Anyone picking up anything regarding tav possibly moving into a coaching roll while still retaining player status?

04 Jan 2026 17:00:49
Hope not.

04 Jan 2026 17:08:28
As a set piece coach maybe, can't think of any other coaching role that works for him?

04 Jan 2026 17:14:12
Why would you not want Tav staying on exactly? In a coaching role.

04 Jan 2026 17:19:32
It's like having a Bobby Charlton on yer heed, you've had yer time with it but it's slowly been diminishing, had a good run with it but it's down to a few wisps now, getting a bit ridiculous and time for a Kojak and a whole new chapter.

04 Jan 2026 17:25:03
What is to suggest he'd be a good coach? He's been a great player for us but his time is done and unfortunately has been part of a pretty dreadful leadership group and questionable as a captain. Let's just try and win this league and give him a good send off and move on.

04 Jan 2026 17:33:32
Tav's days as a Rangers player are numbered.

04 Jan 2026 17:41:29
I really hope this isn't true, I'd hope the club see sense and just let him leave. He really isn't offering anything on the pitch and as many on here will state, he isn't an actual leader so I don't get this one bit.

04 Jan 2026 17:57:22
Gdog has he got any qualifications for it?
And he ain't good enough to be kept as a player either.

04 Jan 2026 17:59:28
Gdog because he has not demonstrated any skills for that roleb.

04 Jan 2026 18:19:07
Gdog incase you haven't noticed tav has been saying for years we need to learn from our mistakes, never seemed to learn himself right enough, is that really coach material? He's not covered himself in glory as a Rangers captain, doesn't seem like a motivational speaker, we don't even know if he can coach.

I'll put it back to you, why should he be a coach at Rangers? Just like you might want him, storm doesn't and neither do I, for the above reasons.

04 Jan 2026 18:23:13
Stop this old sentimental attitude. Tav has done well but we must move on.

04 Jan 2026 18:31:37
Personally he is not remotely qualified for any coaching role. I am unaware of him even having lowest level coaching qualifications.

I would also like to see a complete break from the group to allow for a full renewal and refresh of the leadership group.

04 Jan 2026 19:29:11
I remember not long ago everyone was buzzing for the backroom staff of Davis and Defoe with Gerrard as if they've done anything outside of Rangers and playing to get in.

Would I have Tav as a first team coach? No, maybe help the youngsters. If Rohl wants him in that role and sees value in it then so be it cause they wouldn't offer Tav if Rohl didn't want it. I think he'll retire at the end of the season.

04 Jan 2026 19:35:22
A family member of mine works in UK real estate development and Tav has quietly been building up quite a property portfolio. I'm led to believe that he won't be offered a new contract. He might possibly go to Saudi for a year then retire. My family member has sold two properties to his business in the last couple of years, but I was told that he has properties down in England where his brother lives also.

I think he's a partner in the company also, but I don't know. Tavs time with RFC should be ending shortly. His wages could pay for three more additions. Thanks, but move on.

04 Jan 2026 19:48:40
A little different from Davis and Defoe DJB as both were involved in coaching and as leaders. While here Defoe developed a great relationship with younger players and throughout the squad was helping already which is why Gio offered him a position as he saw his influence.

Some have a coaching leadership mentality long before their legs go. I don't get that impression with Tav. Can't give him a coaching role just because he's been here for years.

04 Jan 2026 19:50:08
I'm sure there is a couple of posters on here who know like myself that it would be best for the relationship between both player and club to cease come the end of the season.

Not always the best influence on the group setting in the various situations we have been in over his time at the club is how I would best put it but leave it at that.

04 Jan 2026 20:35:39
Only seen a few people on here say Tav isn't the best influence yet none of you ever go into it, its always a if you know you know.

Only one of his teammates have said anything bad and that was Joey Barton which i think speaks volumes about Tav more than anything else.

04 Jan 2026 20:41:14
I think it's time Tavernier's influence was removed from the club.

Thanks for the contribution. Now it's time to go.

04 Jan 2026 20:42:29
Hes a record breaker!

04 Jan 2026 22:39:47
It does also say retaining player status a couple of folk have missed this don't want him any where near Ibrox after this season he should have left two years ago so I want him gone in the summer.

He has showing me nothing to suggest he would be a good coach with all that we will learn from it he has been saying that for 10 fecking years now.
He has been a good servant but his time is up.

04 Jan 2026 21:49:08
Tavernier will likely sign a 1-year extension on heavily reduced terms as a squad player. Believe that's the offer on the table + his testimonial etc. His kids and wife are settled in Scotland having been here almost 11 years.

From what I know, he is great around every aspect of the club. Attends women's games, girls games, youth games, youth training sessions, meets most/all new signings at the stadium when they are getting presented, organises a lot of the charity work etc.

The idea he is a bad influence is complete nonsense. Everyone, including the manager, at the club wouldn't have an issue if he was here for another year.

04 Jan 2026 21:54:51
If Barron is to keep taking corners and free kicks some old guy in row Z or a car park attendant is going to get a sore one, so maybe Tav can coach him, Chermiti looks handy with cross balls but it would be a helluva job for him to also get on the end of them. though he is quick.

04 Jan 2026 21:59:43
No one knows, he might actually be a great coach (not necessarily a future manager).

If he was to sign a player/coaching contract on reduced terms, then I don't see any issue with that. I'd imagine that DR thinks he would add value to that type of role.

04 Jan 2026 22:36:20
He is probably going to do coaching and get his badges with us might be with the youth this is common with ex players does not mean he will be coaching the first team.

05 Jan 2026 07:35:20
Certainly wouldn't be as a defensive coach.

05 Jan 2026 07:48:10
Albert I've never heard about him being a bad influence either or he wouldn't have stayed captain so long. But don't see him as a coach either. Those things u describe sound more like a club ambassador role would suit more than coaching.

05 Jan 2026 09:00:46
If the club offer him such a role then it suggests they will support his development as a coach. So all the BS about not being qualified is pointless. His type of experience isn't readily available to clubs like ours.

But here we are chastising one of our own. A record holder nonetheless! Great support lads great! ????????

It's any wonder some of our players struggle with support like us! Pathetic, narrow minded and incapable of seeing the bigger picture.

05 Jan 2026 10:48:07
Must have the thickest skin in football, Tav. A great servant to our club through some pretty rubbish times/teams and even now still one of our leading scorers this season with no legs and a reduced role. Would love it if he goes out on a league win minimum this year.

05 Jan 2026 12:16:50
Cp for 1.75 million a year we would have a thick skin mate.

05 Jan 2026 12:38:32
Well said CP175.
Every single manager we've had continued to play him. He's always available so maybe he could be fitness coach?
He's been a great servant and unbelievable numbers for a full back is not in question. Give him his testimonial. I like how Rohl is handling it, not a guaranteed starter but still a valuable member of squad. i'd say that the not winning much tag has more to do with a mix between a very strong Celtic at times, a few defensive crisises at others, Morelos getting sent off every other week and lundstrum Kent goldson and barisic switching off halfway through the season.

Tav is not without fault and you can see he's lost a yard or too but I believe he's a good servant to the club.
