I find this hard to believe, £26M would represent about half of our total squad costs for 2025 across all teams. Just not sure how we'd be able to square that circle.

This is a steaming pile of Gladys Knight.
Seriously, how can anyone think this is true? The mind boggles!

What a load of! Yes, would love him at our club, but not at the price. 🇬🇧

Sunshine, no one said it was true. If your mind boggles, may I suggest you take two painkillers and go lie down in the dark. Stop being so condescending, we're all Rangers fans. 😶

Is this supposed to be serious?

Mince.

In today's football transfer world, transfer fees are divided by the number of years the player signed, for example, sign a player for 100M and give him a 5-year deal. With amortization, you divide it by 5 years, meaning each year you pay 20M. This reduces the financial burden on the club.
Chelsea have been doing this for the last couple of years. You then hopefully sell said player halfway through that contract for more and pay off his initial fee early. If there was to be any truth in said post, Moore on a 5yr contract would cost us £5.2M/season. Not so farfetched really.

We have 26m to spend. We missed a primary target or 5. Fear not we have over 4 weeks left to identify alternatives. In the mean time Dan Purdy would like to sell you the Kingston Bridge if your in the area.

Yes, it is possible, but as I explained in another thread, it is highly unlikely if the club wants to grow over the next few years.
The main issue is that amortisation costs, as you say, are carried over for every year of the contract, meaning every other transfer we complete during that period (and in the 4 year period past until it falls off the books) adds a portion of its fees into the annual total.
For instance, if we spent £40 million last year on four-year deals, then £10 million of that total is amortised into this year's budget. When you add the £5 million for Moore, an estimated £2 million in agent fees, and the player salaries, the financial pressure builds quickly.
Even if we calculate the salary on a £26 million player at a stupidly low estimate of just £30, 000 per week, that still adds up to £1.5 million per year.
This becomes dangerous when you look at our existing financial baseline from last year, where we had a turnover of £94 million, salaries at £58 million, and amortisation at £12.7 million.
To avoid falling foul of Financial Fair Play rules, we absolutely need to keep our total costs below 70% of our turnover. Adding all of these new costs, including the transfer fees and wages we have already committed to, means we would probably breach that 70% threshold.
To rectify that and still be able to buy players next year, the club would be forced to either increase turnover dramatically (how?) or drastically reduce costs elsewhere. So, yes, possible, but do you really see that happening. 🤷

Ss and others are right, nonsense.

It's not necessarily nonsense, though, is it? It would depend on the make up of the deal. Offsetting initial costs with more financial add ons over the duration of the contract. The problem we have is the constant rebuild of the team/squad.
Far too many players purchased each window. Quantity before Quality. Until we deal with that constant poor purchasing, then we'll never be able to buy fewer but buy bigger. Anyhow, nice wee story to stop us all screaming for Hjerto-Dhal and new wingers.

I give up as you are making a good enough job of it yourself. 🙈
