I've read Hull are in for Dan Neil and the most accurate source for a club I've saw anywhere Ex WHU is saying West Ham are interested. I can't see him knocking back either of those offers for the SPFL and significantly more money.

10 Jun 2026 15:38:55
Iron, significantly more money?

He maybe wants a taste of European football. He's getting none of that with either of them, or maybe enjoys winning. Hull won't get much of that either.

10 Jun 2026 15:44:35
Not overly bothered if Dan Neil comes or doesn't tbh.

10 Jun 2026 15:45:21
I can see West Ham really struggling to sign players now.

10 Jun 2026 16:47:36
Significantly more money at West Ham? Are you serious? They need to knock a fortune off their wage bill, even with a good chunk already going down to 50% cuts. Or is it 1 season in EPL with Hull, or a chance to win trophies and play in Europe?
Some people underestimate the pull of Rangers, and also, if a certain team make a big effort to get a player, that can often be the deciding factor.

Just look at John McGinn, boyhood Celtic fan, who went to A Villa in Championship because they showed a desire to get him and pay what Hibs valued him at.

10 Jun 2026 17:33:55
Fifty, respectfully, I know more about West Ham than you. The £150 million is to make up a shortfall, if the owner, who's worth 10 billion dollars, doesn't want to cover the shortfall. Many top earners will be sold. They'll be fine, they're anything but poor!

And yes, 100% significantly more money than Rangers. As a Rangers man born and bred, we're a huge attraction in our opinion, but if you're getting offered 60k plus a week to play in the Premier League and you're English with no affiliation to Rangers, you're likely taking it.

Just like Lewis Ferguson who Rangers daft, if he gets offered 50-60k a week, maybe more, and a 4 yr deal that's millions more, he'll take it. Modern day players with the money in today's game are mercenaries.

10 Jun 2026 17:52:52
Dan Neil reportedly on £7.5k, so if WH wanted him and are willing to pay even £20-30k, then they can have him, as we should be learning from our past mistakes and not making the same ones over and over of paying inflated wages.

If he came at low wages and succeeded then different.

That was Koppen's plan, buy low, pay lower wages and make profits. Still seems relevant, and surely DN doubling his wages to £15k should be sufficient incentive.

10 Jun 2026 18:03:59
Iron, that all comes down to where they play, but West Ham is a mess right now.
Niel ain't looking for 3m a year, maybe he'd choose Rangers over West Ham, he's just won back to back Championships, plus the fact of European football.

10 Jun 2026 18:14:42
And Hull in the Premier League? I mean he's been binned off twice after his sides got promoted, you think he'd maybe take that offer and have his season in the PL?

Listen, we've just finished 3rd and have won what? 3 trophies in what 14 yrs? SPFL is a 3rd tier domestic competition.

I understand the pull thing, mate, but there is that much money in football now, these players will go where they can earn the most.

They have no affinity to Rangers. The Rangers I grew up with is not the Rangers they've grown up with over the last 14 yrs.

Night and day. We're not the pull we were due to the last 14 years of absolute mediocre rubbish. I won't be convinced otherwise. We need a period of dominance and soon.

10 Jun 2026 18:38:03
Iron, Rangers were in England. After a few years we'd be challenging. West Ham will never do that.

10 Jun 2026 18:48:06
Iron, Only because Rangers haven't got the money for buying half a dozen English internationals like the times you're remembering.

10 Jun 2026 19:11:53
My star and Rangers will never b in England.

One league win in fourteen.

10 Jun 2026 19:24:26
My Star, you're entitled to your opinion, but you're miles off IMO. A couple of years and challenging? For the PL? Mate, seriously, there would be no automatic entry to the PL, and I'm not convinced we'd be challenging in the Championship after a few yrs.

Being a big Club in Scotland doesn't translate to challenging in the PL after a few yrs. There are big Clubs in London with bigger crowds and revenue who can't do it. We can't even challenge past March for the SPFL.

10 Jun 2026 19:27:12
John, I'm talking about the difference in money.

10 Jun 2026 19:29:25
Celtic haven't got the money either, My Star, or Hearts last yr, or Aberdeen when they finished above us ??‍♂️, but Celtic dominate us. So what's the reason? And in a couple of years we'd be challenging in England with Arsenal, City, Utd, Liverpool, Villa, Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle and many others who have been banking the money for yrs? Not a chance.

If you could survive for 2 seasons and then climb year on year and grow, maybe in a decade if you get everything right.

