From what I'm reading, it won't be Watt and Neil. It will be one or the other.
Not my preference, as I think we'd need 2, unless Rohl plans on working with Barron to be the back up 6, whilst giving Rice chances if he signs on, which I doubt he will.
Realistically I'd like both Watt and Neil, but if it's only 1 of them I'd be hoping we spend on a more cultured or talented option for the 6 in the mould of a Silas Andersen, since he's away to Sporting.

Comparing their stats to our players stats from last season, Dan Neill and Elliot Watt are better as number 6s. I'd prefer both as well tbh.

That said, I think it's about profiles in mf next year. We have to turn the squad and get a range of players who play specific positions.
I played at all levels of the game, but I knew my role was a 'spoiler' (not sure if that even exists now), but I knew my job was to win the ball, stop (normally the biggest threat in the opposition team) and pass to a team-mate who was far more gifted than me.
No one in my dressing room was ever confused with what my role was. I wonder if there are a number scratching their heads in Rangers dressing room with Dio, Raskin, Chucky and Barron.

Chukwuani isn't a holding midfielder.
He's similar to Raskin, much better as an 8 who snarles into tackles and is a ball winner.
Neil, Watt, Rice, Chukwuani.

Was told by a friend last night that Askou wants Watt and Maswanhise at Toulouse, but it was the same friend who told me we were interested in Calum Ward. ? Personally, I'd be happy with Watt or Neil, think both could do a job for us.

Bearsbear, I'd say a 'spoiler' is maybe still a thing. Connor Barron, Cammy Devlin, Graeme Shinnie all spring to mind. ? Maybe I'm wrong with my assessment of them but that's what I see them as.

No way is Chukwuani a holding midfielder, or definitive No. 6. He is better used further upfield as an 8, winning the ball higher up and being creative.
Dan Neil is the one I think would drastically improve the balance in our midfield - that is what is missing at the moment.
We sign players, then shoehorn them into the team.
Get Neil in midfield, he will make the rest play better in their respective roles.

Ehl, do you think having Dan Neil or Elliot Watt as the sitter and Chuk as the presser/box to box in the Red Bull/Rohl 4-2-2-2 would be a complimentary pairing with Shankland dropping into that 10 position on defense and Chermiti/Naderi running the channels similar to what Braga done for Hearts?
