Trouble is that if we buy first, then other clubs know that we have to sell, and we may not get what we want for our existing player, and will hold out to get our player at a lower price. (reverse)
The key thing is that we have a massive squad, so we can't risk more scenarios like Davies/Dowell and others where we can't get rid of and soak up the wages budget and ultimately go for free.
Just an opinion, but I'd rather see some outgoings asap and have to accept that we may miss out on some targets if we don't get them out the door.

Clubs already know who we are trying to punt and who we want to keep. Agents do their job and us buying won't matter. Raskin getting injured in the WC, on the other hand, would throw all our activity upside down.
