Wullie, a was in Ibrox the other day & his pictures have been taken down at Butlands request as he wants to take them with him. A did ask specifically about Butland based on your info and was told he's away & won't be missed

Agreed, I believe he is away. He has been good for us, but as with a lot of positions we need better. Who does everyone think will replace Butland? Most, I'm sure, want Charles, but any takers for Ernst?

Butland was fantastic during his first season. He was even being considered for the England squad. After that season ended, we should have cashed in on him then because this club could've made millions. But, in typical Rangers fashion, we didn't, and will be lucky to make anything from his sale. We have a nasty habit of holding on to players until their value crashes close to zero. Then we try and sell.
For me, Butland is a complete liability at this point and his stats indicate he was one of the worst shot stoppers in the league during that title run-in.
It's reminiscent of Allan McGregor's last season. The fall off has been tremendous and he needs to go. I don't even care about his distribution. He isn't the shot stopper he used to be anymore.
What I've written here sounds harsh. I actually like the guy as a person and when he was on top of his game he was fantastic. But he's not the same player anymore.

I've never been a fan of Butland, for both personal and professional reasons, so will be happy when we have a new number 1.
That said, Butland was 3rd overall for shot stopping in the league and his stats have remained relatively consistent over his time with us.

Below are all very good goalkeepers who are free agents in the summer, but we could also offer L. Kelly the number 1 jersey. But, think my choice would be Stefan Ortega unless we want to get in a bidding war for the young goalkeeper from Sheffield Wednesday.

Butland had that one great season, but has only ever been a good shot stopper. Talk of England was nonsense. The rest of his game is actually really poor. Handling, positioning, crossing, distribution, communication, control of the area are all seriously lacking, and do nothing to help his defence in front of him.
Was just a high profile name. Honestly don't see him as being hard to replace.

For me he was ok, but never up to the same standards we have enjoyed with our keepers. His kick outs were atrocious, to be honest, and I panicked every time he had a ball at his feet and saw an attacker running towards him.
He would be a decent no 2 but not on his wages.

Ortega would be an absolute no brainer for me, league winning experience and a very good goal keeper with excellent distribution, typically plays on a high line as well, which would surely assist our press - need EHLs input on this.
I'm back in love with the post-season rumours and excitement of what could be!

I agree Forza, putting away the Rohl debates now. It's exciting just seeing the talk of clearing out players, let alone wondering who's coming in. Most of the rumours will not happen, but that's part of what I love on this site.

Rholwithcheese, the only time Butland and England were in the same sentence was on this forum! Which was nuts! If he was ever that good he wouldn't be playing up here after years as an understudy down south.

Ehl, I was told as far back as when we signed Gassama by someone who works for Rangers that it's all about Butland, and he's quite an arrogant person. ? He was questioning why Gassama had pictures put up of his goal he scored in Europe for us, stating he shouldn't have that adulation, as he pointed out Gassama was just in the door.
? Jealousy or what, and like I said, he's arrogant. ?

Bar72, It was all over English media at the time too, mate. Probably because McCoist is everywhere, and Boyd is on regularly, but it certainly was being put about for a call up.

For a big lad, JB doesn't really own or boss the six yard area, and at times he looks as if his feet are on the wrong legs - am sure there is equal or better out there, so not too worried if he moves on this coming season. ? ?

Ortega and Meslier are terrible keepers. There is a reason Meslier is now third choice at Leeds. Darlow is first choice at Leeds so we won't get him. Not sure about Woodman.
Gunn is awful, chocolate wrists and hopeless with the ball at his feet.
Anybody know, has Kelly signed a new deal? If not, I would suspect he is away as well.