10 Jun 2026 19:32:15
We need to choose our markets carefully. Recently, to an outsider, we've won one league in 14yrs, been poor in Europe the last 2yrs and came 3rd in what is widely regarded as a 2 horse race. Rangers is a big pull to us Rangers fans. I'm not convinced we're seen as such outside Scotland. We've tried to win titles in first tier Scottish football by signing average players from second tier English football.

That hasn't worked, so we need to find a better way: more Scottish signings who actually want to play for our club, and also young foreigners who see us as a stepping stone to the English Premier League if they perform well consistently.

10 Jun 2026 19:35:24
Iron, agreed, would be more than a few, but it would happen, same with that lot.

10 Jun 2026 19:53:52
Seems a bit strange that Coventry and Hull are being linked with Neil when he was at the other promoted team, Ipswich, who chose not to keep him even on a free. Not surprised that West Ham are after him though, he will be right in their price range.

If he chooses these clubs over us so be it, he would be a decent signing but if not we move on. I'm more upset on missing out on Andersen to be honest.

10 Jun 2026 19:59:39
You're absolutely right, Iron!

10 Jun 2026 20:08:53
West Ham in the Championship can offer a lot more than Rangers.

10 Jun 2026 21:07:45
My star, some people seem to think Rangers r bigger than they actually are.

10 Jun 2026 21:14:24
"There's always a bigger ?." ?

10 Jun 2026 21:42:11
Agree, John. We're a massive club in Scotland, John. In wider football, in our eyes, we're a massive club as well, or to most Rangers fans we are, but the reality is we're 2nd best in a 2 horse race in a 3rd rate domestic competition.

We've got a grand history domestically, but the last 14 years we've been a shambles. In Europe we're more miss than hit, and that's unfortunately the truth, until we start winning regularly domestically in Scotland, I try to avoid the we'd be this in England and the we're a big attraction talk.

English football from the PL to League 2 is ridiculously competitive. Let's just get back to
winning silverware in Scotland every year and become the main attraction here again.

10 Jun 2026 23:03:34
Alloa, we were poor in Europe this season, but last we finished 8th & got put out of Bilbao. You can say we signed average players for the 2nd tier of English & failed to win the league, but remember Aribo came from the 3rd, Bassey from Leicester, Balogan from Wigan, Goldson & Tav. Our better players have come from there.

If it's West Ham, then I can see why Neil chose them over us, but Hull, I wouldn't understand, as I don't think they'll challenge for the playoffs next season again & their owner could explode any progress at any time.

Celtic & Rangers would struggle to get out of the Championship as it's more competitive & teams down there are starting to throw money about too.

11 Jun 2026 01:48:07
DJB, how are Hull going to be challenging for play offs? They are in Premier League.

11 Jun 2026 09:26:51
I agree, Iron, that if both Rangers and Celtic got down to England, and even allowing for the size of institutions these two clubs are, it would absolutely take at least 5 years to consolidate in the big league, even with the sponsorship money both clubs would have like they get in England. ? I also agree with you regarding if both Rangers and Celtic went down into the English Championship, as that's a very hard league with many teams that can win that league, and it would absolutely also take time for both to find their feet and consolidate in that league. ? I'll finish off this post with this poser to one and all on this site, ie.

if Rangers and Celtic did get into the English Premier League, and with the money that comes with sponsorship and everything else, and obviously after a period of time, would Rangers and Celtic, as the institutions as they are, become bigger than most clubs in the English Premier League. I definitely would say absolutely, and for me in name and in size of the clubs they are with worldwide support I think, given a good period of time, only Manchester United would remain a bigger club than both Rangers and Celtic, and that's my honest opinion and I've said this in many a debate before. ? Thoughts, guys. ?

11 Jun 2026 09:44:51
Walter, we're miles off United globally, you're right, but Liverpool are streets ahead of us and have a massive global fan base, Arsenal the same, especially in Africa. After 5 to 10 years I very much doubt we'd surpass either of them. They'll continue to be successful and will not lose fans, as success attracts fans, and they're not going anywhere, anytime soon.

We'd be on par with Villa, Spurs, Chelsea, City and a few others. City, under Pep for the last decade, have dominated in large English football, and they're not close to United and Liverpool. Those 2 are up there with Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. Then you have the rest.

11 Jun 2026 10:39:57
Footballers follow the money. You can't say he is better off at Rangers because at least he can win things because we don't win much anymore. We finished third last season.
