With 9 subs I'd like at least 1 academy boy on the bench every game getting first team match day experience and if the games already won then put him on the park. Think this would definitely help future prospects to stay with us or sign with us.

I was advocting pretty similar on my former site. It really annoys me when our squad has been bloated with mediocre foreign players.
Even early rounds of the Cups against lower league opposition should be used to blood youth players.
The demand to win Glasgow hampers youth players in getting opportunities!

Bhoy - a Glasgow hamper? What's in it - caramel wafers, Mars bars, Irn Bru, Tennants, tablet?

Agreed bhoy it's a travesty but that's the old firm, sorry derby ? ? and it's fans. No player gets time here, what chance have the youth got unless they're a 1 in a million exceptional talent.

Once we start giving teams proper hidings under Rohl I think he is the sort of guy to do something like this.

You can see why your team does not blood youth bhoy as many of your fans go ballistic if not winning - look at how successful you have been over last 12 years and as soon as there is a challenge the fans moan about everything or protest against board manager whoever - you will have some heavy wages and spent a load on 2 wingers CB CM ST in last year mums brining in tierney but it's never enough for your fans - very spoilt and entitled fan base.

Bhoy88,you seem to be/come across as a fair minded Celtic supporter and i have Celtic supporting good pals of mine who are similar and give and take the banter accordingly, just like i do myself ? What's your overall view on how you think the race for the league title will go, if you don't mind me asking ?I've always said whoever has the best january transfer window with their new signings settling fast, will go on to lift the premiership league title ?Hand on heart, i also think that if we finish above celtic, we'll be league champions and that's not at all being disrespectful to hearts, it's just my honest opinion ?.

Its not just a Glasgow thing. When the game kicked off the other night there were no scottish players in the Rangers team and no Romanian players in the ludogrets team. Not advocating going back to the 3 foreigners rule but maybe a tweak of a 3 players from the country tgat the team is from might help.
24 Jan 2026 07:42:51
Jfm they aren't Romanian they are from Bulgaria mate they had one Bulgarian playing in starting line up.

I think Rohl is looking to reduce the first team squad to c22 players, with the academy adding a rolling 6-8 players throughout the season.
Very similar structure to what Koppen was proposing.
For context we would probably need to reduce these squad by 6-8 to achieve this.

Cheers storm i couldn't be bothered checking so early this morning. Tried to do it from memory.

I think having that many academy players in the squad would be a great way forward although ti could still end up with them sitting on the bench.
said for ages that giving them minutes though when we are miles ahead would result in them playing twice per season. if they are good enough to be on the bench then they should be good enough to play and trust.
Curtis came on the right at 1-0 and helped us keep it that way. player learns more from that than a passing game to each other when we are 4-0 up. it isn't just about minutes it is about giving them the right sort of minutes to develop them. so throw them on every game and give them sub minutes. if we aren't willing to do that they won't develop.

EHL our squad is 30 now after Dowell moving on, 6 loans 7 out of contact and Cifuentes, probably reduced to around 18/19 in the summer, couple of signing this window, shouldn't be hard him having a squad of 22/24 players in the summer.
24 Jan 2026 12:17:11
MyStar, our first team squad ( all registered players who do not qualify for U19's) is substantially larger than that - and if you look at the number of minutes those loan players and OOC players contribute, it will take a hell of a lot of work to get our squad to 22.

Curtis has been on the bench all season but now people would rather see him out on loan. Lawson was on the bench in the cup game and the manager said he would like to have included Scally and Glasgow. If Rangers put out a team full of youngsters against the likes of Annan and didn't win the fans would go mad.
Now that there are 9 subs named I don't see why we couldn't reinstate the two youngsters rule that used to be place.
24 Jan 2026 14:38:22
agree wsl, but I think if the two youngsters are there to tick a box, don't play or get a few minutes then I would rather they went on loan and improved that way. to then return and make starts or be sold to make money.
