I see the media as quoting "police Scotland are furious that the Old Firm have been silent about Sunday's game, are they kidding, the Old Firm pay them huge sums of money to police their games yet they stood by and watched as Celtic fans trashed Ibrox and invade the pitch, same foes for the stewards, they done little to stop green brigade idiots without tickets force a door open and flood into the ground. They can't say they didn't see it as you could clearly see the faces of the idiots that trashed the seats and advertising boards as they spilt onto the park.

And why are the media wording it as if its Rangers fans that are the instigator, yes they shouldn't have entered the pitch but Celtic fans were first to invade, they also trashed the blue gates outside how did the police miss that as well. Absolute farce but again Celtic expertly playing the victim card again. I even heard 1 Celtic fan when prompted about the abhorant 66 graffiti say that Celtic fans were badly affected by what happened that day just as much as Rangers fans were, how does the victim card get played for that.

Police Scotland pre-match: We've no issue with Celtic getting the full Broomloan.
Police Scotland post-match: 7,500 is too large an away fan base to police.
WTF!

They are correct that both boards should not be quiet.

Tims are definitely some of the craziest people in the world.
They amaze me most days.

12 Mar 2026 14:17:37
There should have been pre-match warnings from the clubs and Police for fans to behave.
Why did Celtic sell tickets to GB?

12 Mar 2026 14:30:17
Robbie, I'm afraid, if Police Scotland says the games are not going ahead for safety concerns, they are not getting played.

12 Mar 2026 14:35:50
The police match commander pronounced that she was happy with the police operation, then later she said that they could no longer handle that amount of away fans at the games. Both statements contradict each other.

All they had to do was make that second statement when they were asked about policing the game, and Rangers would have had a valid reason to say to the SFA, we can't do 20%, and all of this would be avoided.

There is shame on both clubs for fan behaviour.

But, it seems clear to me Police Scotland failed miserably in their responsibility for security of the match. Their reaction, once it all went wrong, was good, and they did get a grip quite quickly; however, they stood by, letting it get out of hand in the first place.

They not only let many fans down, those who were not involved, but they also failed the stewards who were on the front line in trying to manage this, where the police should have been.

They can blame the clubs all they want, but the police are ultimately responsible for safety at major events, and no one can say they were successful in doing that, imo.

12 Mar 2026 14:32:46
all the media i have read or seen is blatantly blaming Rangers and Rangers fans

Its delusional

But i'm not surprised.

Celtic and their fans base have always being victims.

Celtic obviously have people in high places protecting them and its about time they go dealt with accordingly.

It is a long time ago now, but do you remember when we won lots of league titles, lots of cup finals.there was a complete circle of police and stewards around the ground at the end of the game approached to avoid celebrations spilling on to the pitch. Why the change?

Also, it appears to me that the league big wigs aren't that bothered about fans spilling on to the pitch as we have seen for a few years, especially with a certain support, and especially at Kilmarnock. No-one came out to condemn the actions of their right back jumping in to the crowd and inciting the spillover. So is it any wonder that we saw what we saw last week? In fact, would there have been any outcry this time if all the Rangers support has stayed in their seats? This is not to condone the actions of part of our support but to highlight how one team has been given carte blanche to do what they want with impunity.

That their players and staff when approaching their support almost encouraged the reaction clearly didn't help. There has been an increase in hostility in this fixture in recent years due to the increase on the 'ultras' attached to each club. So surely more care rather than less should be taken by authorities? Unfortunately, as a result of what has happened, it is highly likely that a retaliatory action will be taken when we visit their place in the coming weeks. Easily avoided if the vast majority, if not all, the 2500 allocated goes to supporters not affiliated with the UBs.

I think they are doing the right thing, for them being quiet; the first one to put out a statement will be ganged up on by the other two. I'd like to see Rangers and Celtic team up against the SFA on this, as they forced the issue, but it won't happen.

Tommy I agree that they could have responded more quickly but started to wonder what their role was at a football matcha s I assumed they were in charge.

I found this

so from that it appears that the club is in charge of security at the ground and is responsible for safety and crowd management where necessary. the club has a safety officer who is in charge of the event/match, and the stewards are the front line it seems so they reacted first. it seems that police don't react unless there is criminality.

the police have an event policing lead who will take control of the event, from the Safety Officer, if any major incident or serious disorder occurs. so the Celtic fans coming on wasn't that and only when the Rangers fans responded would Police take control; hence the delay.

so Police don't do what, I at least, thought they would do at a football match. they are there to support and only react when it kicks off as it eventually did on Saturday.

Good info, Angus. That does explain their bullish response post match. That did not make sense to me at all, but your post gives it better context. Cheers.

12 Mar 2026 18:54:10
Tommy, I didn't understand what they did at all either. So we could do without the cost of them, or reduce it, if fans could just behave. It has cost us £1.6M over the last 3 years because of the constant likelihood of misbehaviour.

Most of the time, it is a waste of cash, but we can't not spend it given the example of Sunday. Not huge amounts, but if we could halve it, we could spend more on players.
