35 year old Leon Balogun who was released by the club a year ago. Is this really the best player we can get? We just got rid of the old guard, in the name of change and freshening things up, then we go out and bring another old boy back in. Really demoralising and a big step backwards.

I can only hope players get sold and an actual CB or real quality comes in very soon. We cannot go into next season with this group of defenders.

Have to agree last season we had to rely on Sands and lunny at times and balogun is an honest big guy but he's injured more often than not and for me it's a signing that's the cheap option and blocks the way for a younger player.

Ipswich offered Arsenal £3 million for Auston Trusty this morning - we offered £2 million 10 days ago - as i said previously here Stan Kroenke said first to offer £4.5 million upfront gets the boy I heard today Kroenke really wants £4 million one off payment and he will sell - John27 Trusty is worth the 4 in my opinion - i think we should go for it before someone else does - Arsenal are in talks with West Ham to sell Balogun to them - Arsenal want £50 million West Ham have offered £30 million - so the Declan Rice money is not as much of an outlay as before and Kroenke willing to take the 4 for Trusty.

As someone else said we played games last season with midfielders at CH and when king came in he wasn’t ready which obviously Mayo isn’t either. Massive season ahead but let’s throw the kids in. As I said in the banter thread, what if it's to allow us to spend more on the starting CB, as we needed 2 in any case?

If we were looking at Panzo and Trusty but couldn't afford both (as trusty fee higher than we want) plus struggle to keep both happy, what if signing Balogun is so we only need 1 more and can go higher on the one we want, knowing Balogun will be happy as a backup?

Could be miles off, but in isolation it seems an odd signing. If part of a larger plan to bring in Trusty (or a/ n/ other starter) then makes more sense, especially as CB's rarely change (if fit) .

Ed - i can assure you that this is one of Stans numbers not Josh - Stan owns Trusty and Arsenal that is 100 % the decision is his not his sons - his son does not run Arsenal - he may front it but Stan controls Arsenal and Josh Kroenke.

I’d happily pay the £4m for trusty by all reports and account he’s a bargain even at that. Danny Wilson raves about him.
He sounds a class act. Poty at Birmingham.
Look at ccv at Celtic he’s been outstanding so if we can get his partner for national team in for £4m we’re doing well.
We need to offer the money and ask arsenal to wait til we sell someone. Central defender is the next must sign position more than Danilo cifuentes etc we need to get a first choice ch in rapid.

Orange you have to admit it's not a good look going back for a 35 year old released by qpr for a position we desperately need strengthened we've spent on fees around 8m having lost 4 of our biggest earners and if you believe reports need to sell before we add so whilst we may not be skint as the poster said we don't have the money for the rebuild many agree we need. A ch a cm another forward needed is there money available to go get those if there is why sign LB even as cover so we need to wait and see.

We don’t need any centre forwards we’re too heavy
We need to offload Matondo wright Colak sakala and possinly roofe and bring in just one centre forward.
Cifuentes is as good as done
This means we are 2 centre backs short of a first team squad.
Trusty and panzo are the only names we’re hearing so it’s more a case of offloading the attacking players we don’t need to facilitate the defenders now.

Oh yes Ed I forgot to mention that Arsenal were the only sporting team owned by Stan Kroenke not to win a title last season so I doubt that Stan and his £15 billion needs to raise collateral from Arsenal to buy a ranch or anything else - its a very similar scenario to when it was rumoured that Sir John Hall stood down and his son Douglas ran Newcastle - complete garbage - every decision went through Sir John before giving the nod to his son - 100% same as Kroenke Senior and Junior.

Don't get the Balogun negativity, its not like he's our marquee summer signing. A quality International who knows the staff and club, and loves the club. He'll train well, support others and step up if needed. For 3k a week, worth it in my mind.
