I see the Celtic defence is getting credit for their performance on Sunday, ill bet they thought it was a easy shift for them. How many aimless balls did we chip in that not only made it easy for their keeper to collect or their CBs to head clear.
Chermiti 8 mil, Nadari 4.5 mil, Olson 8 mil to buy, this is on DR where was the tactics to play through them.

You just shot down your own argument. Their 3 plus wonder kid Moore hardly created anything, and missed the few chances they did create, notably big-game Youssef. It's not the manager's fault when these players cannot beat the first man with crosses from dead balls and open play. Skov Olsen is rightly taking stick for one horrendous corner, but Moore had been on most of the corners since Tav was dropped, and he struggles to get the ball into the box.
Last week, we scored two goals, but it was the manager's fault that guys like Souttar and Sterling couldn't defend properly. We dominated possession and made a few chances. The system worked, but the players are just not good enough.

Biggest travesty was Scales at LB booked early (22mins), and no real attempts to go past him after that and get a second yellow for the hammer thrower - an area where we fell down on imo. ?

The point I was trying to make was: what was DR's game plan? We have no runners from midfield, wingers who, maybe apart from Moore, don't dribble, and they just punt high crosses, which were food and drink for Scales and Trusty. What was DR working on all week.

Wsl, the system didn't work as we got put out. BT is right, all we did was chuck in aimless balls hoping someone gets on the end of it. Delivery was rotten.

Our final ball has been worse than useless in recent games. We dominate possession, spend loads of time in the final third, yet can't create decent opportunities.
Our squad looks good on paper, but we frequently fail to kill off the opposition. Even in winning games, we usually spend the final ten minutes trying to see the game out.
Change the mindset - we need winners.

Calseyside, I agree. We get ahead and try to sit on that lead, which is probably why we have drawn so many. We have been the same for years now, so I don't think it is tactics but that mindset.
So, just a question to anyone on manager's tactics: if we have no wingers who can dribble past players nor MF who can run beyond the last man, how can he play a style which requires them?
So, does he set up the 4-2-2-2 to keep it narrow, be better against counter-attacks and press high, as that is also the squad he has who can play that way? With that formation, the width is provided by FBs, I understand, but we don't play Tav, who can provide that width (but is poor defensively).
We seemed to be better as well with Meghome at providing that width on left, IMO, or so it seemed (although I like Rommens as a player and think he will do that).
So, he plays the style for the squad he has, possibly. I am hoping EHL can give some insight into it. ?

Rommens is twice the player Meghoma is.
4-2-2-2 isn't working either, and it's the manager's tactics that's been the problem the last 7 games. We have won 2 of them. ?

I always prefer 3 midfielders in Scotland. A 433 is best.

Stormtrooper, the system did work. Following last week's second-half collapse, we dominated the whole game, plus extra time, and we gave up zero chances. We made opportunities to get lots of balls into the box. It's not the manager's fault that Moore, Skov Olsen, Sterling and others couldn't cross a decent ball, or that the runs into the box were poor. Even then, Chermiti had two good chances to score, Raskin had one cleared off the line, and Fernandez had a header blocked from going in by Djiga.
Without thinking too hard, there's 4 good chances that, if the players had managed to finish, just one would have got us a win, just like sitters missed in previous games against Celtic, Motherwell and Livingston, which have cost us 6 points. These players don't have the quality to batter teams and make chance after chance, and they have shown all season that they don't have the quality to finish the sitters we do create.
11 Mar 2026 22:01:59
Correct, Wsl. I don't entirely agree they don't have the quality, but I would agree that they aren't showing it. I still think the mentality is weak, and that is the main problem. Most have shown quality at other clubs, and, you know, they say form is temporary and class is forever.
?
Stevie, only issue with 3 in the middle is we need to play 2 up top to get the best from those we have. ?
11 Mar 2026 22:16:15
It didn't work, Wsl. We drew one game and got out of the cup in the other, so 2 games, no wins. It didn't work. If it worked, we would have won both games. ?
11 Mar 2026 22:17:35
Stevie, I agree the 4222, 442, whatever it is, doesn't work for me. 2 wins in 7 also.
2 wins in 7, Stevie, how many games have we played with that system in them? I can't remember. I know we didn't in one of them for sure.
12 Mar 2026 00:15:28
Angus, I don't necessarily agree that we need to play those 2 up too; I think either can play up top themselves. If anything, Miovski might need a partner. I don't agree with that theory that we need to play 2 up too, though.
Storm, I'm not sure on that, bro, as far as I can tell we've been doing this 222 thing for a while now.
Ehl pointed out it's a fluid system, and perhaps what's happening is when we're playing well the 4222 is what we see, and when we're not playing well it looks a different formation.
For me, a mf 3 is best: one 6 sitting and 2 8s, with one of which is more attack-minded and one is box to box.
12 Mar 2026 08:07:27
I'd have three cm's myself, Stevie, number six that can control the game, a couple of eight's that bring goals.
12 Mar 2026 10:12:52
It's getting harder to find these goal scoring centre mids nowadays, mate. I dunno where they've all gone. Celtic found one in Nygren.
We had one in Cameron, but whatever happened to him, that's over.
I'd like us to make a move for Lennon Miller in the summer anyway. He'd be one of my 8s as he can do everything.
