Yo, Jimbo, I agree we should take the money for Manny if it's offered, but who would that more natural defender be, and would you trust the people who are recruiting to bring in what we needed, given their track record. Makhanya is just Fernandez 2.0, comfortable in possession but lacking in defensive awareness, and although people are raving about him, we were raving about Manny last season too.
Maybe the problem is him and Manny are too alike, and with a more solid defender alongside him he will be okay. Trouble is, the defenders we are being linked with are more of the same, younger, ball playing centre backs. Even Majid Bougherra needed Davie Weir, and he was miles better than our current two.

Leverkusen have had an eye on Fernandez since last year, after his initial rise to top scoring centre back in Europe. Eventually, he let his spot at no1 slip as the goals dried up and others in the top 10 moved up ahead of him.
