For the people who constantly go on about players from England, They forgot about Aribo and Bassey. Who else in recent times has commanded a fee like we got for them boys. I couldn't care where they come from, what skin colour they have, what religion they are. As long as when they put on the shirt they give it there all. (rant over)

But they were bargains supernova. Rare from England.

27 Jun 2025 20:20:20
We've done very well with players from england in recent times imo. Most of them carried us to a europe league final like roofe, aribo, tav, goldson, bassey, kent and lundstrum.

People are correct thought their value can so often be inflated as well as their wages. But there's 100% value to be had down there.

27 Jun 2025 20:27:37
So far we have signed 1 player from Scotland and 1 loan deal from England.

The vast majority of the links we've seen to date are either driven by lazy journalism or agents.

As per the EGM, get ready to be surprised.

27 Jun 2025 20:29:05
Was that a rant? ??.

It's not about where they are from, it's nothing anti English or against individual players.

It's about the fact that English football is swimming in money and we are not able to compete financially with them. We cannot even compete with most clubs in the championship now, with the EPL a million miles away from where we are.

When you buy players it's always a risk, less than half work out. But when they are on high wages which the majority of English players we bring in are it makes it difficult, sometimes near impossible to move them on.

The reason we go about it is that this is the number one problem we have had as a club over the last number if years.

This is not to say we should never sign a player from England, we should monitor all markets and there is value to be found in cross border deals like Bassey and Aribo. There is a loophole that exists and we should absolutely exploit it, just as English clubs do more frequently now with Scottish youth players.

This isn't even anywhere near full list of flops from that level so for every aribo or bassey (who actually came from prem) there are 10 who didn't work. I do get what you mean but its a very hit or miss market.

Imo the players that are to good for the championship but not quite good enough for the prem are the players who are good enough for scotlands top flight but unfortunately they are all out our price range and wage range these days.

Ehl does that mean we aren't in for coady then? Please make me happy ?.

27 Jun 2025 21:20:58
Fair point Muscat but we had a hell of a lot of flops through those years. It's a market that has very little good value in but prob gives us the closest certainty to the player coping with our league. Funny no one has mentioned Tav ? maybe another day for that.

Best came we will get is signing players on a free from there, possibly one of the many players being cut from big teams.

27 Jun 2025 21:22:18
Storm i think coady will be unveiled stsrt of next week and genuinely believe he will prove a great signing.

27 Jun 2025 21:42:36
Ehl in regards too being surprised do you mean as in numbers we bring in or who they are i. e couple older with big names.

27 Jun 2025 21:51:14
Muscat.

Lammers
Cifu
Grezda
Dalcio
Senderos

This is just a small sample of the equally as bad players we have bought that are not from the uk. We also have huge sucesses like we have from england with bassey and aribo. Celtic also plucked o reilly from league 1.

27 Jun 2025 22:20:27
There is anecdotaly 10 times more chance we get a better player from Eng, however the price can be disproptainly higher so the actual value may be less, a very tricky market to navigate a bit like the Barras. In our prevois toe dips, Bassey/ Aribo V the rest. Just shows its not a lost cause. Bit like a youth programme, you only excpect 1 in 50 if lucky or so to progress to the very top. Data is where its at.

27 Jun 2025 22:34:36
Muscat I don't agree that they were all flops as you call them but how many of those went on to have good careers elsewhere. good players but who possibly didn't fit in at us. was it just because we didn't have it right in our structure and the way we played.

27 Jun 2025 22:39:37
Strom, Coady is 100% on the radar - he's one of three players that Martin has asked to be prioritised.

BTBlues, as per the EGM, the club have advised that the names they are working on aren't in the public domain and will come as a surprise when they break.

27 Jun 2025 22:41:49
Id give you waghorn and windass were actually decent and to am extent john but all left with 0 medals from top flight scottish football and to me that means they were not a success maybe flop was a bit of a strong word to use.

27 Jun 2025 23:42:42
Solid i mentioned tav.

28 Jun 2025 01:05:13
Ehl if we presume Aaron's is the first of the 3, coady is the second i can only imagine edouzi is the 3rd?

28 Jun 2025 07:07:36
Cheers ehl and ows if he does sign I'll back him 100% as that's who the manager wants.

28 Jun 2025 07:54:30
Add pena, cardoso and herrera on to that list.

28 Jun 2025 09:39:31
Muscat add in jack simpson and ofoborh ?.

28 Jun 2025 12:32:51
I'm going to fling in my opinion on English based players here.

They're mostly terrible business in the modern game for us. A player with sole English nationality playing for us isn't going to see international football while with us and therefore isn't going to command a fee.

Dual nationality players (like Aribo and Bassey) have a better opportunity playing for other international teams, which puts them on a bigger stage and gets us a better fee.

In theory, we could pick up dual nationality players who are worse ability wise than full English nationality but make more money off them.

Butland is a prime example. If he was playing first team football in another league he'd probably be called up as back up for England, but he never got the call up and his performances absolutely tanked after that and I don't really see us making much from him at all, he'll probably just wind down his contract.

28 Jun 2025 12:59:08
I think if your talking about player under 21 then fine lower wage and low risk when your talking guy over say 23 clubs have already looked and passed which means there is a far lower chance of selling these players back to that market at a high price

Aribo was an unusual case and inly came to Rangers to work with gerrard as amidfielder to learn bassey was a lucky hit and he was in the age bracket we should sign from england.
