtic against the rest is the same as the Old Firm in Europe against the top 5 leagues. I hate when fans talk about budget difference between us and big leagues when we had bigger budgets than the rest of the SPFL.
