Seen online Rangers looking at bringing Tav back for a year, surely this is a windup. Chris Jack reported it. 😱🙈

11 Aug 2026 19:29:43
Chris Jack hasn't reported we want Tav back, mate. Think someone's pulling your leg.

If this or the Meghoma have any sort of truth, any hope I had of Del being able to turn things around is getting smaller and smaller.

He can only work with the tools he has and so far we've signed 10 players, 7 or 8 of them not being good enough to start, and we already know Meghoma is not good enough. While I have all the respect in the world for Tav he is past his best and if we want to move forward we need new voices!

The recruitment has been an absolute farce and if those two donkeys of Purdy and Thelwell aren't gone at the end of this window then, questions need to be asked of AC and the board.

Del said it, the fans have been patient enough. This is getting beyond a joke.

The fans have been patient enough? We're so toxic as a fanbase, many of us are writing guys off as complete failures after one game. I'm not sure I agree with that, we have been when we must make things 10 times worse for the players. The treatment of Cyriel Dessers still remains a particularly sour memory. The team was genuinely unlucky against Hibs, and we are short of players in the positions we need, which requires time. We are going to have to get that over the line, so what purpose does it serve to be utterly toxic about these guys while it is clearly a work in progress? They're not even being given a chance to turn it around by some people.

The Hibs game was very, very small margins, and that might actually not take long to rectify. It might well be a clusterf*** to match Russell Martin in two months, but it's not that yet. There are a lot of people who should be ashamed to call themselves "supporters".

11 Aug 2026 20:01:06
OhSuperBarry, that's not aimed at you, I will add, because I don't think you're calling for McInnes' head, and past recruitment has not been good enough. If Tavernier has legs to it, I will most certainly agree with you on that one, but we are most certainly not a patient fanbase.

I think we're decidedly fatalistic at this point, and I wish we'd get behind these new lads while we try to bring bodies in instead.

Good post, Mysister4Zungu. 👍

11 Aug 2026 20:04:28
OhSuperBarry,

We've signed. 7 or 8 are not good to start? Says who? Which 2 or 3 are good enough? And not all the signings we make will be nailed on starters.

Pandur good enough to start?
Makhanya - one game.
Godfrey - not good enough?

Dan Neil - made your mind up?
Dragojevic - he is good enough? Played 60 minutes!

Yokota - not good either?
Driouech - rubbish at his medical? Or he's good without seeing him in a Rangers shirt?

Shankland - made your mind up?

McCrorie and Devlin make up a squad but you've decided the above 8 ain't up too much?

It's been a poor start, we need quality in and then others can shine after a run of games.

11 Aug 2026 20:12:56
Mysister4Zungu, absolutely this.

11 Aug 2026 20:15:30
Cheers, Zungu. Want to clarify right now I am fully behind McInnes. I made a post a few days ago sharing similar thoughts to you and urging people to give him time.

What I meant by "fans have been patient enough" is the fact that it is the same cycle, rinse, repeat, year on year. We can't keep buying a team, having a poor season, then buying another team. Simply, it is not sustainable, but the recruitment at this club has been rank rotten since Gerrard left.

I do agree with you that there's a loud minority of fans that dog pile the manager and team very early on in a season with a poor start, but honestly, can you really blame them when this is the 4th bad start to a season in a row?

The frustration of us all stems from years of let downs and false promises. While I'm not going to defend the toxicity of some fans, what I will say is, I absolutely understand it.

Thelwell Jr & Purdy getting all sorts of stick for little reason.

Agreed to sign Diawara, would've been an excellent signing until AC Milan jumped in the last minute. Signed Drago before a few other bigger clubs got in there before we did, convinced Driouech to reject a couple of clubs to sign for us.

They get stick because it's fashionable. Meghoma or Penrice would've been fine for a backup, Penrice was at the airport last night, flying over here before AEK told him and his agent that another club were in for them and demanded another £1.5m from us for him. We rightfully pulled out.

