Question to Aphelion.
If the board have maintained they will sign ASO, does this send the right message to the boy?
I assume if you know then he'll know what the plans are. Would it not be a better play to ask him to work as hard as possible then look to sign him if he does well?
Looking at his record, he could come good but isn't cutting it presently.
He's been a failure in the majority of his transfers, hasn't scored an international goal in 4 years and is now out of that squad.
Hopefully he ends up a brilliant signing but currently it's a big risk.
20 Mar 2026 16:55:51
It's a risk I wouldn't be taking unless we see a vast improvement in his remaining games. If he shows the same sort of form as he is now, I really can't see him being signed.
20 Mar 2026 17:00:06
He has played for 4 clubs prior to Rangers and has been a resounding success in 2 clubs and only really had 1 true failure.
That being said, to call into question his character is wrong on so many levels.
He is working hard, and his effort is there, with lacking confidence.
That is why he is so visibly frustrated.
He wants to play for the club and his country, and he will know his performances need to improve, but I am confident they will.
I have also been very clear in my belief from prior to him being confirmed.
The opportunity presented itself to sign him. Rangers wanted to sign, and used an initial loan to be able to spend the money in the summer.
A contract agreement has been reached in principle, and I believe the club will keep its commitment.
The option was a protection for the club against serious injury.
20 Mar 2026 17:09:54
I suppose supporting and encouraging a player out of form is too much to ask.
20 Mar 2026 17:18:50
I suppose not wasting at the very least a third of our summer budget on a player who has zero confidence and has done absolutely nothing since he's arrived, is too much to ask?
20 Mar 2026 17:21:25
How long do you support and encourage Aph?
20 Mar 2026 17:23:00
One thing that Danny has shown so far is a sense of ruthlessness when it comes to player trading.
Therefore, I can't see him signing Olsen in the summer. Same goes for Cornelius.
Both will return to parent clubs in the summer.
20 Mar 2026 17:30:52
Longer than 7 matches, Whatsmyname.
20 Mar 2026 17:34:39
So, EHL had an article the other week about how players weren't able to run for the full 90 minutes due to lack of conditioning caused by a poor pre-season for the way Danny Rohl wanted to play. Here we have a player who missed almost a season of football, so what is his conditioning like?
Perhaps the club will see this and may be basing their decision on his undoubted talent in the past.
Not itk but maybe just. Also, I am not sure we know what the price is, nor do I know that it isn't.
But like Aphe, I am willing to support the guy and give him a chance. His stats are okay even being poor, and although people don't want to accept it, players take time to settle. ?
20 Mar 2026 17:34:44
If we aren't sure, and there's no pick up in performance to take the gamble, I would be going back to renegotiate the fee or allow him to go back to Wolfsburg. I do hope he comes good, as I was buzzing for his signing when it happened.
20 Mar 2026 17:34:48
Aphelion, I have not once had a go at you. I really appreciate your posts, but your last post above is of poor judgement.
People are allowed views. Our club could be in the throes of spending a considerable amount of money on a player who might come good.
Fans are absolutely within their right to question it. Having a player who is ours and not playing at his potential is one thing.
I do think questioning a potential full time signing for a lot of money who has not hit the desired level is acceptable and allowed to be questioned.
We bought Miovski on what he did 2 years ago, and, in my opinion, is not the shadow of that player.
I absolutely value your insight, but some things can go unsaid.
20 Mar 2026 17:40:09
What if he doesn't produce in the remaining 8 Aph?
Along with his wages, we're talking the best part of £13M over 4 years.
That's a lot of support and encouragement based on faith.
20 Mar 2026 17:44:44
If he doesn't at least show something in remaining games and gets signed for all that money, then questions need to be asked.
20 Mar 2026 17:46:50
Let's be honest and frank regarding Andreas Skov Olsen here, guys. ? He's undoubtedly a talented player who's very low in confidence and hasn't kicked a ball for us yet, so to speak. That's it, guys, no lies saying that. ? We'll see where we are with Skov Olsen at the end of the season, and, for one, I was absolutely delighted when we signed him on loan, but, like everyone else, I have been so disappointed so far.
