Sir Walter, sorry mate missed your earlier question of: "Once Derek McInnes' time is finished as Rangers manager, would you think / want Barry Ferguson, with the right backroom team behind him, should / could be the Rangers manager? ".
I think there's a chance he potentially could do a good job surrounded by the right people as you say and he certainly wouldn't have done any worse than Russell Martin. I'm not sure we'd have been in the title race come the split either, mind you. I wouldn't be against it but I personally think McInnes gives everything Ferguson does plus experience on top.
In case you didn't watch the recent Barry Ferguson interview:

Barry would have to go and manage somewhere in the meantime and build experience and prove himself a bit. Just my opinion.
26 Aug 2026 11:45:45
I think given the time Barry would have been a good manager for us. 🇬🇧
26 Aug 2026 12:11:02
Barry isn't a good manager, I don't think he ever will be. It's because he is Barry Ferguson that people will still go on about him.

Maybe if Fergie brought in an experienced number 2, that knew the game well, similar to when Souness brought in Sir Walter. Even looking at Michael Carrick at Man United and his experienced number 2.
I think then maybe Fergie would bring success, but until then we just need to give our full backing to Derek and his team.

I could be a top quality manager if you gave me the right staff, but then is it me being a top quality manager or the staff being top quality? Ferguson had a chance & made us worse than under Clement, 40% win rate, I think.

We were already bad, and he never got a chance with his own team, so will never know. He did get us to Euro quarter finals tho.
26 Aug 2026 12:59:36
Deary me, we have fallen far. He was terrible when he came in, and no matter who was his number 2, he wouldn't be a success. He needs to go elsewhere and prove himself before he could even be considered again.
26 Aug 2026 13:10:27
He certainly wasn't worse than some managers we have brought in with big reputations. Also, being judged managing someone else's squad. Not saying Barry was or will be the answer, but I think he gets some undue abuse from some.
26 Aug 2026 13:22:34
To be fair on him, we actually could see what team were doing in games compared to others who have been in dugout.

I think when McInnes goes, there will be a realisation it takes more than being an ex player to be a great manager for our club, they all get more goodwill and time but ultimately, more often than not, it has ended in failure.
I don't think there is any chance of Ferguson managing Rangers again unless McInnes were to be sacked this season and a stop gap is needed again. To be fair though, I am not sure Ferguson would accept that role again.
26 Aug 2026 13:49:50
He wasn't terrible. 3x Belgian champion couldn't get a tune out the squad, and Barry managed to galvanise them to beat Celtic at Parkhead, go past Mourinho and Fenerbahce, and almost past Bilbao.
He wasn't perfect, but he definitely wasn't terrible.
I agree, he would need to go do what McCann has done and build a reputation elsewhere before any future shots at the job.

What has Barry Ferguson done in management to suggest he could be Rangers manager? Absolutely nothing.
26 Aug 2026 14:56:16
Fergie was giving most teams a 2-0 head start. Aw, he got them up for big games, so he bloody well should, there big games. Clement also had the better of Celtic before he got sacked. People still claim Gio's team that got to Europa League final was Gerrard's team, even though diff manager diff style n not a chance Gerrard beat half the teams we did on route.
Not a fan of McInnes, time will tell if successful but one things for sure us as a fan base have to get rid of the negativity and start backing our team to the max.

40% win rate isn't terrible, & better than other managers who had higher when sacked? He beat Celtic, but so did Clement that season. Would you bring in McCall or Murty back? Both were in charge for similar periods, with worse squads, & McCall had a similar record, whilst Murty did much better.

Dub Ferguson win percentage 33%.
Played 12, won 4, drew 4, lost four, conceded 20 plus goals.

Ferguson was rank rotten during his audition for the job.
The months previous, he spoke non-stop in interviews and podcasts how he would drop X, Y, Z player, change the formation etc if he was in charge.
And what did he do?
Played the same players and wondered why he got the same, if not worse, performances than those before him.
Let's not confuse Ferguson the player with Ferguson the manager.
