Yes, very good press conference delivered by our new manager Derek McInnes, and he knows what's expected, and said repeatedly that he could say it all day long, but actions speak louder than words, and he and his coaching backroom team know what this job entails. ???

I agree, Parlane, and hope he is the one. But, as he said, every new Rangers manager until now has said exactly the same. He needs to now do it on the pitch, or, as he said, he will be out on his ear.
Notice he didn't answer the question on winning next season's title, but said he wanted to win it as soon as possible. Not sure he will get that sort of time from the fans if he doesn't.

It's a stupid question, Angus, and any journalist that asks such a question should be given peters from any manager.

Angus, if we see progress that could change them, hopefully it does, but if our owners see progress, it shouldn't matter our fans' opinions.

I agree, My star. ? Of course, we all want to win the league title in Derek McInnes's first season as our manager, but if, God forbid, he didn't, and we make progress as you say, he stays as our manager for me. ? I think he's a very good chance of winning the league title in his first season, absolutely I do, and let's get right behind Derek, his management team and our players and support what supporters are there to do.

Just words at the end of the day, guys, we've heard it many times over past 15 years. I am confident it's the right appointment, but let results speak for themselves.

Fans' opinions don't count? Odd statement since fans always determine whether a manager will make it or not.
Said many of the right things, but as BB4 pointed out, it's just words and we need to see the results. I'm no more confident after listening to him, but hopefully he proves me wrong.

It was great to hear that McInnes has the final say on signings. The manager not having the final say on signings over the last few years is a big part of the reason why we ended up with so many duds.
He also alluded to signing players with the correct mentality when he spoke about "having more under the hood than just ability".
Jim Gillespie also impressed.

Star, I hope that you are right in that owners pay less attention to the fans' opinions on when the manager is sacked. I agree with bbj that, until now, the fans have had the most say and perhaps it is time to stop that and the dog makes the decision from now on. For McInnes to still be here, if he doesn't win the league next year, we need that to be the case. It is time to give a manager more time and McInnes has more support than others have had, so let it be him.
None of this rubbish about if they see improvement because one bad result, a run of draws at the wrong time leads to fans saying they don't see it.
In fact, choosing the wrong team and making the wrong sub does that. So let the board decide when it is time for him to leave and I will be happier.
SWS, he did say we would but I was going by the q & a here, which was before the straight out question.
Q: Is it important - you know the demands as a player here at Ibrox when you played here - is the demand on yourself knowing full well that Rangers have got to win the title this season? Is that the pressure you'll put on yourself, because that's what many fans will expect?
DM: The intention is to win the title as quickly as possible.

Angus, we all know that eventually the fans will get their way. For me, I'm not 100% as he even stated in the presser that he has his style that he has developed at previous clubs and as we both know it isn't very pretty, so that, combined with a stretch of bad results, and we all know the fans will turn.
I would like to give him this full season and then judge next season when he has had time to implement what he wants properly.
