There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a Scottish connection at Rangers FC.
Just like there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting the best personal available in any capacity within the club.
We have 'foreign' owners.
We have a 'foreign' manager.
We have 'foreign' players.
We have 'foreign' back room staff.
As a club, and wanting to be the best in class, on and off the park, we should be appointing the best we can attract.
In the past we've had Baxter, Greig, Super Ally, Souness, Walter Smith etc.
Unfortunately the football landscape has changed.
It's why we have been fortunate to see players like Butcher, Gazza, Numan, Laudrup and Advocaat in the hot seat.
To want Scottish over 'foreign' at all costs just to protect an identity can be seen as xenophobic whether we choose to agree or disagree over the context.
We need a mixture of both Scottish and foreign. But not at the expense of quality throughout the club.

Good post MPH,
I'd say to want a bit of Scottish identity at a Scottish club isn't a bad thing. Either or find decent players from any walk of life who are hungry & want to fight the battle & be successful. Personally, I think a good team would be a mix of both.
Xenophobia would be saying I hate players from a certain place because they come from that place and I don't like them. I think most posters on here just want what's best for the club and want to see us winning things again.

Mrpotatohead, I don't care if they are Scottish tbf, but we should be signing players that know what it's like to play in the SPL imo.

100% agree mph baaaaaaha baaaaaha. ?

Rfc, same as me then, players that understand what our league is all about, nationality makes no difference to me, core of players understanding our league, I've wanted, Maswanhise, Lissah and Braga from our league, three foreign players, then buy the best quality foreign players we can afford.
09 May 2026 14:36:51
I get what you're saying about quality. Personally though, for instance, what current player right now will run through a brick wall for us? I can only name 1, and he's Scottish, and it's Barron. We have lost our identity. Honest answers only. If we lose tomorrow v that lot, do you think it will affect the foreign players? I say no, and the reason being there ain't enough Scottish Rangers men drumming it into them how important it is to win.
Look at the Barry Ferguson era. There were lots of foreigners, but we also had Scottish players in there, and the eagerness to win every game rubs off on the foreign players. That's what I believe is missing and has been for some time. When it ain't going well, there's core players in our team to know what it's like to play for Rangers, to give pesters to underperforming players on the park.

Xenophobia is the fear, dislike, or prejudice against people from other countries or cultures, often manifesting as hostility toward immigrants or outsiders. Rooted in the Greek words xenos (stranger) and phobos (fear), it involves an "us vs. them" mentality, promoting exclusion based on perceived differences in nationality, ethnicity, or customs.
Since some don't seem to understand what this word actually means.

I find all this chat nonsense tbh.
It's 100% ability and mentality over nationality. And players don't need to know the league. It's the same rules all over the world.
Give me 10 Gattuso's any day of the week.
I'm sure Celtic would be happy with 10 Maeda's and Hearts with 10 Braga's.
All players that won accolades in their first season.
Like I said, total nonsense.

I couldn't care less about wanting Scottish players or 'Rangers men'. I followed Rangers in the lower leagues when we had Ally McCoist, McDowell and Durrant here and all of them were totally incompetent. We had Scottish players throughout the team and none of them were good enough. We even signed guys who were candidates for Scotland's PFA POTY: Ian Black, Dean Shiels, Nicky Law, etc.
Sandaza, Kyle, Jon Daily, all did well in the top league but were utter garbage. Rangers fans like Andy Halliday were signed and again - Nowhere near good enough.
We had a saying back then - 'Sign SPFL garbage, become SPFL garbage'.

Zikos, yes, but not many leagues all over the world the same as ours though, players with experience of our league should be looked at, handfuls good enough.
09 May 2026 15:11:44
Ziko, I couldn't agree with you more. You bring people with the best ability here and hope they fall in love with the club. Larsson, Gazza, Laudrup, Albertz, and many more. Some of the best players I have ever seen at the Old Firm clubs were not from Scotland.
Signing Scottish based players just for the sake of it is mental. We've tried it not long ago, when McCoist was here. He even brought back Boyd and Miller, and still couldn't get us out of the Scottish Championship. Hopeless.
09 May 2026 15:24:36
Back to basics, win the league, then get flash rest of the word in.
09 May 2026 15:56:28
Butcher, Woods, Roberts, Gordon, Amoruso etc, all the Dutch boys, and none of them came with an inkling of what it meant to play for Rangers, but they sure as hell knew what it meant when they left. I'll guarantee none of the present lot will look back with fondness on their time here.
09 May 2026 15:56:30
I haven't seen any examples of xenophobia on here. A few pleas for an identity within the team that demonstrates a passion and work ethic that a number of our signings lack, but maybe I've missed something!
09 May 2026 16:18:14
Awg, a few people have missed it.
09 May 2026 16:51:40
I couldn't care less where players come from, as long as they bring with them courage, gusto, energy, and a loathing of losing. We've been fielding full teams of non-Scots since the 90s, and they were some of the best teams we ever had. It's not a Scottish presence we need as such, but a Rangers presence.
The one thing that is killing our club is the negativity that seems to have seeped into the very fabric of Ibrox, and I hoped that this would be the first thing the new owners would set their minds to. I'm sure they know positivity is the taxi towards success, and will take cognisance of this in the near future.

Tremendous post, MPH.
Finally someone posts that actually shows 100% why we're not anti foreign. ????
Can't argue with facts. ??
Well done. ?
09 May 2026 19:01:41
The stuff I thought you were leaving the crap alone now? Also, what MPH has posted doesn't prove anything about what you said earlier. Yes, the club don't care, but some fans do. ?
09 May 2026 19:48:07
Trouble is, Storm, I don't and never have done.
A lot of my favourite players have been foreign.
But a few Scottish players within the squad are always nice to have, ones that know the league and have heart and desire to hopefully rub off on the rest.
