We're very interested in a loan to buy for Josh Doig as competition for Rommens and an additional Scottish option for the European quota.

03 May 2026 19:27:26
I very much doubt this.

I think we'll need to sign 2 right backs and 1 left back in the close season, but I also can't see it being Josh Doig Bear ? Doig would want to go to a club that he's first choice, mate. ?

We ain't bringing Doig to play 2nd fiddle, although if Rommens continues picking up knocks, keeping him out for weeks at a time, we will need another Lb.

03 May 2026 20:34:42
Penrice, perhaps a better candidate for the LB back up. Doig seems happy with life in Italy.

04 May 2026 00:00:05
Doig would cost at least 5m euros, maybe 6m. I can't see that happening unless swap for Bajrami plus cash, but then not as back up.

Surely we are looking at other options as Rommens is our no1 LB option.
To those, itk, is there an LB who is currently at the club ready to move into the first team?
Think, as a club, we are too quick to release young players, with Robbie Fraser and Ross McCrorie being two examples.

I keep saying it. Ross McCrorie was never getting in Gerrard's teams so he was sold. The fact that people are talking about him being a good signing just shows how far this squad has dropped in quality since then.

I didn't see enough of young Fraser in the first team to see what he could do, and that was probably a mistake. Getting rid of 3 left backs in a matter of weeks in the summer certainly was.

04 May 2026 13:29:41
McCrorie was probably 20 or 21 when we loaned him out to Portsmouth and then Aberdeen.

True, he may not have been good enough then, but he may have developed as a player over the last 7 or 8 seasons.

Personally I'd be delighted if we could bring him back.

He knows the club, he knows the league, he can play a number of positions, he has the type of mentality that we are sadly lacking, and he's also a very good footballer.

Wsl, look at some of the players who did get in Gerrard's teams, and where they are now. Some footballers progress and some regress. Absolutely sick of using Steven Gerrard as the benchmark for this club, because if he's the benchmark, then we should all expect one trophy every 3 years before the manager buggers off in the middle of the night.

Here, here, EHL, well said.

I remember McCrorie's first Old Firm. Played CB, won man of the match, was outstanding that day for such a young lad. I had high hopes for him & McKenna (Dons) becoming a regular CB pairing for Scotland, but it went a bitty wayward.

I still think letting him go was a mistake. He plays a few positions & would have been a very handy squad player, if not 1st team player, depending on how he developed with us.

Both McCrorie lads could do a job for us next season. However, I suspect they won't return to Scotland.