☹️ To spend £8million on him come the summer, he'll have to improve tenfold for me; otherwise, I wouldn't be paying that sort of money for him. ?
20 Mar 2026 18:02:54
Aph. I was wrong about Hately, Laudrup, and even Gaza. I think I called it wrong with Djiga too. With ASO, I think you just might be right. Give him a chance, and see if he can rediscover the form he undoubtedly possesses.
20 Mar 2026 18:04:03
I ain't happy spending money on a guy that's failed on loan to this point. I love that you back him to the hilt, Aph. But for me he would need to be a world beater in the next 8 games.
20 Mar 2026 18:09:40
I have fallen out of love with the game. He has failed, and his parent club has been very poor at the loan club. How could anybody justify throwing 8 mill at him? Would be very stupid.
20 Mar 2026 18:29:15
Same people whining will be the same people sucking his balls when he hits form. He wasn't match fit when he arrived. He's been in the door 10 mins. This is why so many players fail at Rangers, they never get any time to settle in a new country, team, and surroundings.
20 Mar 2026 18:42:54
We have the best chance of winning the league since Gerrard. We simply can't afford to carry passengers who might come good into our remaining games.
20 Mar 2026 18:44:51
R1, blunt and to the point. I love that, and what's more, you are correct 100%. ?
20 Mar 2026 18:53:07
Every player gets my backing, said before he gets more time, maybe they won't be moaning if he hits form, R1, but something needs to change with him, because that's never happened for a while.
20 Mar 2026 19:02:09
I definitely won't be sucking his balls. ?
20 Mar 2026 19:04:46
To bring a player on an option to buy who fails miserably, and then we pay £8million for him anyway, would be criminal and on a par with the mistake we made signing Cortes for £4 million. I hope Aso is great from now until the end of the season, and merits being signed, but if he continues on this form we can't possibly spend that kind of money on him.
Just like lots of clubs have done to us, we need to see it is a test run that has failed and move on.
20 Mar 2026 19:35:08
Windy, come on now, not even a little lick. ?
20 Mar 2026 19:41:23
Aso is a player who came to Rangers with an impressive CV, especially during his spell at Club Brugge.
The time to judge him might be at the end of the season, but the asking price of £8m is still a massive outlay for our club, plus his wages.
Aph, with your extensive knowledge of the Scandinavian market, are there players who play RW who we should be looking to buy?
20 Mar 2026 19:59:32
Again, the fees reported are not entirely accurate.
Copland, I will put a list of players I feel we should target, although not one would fit the traditional winger mould.
20 Mar 2026 20:51:42
Angus, he isn't 100% correct tho.
I hope he does hit form, but can't see it myself.
20 Mar 2026 22:10:40
Aphe, was it not you that said it would be 7/8 million?
20 Mar 2026 22:11:03
@R1, Well, questions need to be asked why we are buying players who aren't fit to play in a title race, yeah?
20 Mar 2026 22:12:17
Storm, his post is a critique of how fans act and not the player. That part is correct, as they do tend to blow hot or cold (not pun on ball licking intended). The part about the player is inconsequential in his post; he was using ASO as a way to raise his main point on fan fickleness.
But I don't think he will ever be the player fans expect him to be anyway.
I hope we keep him (dont believe £8m is the asking price or anywhere near it), and he has a good pre-season and shows the undoubted quality he has. But that is the optimist in me hoping for the best from our players and for the team. He is still at this moment better than he gets credit for but has a large growth area to get to where he can be. ?
20 Mar 2026 23:14:23
If we are taking a punt on Olsen, regardless of his performances so far, we might as well sign Aarons and Cornelius too, as they might come good in time as well. You just don't spend 9 million on something that, until now, hasn't been up to standard. It's like being offered the chance to pay a lot to buy a car that now has things going wrong with it, but being told "ah, but it ran perfectly 2 years ago." You wouldn't dream of buying the car now! You'd look for a car that was performing well now.
I expected Skov Olsen to tear it up, it hasn't happened, so we should move on. It's not Lionel Messi we are talking about here, there are other wingers about.
21 Mar 2026 08:08:43
Let's be honest, if Olsen plays a blinder in the last 2 games of the season to win us the league, we'll be crying out for him to stay.
