Great news on a Sunday morning.
Clarke falling on his sword after a dismal WC.
He's made great strides over the years getting the National team back to major tournaments.
But the actual tournaments themselves have been a disaster.
One you can accept.
But when it gets to 2 and 3 and underperforming then unfortunately your time is up.
Not really any outstanding candidates to replace him who are readily available.
Fingers crossed they go down the continuity route and appoint Naismith.
Which would also put to bed the earlier rumours he was coming to Ibrox.
In the words of Trainspotting - in a footballing sense only:-
It's SH$TE being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The **** of the Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shit into civilization. Some hate the English. I don't. They're just w$nkers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by w$nkers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete ar$eholes. It's a SH$TE state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any difference!

MPH, I agree re our performances at tournaments as I would rather go and play and lose handsomely than play as we did. However, his record at getting us to tournaments is better than more accomplished managers have managed. So, I hope we don't go back to not being able to qualify.
Needs someone with the courage to pick a team where they aren't shoe-horning two from same position into the team, and giving youth a chance so we get better for say a tournament from now.

Clarke has my thanks for getting us to 3 tournaments and some fantastic experiences along the way.
Unfortunately, his safety first approach once we qualified was not going to work against top quality opposition.
Not sure who will replace him.

Appreciate him getting us to the tournaments. I had a fantastic time in Germany (despite the performances on the field).
For whatever reason we couldn't take our form into the actual competitions.
Think it's the right decision to stand down but that's for getting us back in the game.
No idea who will take over, however.

I think Barry Ferguson be decent shout for the job even Naismith younger manager way newer tactical ideas only my opinion also see big Aussie Ange being touted. ?????

World Cup, we qualified on our own merit. The 2 Euros we made it because it was harder to fail to qualify.
World Cup, they made it easier to qualify from the groups, and yet we still couldn't do it. That is because our manager was a dinosaur when it came to tactics etc.

Think they will try for Alex Neil, but wouldn't surprise if somebody like Neil Lennon gets offered it.

Think not getting out of the groups may have had something to do with the 6th and 7th best teams in the world being in with us. As the 3rd team in the group, I don't think any others had as tough an ask.

Angus, if we lost handsomely, people would still be calling for manager's head, so it's a no win situation, mate. I didn't love everything about Clark, but at least we were qualifying under him, so a step in the right direction.
For those that think Clark leaving will make us any better are on to plums. No manager will go toe to toe in a World Cup with Brazil/Morocco with defenders like Hendry/Soutter/Hanley/ etc, imo it would be a disaster. We just aren't very good.

Looking at what was needed to go through, we would have probably needed a point from Morocco or Brazil to go through, and that was highly unlikely to happen. Iran got eliminated with a zero goal difference, so we just didn't miss out, we were 11th out of the 12 third placed teams.

BB4, I agree and also think on here his management ability is only half the argument tbh; his supposed support for Celtic is taken equally as much into account, sadly.
I hope the next one starts to replace the old guard with young lads who can grow together as a 'club' like team.
Sort of what Northern Ireland are trying to do. It will mean losing more before we start winning but then we should be set top for a few years to improve and start winning.
