Apparently we've been looking at Dundee Luke Graham big Centre Back 22 years old
and Luca Stephenson from Liverpool who is on loan at Dundee United

I've always been impressed with Luke Graham whenever I've seen him (I think he's been discussed in here before as a potential option).
Luca Stephenson hasn't stood out to me for any positive reasons when I've watched DU, but I'm certain there are others who can provide better insight into both players.

Use Pool charge too much for all their young players. I wouldn't buy from Liverpool easily.

I really hope we get Luke Graham. A great young prospect.
In a perfect world we would have gotten rid of Souttar and just replaced him with Luke Graham. That new contract for Souttar seems like a massive error.

John Souttar, for me, absolutely still got a part to play at Rangers. ? We just don't throw him on the scrap heap because we're very interested in signing Luke Graham, who, incidentally, to what I've seen of him, looks a good young centre half. ? ??

I don't think he's ready to be a starter for Rangers but has potential. Could be a good squad player for us with a view to taking over from Souttar.
Also means we would get some cash for Souttar rather than leave for free if he was to leave.

Now Keith Jackson from the DR reporting that a deal for Rangers to sign Dundee young left centre half Luke Graham is at a very advanced stage. ? ?? We seem to have preferred to sign Graham as opposed to Jack Milne, the Aberdeen centre half we were allegedly interested in signing. ?

Agree that Luke Graham looks a good player, but I think that there's a big difference between having to defend for 90 minutes and concentrating for 90, sorry.

John Souttar is going through a bad spell. He will come good again. Not been the same since his injury, and rightly drooped. I have a felling he's not 100 percent yet.

SWS, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments on Souttar. Right now I think Graham seems to have a bit more about him than Milne, but I've been wrong before - a thousand times!
30 Mar 2026 07:37:44
Rfc22, not been the same since which injury? The one at Hearts? Or one of his many others? Because he's never been that good for us.

Luke Graham is a lh sided ch, Souttar is primarily a rh sided ch who we have played as a left sided when short due to injury.
At present our club only has two chs, Fernandes and Souttar, the second is not first pick.
It's unlikely Rangers will pursue Cornelius at 4 million pounds, simply too much for an injury prone player who shows more interest in Canada.
Imo we need another rh ch as Djiga will return to Wolves.
Signing Graham is good business at around two million as we will sell Fernandes in the future.
Succession planning actually part of our thoughts.
Remember Souttar has a 12 month deal, with possible extension based on appearances.

Souttar isn't going through a bad stage, he has always been a poor Ch, with the odd good game here and there. He should never have been given another contract, especially on more money.
30 Mar 2026 13:22:54
We will need replacements in central defence, whether Fernandez stays and we keep Djiga or not. Having a young up and coming Scottish player to develop has to be a good idea. I'm not a fan of Souttar, but he can play better than he has done the last few weeks, so giving him a new deal isn't an issue.
It means that we could get some money for him if he leaves and it's only a year so we can free him next summer if he is not performing and we can't sell him. It's no big deal in my opinion.
30 Mar 2026 13:28:50
He has, though, Strom, because he's Scottish. Understanding your point.
I think he's better than you suggest, but not much. Souttar is at his best when we have backs to wall and he needs to be instinctive. Time given, he makes errors and takes risks that he rarely pulls off.
With short pickings, signing Graham makes sense.

Everyone thought Fernandez wasn't ready for the first team, never mind starting, and look at him now.
Sometimes you cannot judge a player until they are given the chance.
Can't compare playing for Falkirk, Dundee or Dons to playing for Rangers, so if the player is cheap enough then it's always worth the risk, I think.
Some guys thrive, others (mostly from downside) buckle.
