Reported an hour ago that Rangers have had a bid for James Penrice rejected.
03 Jan 2026 07:50:56
Here comes us going to pay too much again.
03 Jan 2026 08:52:43
The first bid is almost always rejected. He'll be here.
03 Jan 2026 09:09:01
John, Asa, EHL - what's your opinions on Penrice? I'm simply asking as I don't know much about the lad at all.
03 Jan 2026 09:43:00
Did he not cost £2m?
03 Jan 2026 10:19:31
Baxter he is a seasoned honest professional, will be a good squad player but we need to sign a first choice in summer.
Tuur Rommens appears to be the clubs target.
03 Jan 2026 10:19:32
Good player is Penrice. Solid LB with a great delivery ?.
03 Jan 2026 10:24:53
I'd imagine AEK Athens will be wanting at least their £2million back, that they paid Hearts to sign james penrice ?The good news imo it doesn't seem to be a loan deal regarding trying to sign penrice and looks like a permanent deal we're wanting regarding signing penrice, which tbh i prefer ??? I honestly hope we sign him and think we will ?.
03 Jan 2026 10:36:55
So if he were to sign for Rangers, then he wouldn't be 1st choice ?
03 Jan 2026 10:50:10
He may well fight to be picked ahead of Meghoma for the last 6 months but the club will be looking for a first choice left back in the summer.
03 Jan 2026 10:52:22
If he signs he's likely going to be 2nd choice but he'll have every opportunity to make himself first choice like every other player.
03 Jan 2026 10:55:26
Penrice for me is good enough to be first choice LB. We've not really had anyone of real quality since Barisic and Bassey and he knows our game.
03 Jan 2026 11:03:49
Meghoma we should be going all in for, saying that maybe they don't want to sell him, Meghoma and Penrice would be perfect.
03 Jan 2026 11:18:06
2.3 Mill Euros he cost AEK - who are currently top of the Greek league with PAOK and Olympiacos breathing down their necks,
they only have 2 LBs in their 1st team squad with Penrice their 1st choice LB, just signed roughly 6 months ago.
perhaps they want around 3 to 3.5 mill euros for it to be worth their while.
We could get the young lad from Belgium Tuur Rommens for around 1.5 to 2 mill if we want him now or wait another 6 months and sign him on a pre.
Maybe that's the plan get Penrice now and once Meghoma's gone back to the EPL, Rommens arrives on a free?
03 Jan 2026 11:30:00
says in most of the press it is a loan we are looking at. that seems sensible as he knows the league and can provide that stop gap cover for left back until we get our longer term signings in summer.
03 Jan 2026 11:35:06
Forever what are you on about do you expect clubs just accept our first bid?
03 Jan 2026 11:38:55
Baxterboy, if we sign james penrice on a permanent deal then i have absolutely no doubt he will be first choice left back from next season onwards and probably even once he settles back in to being back in the Scottish league ?.
03 Jan 2026 11:59:17
If we sign Penrice, and I hope we do, I would imagine he's being signed as our 1st choice LB.
Personally I think he's more than good enough to be our main LB for next 3-4 years, which is the kind of stability we need.
03 Jan 2026 12:02:46
Penrice isn't AEK's first choice left back. Him and family have struggled since moving to Greece.
03 Jan 2026 12:05:53
Rommens contract expires June 2027. We'd be waiting a lot more than 6 months to sign him on a pre contract.
03 Jan 2026 12:13:51
Sws I really like Penrice but better with be signed mate, outstanding back up, we should be all over Meghoma if possible.
03 Jan 2026 12:16:28
I've just read an article that even if Rangers double their offer for james penrice, AEK Athens have absolutely no interest in selling him ☹️We may have to leave this one to the summer ☹️.
03 Jan 2026 12:25:30
Baxter boy does nothing for me.
03 Jan 2026 16:27:08
Absolutely EHL ?james penrice absolutely more than good enough to be our no.1 left back ???.
03 Jan 2026 16:45:14
Meghoma is a liability. Sorry don't see the player some rave about. Light weight, lacks awareness. Offers very little.
03 Jan 2026 17:16:32
Broste is only 19 and improving all the time, can't see his club letting him go either.
03 Jan 2026 17:56:12
Nbtoste, sorry but I don't see him as a liability. Very young but seems to be getting better under Rohl.
03 Jan 2026 18:06:58
Not for me. Doesn't matter age / what he'll become … we need a reliable option at LB and he is is not the answer. A bit like ridvan winkle unable to defend the back post.
04 Jan 2026 06:55:22
Meghoma absolutely not a liability for me as i like this young left back ?I think he'll go on continually improve and carve out a very good football career for himself ?.
04 Jan 2026 11:28:18
I would play Nsiala as LB over Meghoma, more defensive awareness, left footed and a superb passer of the ball, much stronger and faster than Meghoma, and another big lad in the box for set pieces along with Fernandez, Souttar, Chermiti, would be a handful for oppostion defences to deal with.
But i would also bring Cortes and Cifuentes back, but that's just me.
04 Jan 2026 12:14:13
Glad of that tbh hope they put the blockers up. We need better in most positions and he's no better than Meghoma imo.
04 Jan 2026 12:22:15
My point is its reported that he is homesick and they have an unhappy player on thisr hands ao it not like he's a big success for them only rangera seem to pay way more than club paid when not successful just like cortes he failed in france and we paid more than we should have.
And similar but in reverse with cantwell we got him with 6months left on deal but paid nearly 1.5million he was under contract for longer with us and plated well but somehow we sell him for way less why because he was unhappy.
Dont know how you can't see the point i'm trying to make storm
Look if you really want him max i'd be offering them is their money back.