11 Aug 2026 20:22:46
Hi OlegsPerm, I probably shouldn't have worded that as a statement as it is just my opinion lol.

I like what I've seen from Pandur.
Godfrey, I'd say, is currently our best CB and he is out injured.
Drago - very early on, but looks okay, just don't think he's ready for regular game time at his age.
Makhanya is a squad option.

Yokota looks bright so far.
Dan Neil, so far, has looked like Rothwell in disguise.
Shankland will come good but needs service.
Devlin is a solid ball winning midfielder, but again squad option that I can see being in and out of the team.

As I said though, just my opinion, and as you said, very early days.

I hope they prove me wrong!

11 Aug 2026 20:28:50
Am I the only one who thinks Meghoma as a backup is a really good option?

11 Aug 2026 20:33:17
While I don't rate our recruitment team, do we really believe that they bring in the players without McInnes saying yes or no? If that's true, he's not much of a manager. He is as culpable as any for the poor signings, Devlin is certainly his, and probably McCrorie too, and he will have signed off on the rest.

11 Aug 2026 20:33:39
I can completely understand the underlying emotion behind the current gloom and negativity of many on this forum.

No one can feel happy right now, but I can't see the logic behind most of it after a week and a half of serious football with a new manager and a squad in total flux with players just getting to know each other.

Putting aside the rumour mill of who we might be getting, all of the players that we have brought in this summer have rational reasons as to why we brought them in.

Even McCrorie.

I remember the general disappointment among many on here when it was rumoured that Dan Neil was being stolen from under our noses by Southhampton.

Jack Butland was done, Tav was reduced to the occasional free kick and in-swinging corner, and John Souttar wanted to hold an offside line around the 6 yard box, and we all know our midfield has been in need of major surgery for some time.

11 Aug 2026 20:38:03
R1, nope.

11 Aug 2026 20:56:03
CoplandFront, while I agree to not being held to ransom by AEK, I assume that would be a permanent move. What are we going to be paying Brentford to develop their player with no option to buy? Or the option will be massively inflated anyway.

Meghoma doesn't defend very well, I think Penrice would have been a better fit. Seems odd to revert to last year's men who weren't good enough.

11 Aug 2026 21:05:42
Why is Drago not ready for regular game time? We are far from the place of putting that money out on a player who is not, especially in a huge turnover. If he's fit he should be starting. Could see the point if we had a settled midfield (ageing) who have been picking up titles, but we are nowhere near it.

11 Aug 2026 21:55:45
Drago is ready to play absolutely, to suggest otherwise is madness.

He looks some player.

11 Aug 2026 22:21:54
I think bits a mixture of both views above, Tav, no thanks, Megoma for me good enough.

Fans have been patient enough, speaking for myself, I have. Sick of the failure now.

That was at the end of last season.
The season I give Del my full backing, and he needs time and players in, and by October I hope to see improvement.

But we do need improvement.

11 Aug 2026 22:28:30
Let's see where we are and style of football come Christmas. I'm not happy with how the recruitment has gone between this year and last, especially with the amount of loans that have come back and hurt us this year. But I think we have signed about 10 players for about £10-£13m whereas across the city they bought one for £11m, quality over quantity.

We all knew the areas that we needed strengthened even before the season was over, yet it's still not been addressed whether that's the recruitment team's fault or just selling clubs moving the goalposts, we'll never know. But time will tell.

11 Aug 2026 22:47:51
Cheers, OhSuperBarry, I'm glad you didn't see that as me taking aim at you. I don't think we're hugely far apart there at all. I really don't want to see Tavernier back, I've seen one post on Reddit that has him like a combination of Cafu as a right back, Gough as a captain and Haaland as an attacking threat that simply must come back. I was personally glad to see him go, and I say that respectfully, but his time was up.

I actually liked some of what I saw on Sunday. A few key additions and a bit of time to gel, along with some confidence, and I think we'll be alright. It might not be this season, but if you look back at the last time we won it then it wasn't the first season either. Acting like total doom merchants is not the answer.

11 Aug 2026 23:38:45
Meghoma isn't good enough, he looked list half the time. We must have better options, surely.
