I little update on the cerny situation lead to believe this also sadly won't happen not that he didn't enjoy his life at Rangers, it was more his time in Glasgow he didn't like weather and his family also didn't enjoy the Scottish lifestyle

15 Jun 2026 11:29:53
I find it hard to believe that someone who's spent his full career in Holland and Germany wouldn't want to go somewhere due to the weather. If he doesn't come, will be cause we don't pay him enough ££s.

15 Jun 2026 12:06:28
Also, the money for a 29 year old winger along with high wages probably rules him out.

15 Jun 2026 12:08:30
Why is it that the weather is a lot better in Holland and Germany, and he didn't want to stay at Rangers or Glasgow, so isn't that hard to believe? We're clutching at straws with past players who did a good job for us.

He didn't want to stay with us, he wanted a better lifestyle, so why should we welcome them back? Not that it will happen anyway.

15 Jun 2026 13:05:54
I don't blame him, it's depressing at times living in this climate.

15 Jun 2026 13:08:34
We have said we need experience, people who know the league and quality on the right, but we won't sign Cerny again because he is 29 and might want big wages, so where are we getting players with these qualities?

15 Jun 2026 13:51:28
Cavanagh came out and said we choose not to go down the Cerny route due to his age did he not? Maybe I'm mistaken but I'm sure he said similar or Thelwell did at a fan advisory board.

15 Jun 2026 13:16:27
Cerny would be a top signing, he has experienced our league and what playing for Rangers means.

15 Jun 2026 13:32:28
Keith Jackson saying there is something in the links, but this is one, like Ferguson, I don't think will happen. I expect us to go for someone mid to early 20's, like a Joe Gelhardt. Derek McInnes, 7 months ago on Open Goal, did an interview saying he likes left footers on the right and right footers on the left, so I wouldn't be shocked if there was legs in the Cerny rumour, but just one I don't think we'll do.

Happy to be wrong though, as loved him at us.

15 Jun 2026 14:32:12
Wishy, he did. A 4 yr deal, including his transfer fee and salary, was a £9million commitment or something along those lines, maybe more. He's 29. He had a good spell with us after a ropey start, but I wouldn't be spending that money on someone with no to little resale value. I believe we can find someone who can provide his numbers for much less.

15 Jun 2026 14:38:33
So, let's just sign up and coming players that we'll make money from, just throw experienced players in the bucket, Iron.

15 Jun 2026 14:50:59
Iron, do you want to become the Dortmund or Brighton of Scotland or do you want to get back to winning titles? We need both. Sometimes a couple of experienced signings are needed. They make their money back in other ways, ie Europe, who Cerny excelled in for us, or getting us higher league positions, which then makes us money.

15 Jun 2026 15:11:34
Iron, who do you think we can get that will return same figures as Gerny for much less.
Just interested to see who you have in mind.

15 Jun 2026 16:18:11
Jasp, answer to your question is already on our books, and his name is Finlay Curtis.

15 Jun 2026 16:33:28
I see the sense in only signing players we can sell on at profit, but we also need to bring in experience. Cerny, for me, would be a great signing and if he sees it a three or four year contract, we will have seen the best of him. Hope we can get him signed up.

15 Jun 2026 16:40:22
At 29, Cerny isn't what we need imo. Thought he was decent, but we need to be buying players with potential sell on value.

15 Jun 2026 16:46:08
If you can point to me where I said anything similar to what you've suggested, My Star?

I believe we can find someone who will cost less. That in no way means he's got to be up and coming? Honestly.

15 Jun 2026 16:47:26
Gms, we signed for potential last year and look where it got us. We need players who walk into the squad, and Cerny does that. If he comes in and helps win trophies, he pays his fee back easily.

15 Jun 2026 16:57:06
Jasp, how about we give Findlay Curtis a chance? How about our scouting dept and recruitment team scout the world for a 23/24 yr old with similar numbers? Hearts got Alexandros Kyziridis on a free off the back of a season in Slovakia where he got 15 goals and 4 assists. Do I believe he could reproduce those numbers at Rangers? Absolutely I do. Now I'm not suggesting we buy him, but my 1st port of call is to try and find someone at 23/24 who's not up and coming at that age and sign them rather than make a 9 million quid plus commitment for a guy at 29.

Now, if Cerny's transfer fee is less than what Besiktas paid, and his salary demands have dropped, and it's a 4/5 million commitment, I could be persuaded, but are we to believe only Cerny can do a job for us there? We can't find anyone else?

15 Jun 2026 17:00:10
Need a mixture, we have a lot of projects already, and I'd wager at least 50% of players we sign will be projects this summer, so you absolutely need experience, and Cerny fits the bill perfectly. I'd bite your hand off to get him back.

15 Jun 2026 17:01:25
Iron, will he bring more goal contributions? Cerny would be a top signing for us.

15 Jun 2026 17:09:07
My Star, is it a fair assumption another winger could bring more goal contributions, either through scoring or assisting, or can only he do it?

15 Jun 2026 17:19:21
I think Curtis will get a chance on the left. We still need a RW.

15 Jun 2026 17:27:12
Only rw that has had that many goal contributions for Rangers in the last decade, probably even longer, Iron, so let's take a chance on someone like Olsen, bigger fee and bigger salary, we know what Cerny is all about without taking any chances.

15 Jun 2026 17:34:38
I agree, Wishy, we probably need 2! Definitely 1 and maybe someone who can play either side. I'm not doubting Cerny's ability. I think he's a good player, but I also think we can find someone cheaper with similar numbers. You'd think he'd want a 4 yr deal? He'd, I think, want more than 20k a week, and 4 years at 20k per week is close to 4 million.

You've then got a transfer fee and bonuses etc. I think he's too expensive. The club thought that also. I doubt that's changed, mate.

15 Jun 2026 17:41:35
I've not suggested at any time we should've taken or take a chance on Olsen. I wouldn't have taken Olsen in January on the back of it's a quick, physical league and he'd hardly kicked a ball and had been injured. I was not surprised in the slightest he struggled. Cerny is a good player but he's not the only player out there who can get you 10-15 goals and 10 assists.

I just don't believe that. He was too expensive last year, went to chase the money in Turkey and the Club will still think he's too expensive this year if they have any interest which I doubt.

15 Jun 2026 17:58:24
Iron, We have never had that type of player for a very long time, mate.
I would like Maswanhise, don't know what he'd cost or what salary he'd be after, I've been wanting him for ages, but a choice between them, it's Cerny.

15 Jun 2026 19:24:38
I wouldn't be bending over backwards for Cerny either, Iron, but if the deal was right for us I would be all over it. He maybe wants to go back to somewhere he enjoyed playing, not everyone has good experiences in Turkey.

16 Jun 2026 01:23:54
Mystar, give it a rest, you moan at folk for not wanting a project, then you moan at people for not wanting more champ players that others don't want, and then you moan at folk that don't want players Rangers can't make money on.

Make up your mind.

Also, the people in charge are here to make money, if you didn't know.

I like Cerny also, but are we really saying there are no players out there as good as Cerny, who didn't even make the Czech squad by the way and has patch injuries which usually get worse with age.

16 Jun 2026 01:24:34
Guy was only giving his opinion and you're being passive aggressive. Get a grip.

16 Jun 2026 07:01:16
I would sign Cerny if we can, as we need players we know can come into Rangers and do it right away. ? A good mixture of experience and younger players absolutely for me. ???
