Taking from Danny Rohl's presser I'm presuming their is an offer for tav on the table. Now I may be in a minority here but I would like him to stay. With the signing of Rommens maybe can try get a like for like player as rb as 1st choice with tav as back up.

Yes thiers Aaron's also but he doesn't offer the same going forward as tav but prob better defending. People slate tav but you can't fault his goals and assists throughout each season

Davie, if you mean his presser after the cup game, I didn't get that from it. He said he would be important for the run-in, was professional, and could be relied on; also, he couldn't play every 90 mins. But I didn't take anything about another contract. However, maybe chatting about the wrong presser.

Nobody I know slates Tav's assists and goals. But everyone I know worries about his defensive frailties. And against Queens Park, he played a misplaced ball across the back line straight to the opposition, 30 yards from goal, which, in the grand scheme of things in an 8-0 win, means hee haw.

But he does this kind of thing in more important games against better opposition.
He will always split opinion - a lot of players do.

Without spending too much focus on Tav staying or going, Aarons is off. We need a RB to replace him that is our starting right back. Even then, I don't really want to be going into next season with Tav and Sterling on the books, not for the wage they absorb.

I'd expect Tav to take a drop in pay, but I wouldn't want both of them on the wage bill still. Tav's age and Sterling's injuries.

09 Feb 2026 14:13:49
For me, Tav as back up only, or not at all.
Would be a weak link next season if he is a starter in the RB position.

09 Feb 2026 14:21:02
Aaron will leave in summer and won't be back.

09 Feb 2026 14:52:16
He does have that in him, mph, but so does Souttar, Djiga and Butland. Yet people say that Butland should get cut some slack because of important saves, but Tav doesn't seem to get cut the same slack despite scoring important goals. Double standards seem to be in play when it comes to Tav.

09 Feb 2026 15:32:41
Thinks Tav has had his time, been a great servant to the club, but it works both ways, the club have been good to Tav.
Just can't see Tav wanting to be a bit part player next season.
Sure he will get offered a contract from an ambitious Championship club, which is probably the best solution all round.

If Rohl wants him to stay, surely it will be an offer with vastly reduced wages, or maybe he fancies a coaching role if there was anything available.

09 Feb 2026 16:36:47
Not disagreeing with any of that, JFM.
That's why I've said we need better than Souttar.
And as for Butland, to me, it's a mentality thing. You can have periods of doing nothing as a Rangers keeper, but still need to be ready to be called upon in a split second.
Djiga isn't our player, so not overly concerned about him long term.

So he misplaces one pass, and he is past it. He scores 3 goals, assists another couple (own goal was his corner), and that is overlooked. To then say, if he had done it against better opposition. Now, what is the saying about if my grannie had cojones.

?? You could say that the new players need to perform as they did against better opposition as a criticism of them, as they haven't so far. Hate this constant picking on Tavernier.

09 Feb 2026 19:20:36
Nah, not true, Angus.
He's been past it for a couple of seasons now, defensively. ?
And, previously to that, wasn't much better.
Even Antman was better as a temporary RB at the weekend.

09 Feb 2026 19:39:04
He's been a great servant, but his time should be up. One of the highest earners, so the wages could be split into a couple of new players.

09 Feb 2026 20:27:24
MPH, that is your opinion (possibly others). Just unlucky for you that no manager has ever thought that. Not even tried too hard to get a permanent replacement for him. The issue is how the club want him to play. Fans want a RB to just sit, managers don't seem to want that, as his strengths are in attack. Probably the best attacking FB we have had for such a long time.

So keep saying it, as it doesn't seem to be true according to the club. That is the opinion that matters. Ours is just a bit of banter on here.

I don't think Danny Rohl will re-sign Tav. I just don't see him being his type of player, if I am honest. I think he is looking for intensity and for a full back that's getting up and down the line. I just don't see Tav fitting the mould.

I have written him off multiple times in the last couple of years, but to be.

09 Feb 2026 21:44:01
Davie, I took the exact opposite from what Rohl said about Tavernier. He said we'll wait until the end of the season, and Tavernier knows that. Souttar has already been offered a contract, so why not do the same with Tavernier if he's staying?

09 Feb 2026 23:01:28
If Tav stays, it would be for backup, in my opinion. For the right wages, worth keeping.

10 Feb 2026 07:35:08
We can't keep him, time for him to move on. He has been a good servant.

10 Feb 2026 11:28:46
The club also appointed Martin.
How wrong were they, Angus?
And all those who were prepared to give him numerous transfer windows to turn it around, even though a blind man going past on a high speed train could see that Martin was out of his depth.

10 Feb 2026 12:35:44
I think the offer to Tav will be less money and less game time, and while possibly retaining the club captaincy, the team captaincy will be passed on to a more regular starter. It will be up to him if he wants to accept that, or maybe get one last move to finish his career under less pressure.
