Posted last week that we only had 8 players who met the 90% fitness marker.

Just heard that today it's down to 6.

So think today could be another grind.

21 Mar 2026 13:35:08
Very concerning, Ehl. Unfortunately, I believe this will be close to standard until the end of the season.

I will happily accept 1-0 grinds every single match though.

21 Mar 2026 13:40:09
What does the 90% fitness equate to? Hard to get my head round that number.

21 Mar 2026 13:55:18
Buzz, I'm not sure on the specifics used at Rangers at the moment; however, it will be a combination of Heart Rate Measures.

- Heart Rate Variability (HRV),
- Heart Rate Recovery (HRR), and
- Heart Rate Zones (HRZ)

These are tracked throughout training and recovery.

They will also use a range of exercises to test muscle symmetry, which are usually tested pre and post training to identify muscle fatigue and for early injury detection.

Typically, only players who hit the 90% marker would be selected to start.

EHL, forgive me if I am wrong, as sports science is not my forte. Does this focus on long duration anaerobic activity?

21 Mar 2026 14:04:42
EHL, I don't doubt what you are saying, but can I ask how you know this? Im guessing that you are still in contact with guys at the club, but should they really be blabbing this info to someone who, with all due respect to yourself, no longer works at the club.

Just curious to know. I suppose the bigger problem is the amount of players hitting markers, as you say. I mean no disrespect with the post, mate, just asking the question. ?

21 Mar 2026 14:24:01
Given that we're only playing one game a week now, that's concerning.

21 Mar 2026 14:24:22
Good info, Ehl, and why is this happening?

21 Mar 2026 14:35:14
Yately, I think this ties well with Ehl article from earlier in the week.
Shows how poorly conditioned the players are after the Martin debacle.

21 Mar 2026 14:36:02
With 1 game a week and 5 subs, it shouldn't be that much an issue. I doubt Aberdeen have 11 players past 90% as well.

21 Mar 2026 14:54:14
How do you turn that around, Ehl? Is it a case of scraping by until pre season?

Good to see you posting on the forum again, pal. Sure I've not seen you for a while.

21 Mar 2026 15:22:40
Aph, I probably don't realise how important your pre season is. ✌️

21 Mar 2026 15:29:25
I'll bet my life that our 34 year old captain James Tavernier will be one of the ones that's hit the 90% fitness marker or above. ???

21 Mar 2026 15:55:06
Correct bid dado, if players can't get through 1 game a week till end of season, then they shouldn't be pro footballers.

How did football survive without sports science?

I do believe it has a place in football, but I wouldn't rely on it 100%.

21 Mar 2026 16:16:33
Going for56, I'm guessing he still has friends at the club, and, as such, they pass on info, knowing he's a Rangers man. That's the only reasonable explanation, and I'd see it as friends sharing info rather than folk blabbing secrets.

21 Mar 2026 17:39:43
Yeah I would think that as well, Alloa. Like I say, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to EHL, was just curious.

21 Mar 2026 17:55:59
No, Goingfor56, I didn't take your post as being disrespectful. ??

21 Mar 2026 18:42:18
Cheers mate. ?
